Glovebox swap out..
« on: December 18, 2009, 08:04:00 pm »
Having to change my glovebox in the GTi for a new one, due to a fairly nasty old nokia phone holder bolted to it... any tips before I go for it?

airbag swich - am i right in saying this can be opperated with any VW key? if so I wont need to swap that as the new one has one fitted already

glovebox lock - how the hell do I go about changing this over from my old to the new (the new one already has a lock in it but no key)

Good luck with install - I have same situation but looking for a glove box in decent nick (with silver banding) - unless I can use the silver off my current one?

How much did you pay for your glove box? - there seems to be lots of varying prices on eBay

all changed over now... bit fiddly but not to bad to be honest... the pipe for the air cooled glove box was a pain in the ass.. kept popping off and its not very long so no real room for movement... but its all on and working now.. All for £25 and gets rid of the out dated plastic phone holder bolted to the side :happy2:

oh and LEAN - yes your silver banding just pops off and pops on the replacement box

On a side note.. anyone know if the orginal VW hands free kits go for much money? or shall I bin?
