Edition 30 Prices remain steady

I have access to a firm of motor engineers through work so asked for the latest Glass' guide price on mine and the retail price was just over £10k (high spec, only 56k on the clock)

The engineer said "wow" in terms of depreciation as the book price is only a few hundred less than last year.

Good to know they remain sought after

It's the way it goes for Golf special editions. 

I had a VR6 and the highline version always fetched a big premium.

Same for the mk4 Gti.  I sold my 2000 year for £940 the other week.  A 25th anni are for sale for 2-3k in similar condition albeit a few years younger.

yeah i remmeber the 25th anni would hold its price well a few years ago. used to go for like 5-6+ on a 02 plate

It's not the same for R32s they can be had for very cheap now

Some folks  are really taking the pee with prices. 12k for cars that don't even look tidy. People jumping on the bandwagon.

Mk5 or Mkiv? I think the tax bands killed the mk5 R32, whereas mkiv - yes, there's some very dodgy ones out there, but cherished examples still command quite a premium for the age of car.

It seems a strange market to me, some cars have been for sale for nearly a year at dealers.
The consequence of this is some private sellers offer at the same price and assume it will sell due to rarity?

I have been on the look out for a car to keep, but many cars are nowhere near as good as the seller thinks and so many cars seem to need cambelt, waterpump, dv and air con sorting, which gives the impression they have not been that well looked after.
Thankfully I am in no rush and the air cooled Porsche and property portfolios have kept me in the game for an ED30 when a nice one appears!  :smiley:

Yes they hold their money well Ed30's, Ofcourse as mentioned not all the higher priced cars are in good enough cosmetic or mechanical condition to warrant the price they are advertised for.

One owners idea of mint condition drastically varies from anothers.

Fully loaded - think it has pretty much every option?  Including RNS510, cruise control, winter pack, lux pack, xenons, sunroof, reverse parking sensors.
Full VW service history.
Excellent condition.  No kerbed alloys etc. 
I've always tried to run it on Tesco 99 fuel or V-Power.  4 x Goodyear Eagle F1s.  Had cambelt and water pump changed last year (as it was due to age) and has had the DSG service.
Completely standard.  Ready to go - no problems or faults.

It's even got one year to go on an extended VW warranty so if I could transfer it I'd throw that in too...
I've not seen another like it with the spec/condition and mileage for the age...

Jamie, slightly higher mileage than yours, but this really nice example seemed to take a while to sell offered at £10,495.

I am only interested in a manual myself, so I didn't look at this one.

I can only assume it didn't sell above the asking price?

I have seen a few cars offered around the £10k mark only to see them re-appear with the dealer mark up to sit in the traders "museum" for months...... These cars do seem to be mileage sensitive, there should be a premium for lower miles, but  these cars don't quite have collector status to justify too high a premium as yet.
