06 Black GTI
« on: September 29, 2015, 10:12:06 am »
Hello all,

Recently purchased a 2006 GTI in black, my wife previously had a graphite blue GTI in DSG that we loved so when it came to getting a car for work i decided on one again.

2006 06
Black
109k Full VW SH
Auto lights and wipers
Highline clocks
Cloth seats

All in all it was in good clean condition with a comprehensive service history all for under £4k.

I already have a VW money pit (below) so was planning on keeping it standard but done a few bits already.

As with all new purchases a good clean and polish was in order first. I swear by Autofinesse stuff so it was cleaned and topped with their ultra glaze and illusion wax.

next thing was to replace the bulbs all round, 6000k xenon upfront with matching sidelights, LEDs to the inside and rear number plate.

Also replaced the tatty roof aerial and the shredded rear wiper.

This is the only part of the car that indicates its mileage, and i know its a weak spot as it was the same on our last GTI. At the moment im getting quotes for a proper repair but in the meantime ive patched back together as best as my sowing skills would allow.

I then had a decent delivery....

this was the car before fitting

and this was after

made a huge difference to the look and the overall drive, seems to be smoother if anything than the standard springs.

I also decided to change the rear discs and pads at the same time as fitting the springs. total nightmare as one of the calipers wouldnt wind back, had to soak it overnight with freeway before it would turn.

that near enough brings me up to date other than I have purchased these genuine BBS CH for a bargain price....

My only concern is they are 17's, so may have to sell them on and use the profit to fund 18's.

Thanks for looking.

So ive run the car for a few days now since the H&R's were fitted, heres a few pics including a decent comparison of the before and after ride height.

So the BBS CH turned up.....

Like I said I wasnt 100% convinced before they came, as I think the CH look quite small in 18" form on the ED30.

they are genuine 17x7.5 BBS, with two good continental tyres and two average budgets, kerbing to all wheels.
If anyone is interested in buying them/swapping them let me know.

Cars currently back on the Monza's while i work out what to do.

Heres a selection of pics.

So in recent news this has happened!

Which despite throwing the sensor as faulty would appear by the noise and sound to be the rear bearing....

So ordered a pair of oem spec bearings, thought it best to do both at the same time.

Will be fitting them on saturday, already have my 6ft power bar at the ready.

And heres a pic of the car still awaiting a decent set of wheels.....

Love the Mk2 buddy! Some good early progress already Gibbo! Under 4k looks to be a good purchase too.

I am in need of a bolster repair like yourself so will keep a keen eye on this to see who you use and what the repair looks like.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks mate, most people prefer the mk2.  :sad1:

I had a quote for a full bolster repair from a company in Cardiff but it was £130.

Will get around to it eventually but have other priorities at the moment

No im not on there, I used mk2vr6 when i was doing the conversion and now i browse Edition38 to see what the rich kids are up to.

After making the common mistake of purchasing the incorrect size rear wheel bearings, they are now changed. They are 30mm not 32mm as listed........

Cars also booked into VW next week for an assessment as I have the dreaded rust on the front wings and O/S sill.

Had my old GTI done through the same dealer so im hoping its as pain-free as last time

Been to VW about the rust and its a no go... Cars been painted in the past. 180 microns in places.

So ive organised getting it sorted myself...not ideal.

Wheels on hold till the new year! lol
