Tappys 50 shades of grey
« on: January 01, 2016, 03:40:05 pm »
We'll I have been on here a while now and thought I'd start a build thread as I have a little time on my hands, not too much going on just so I can keep up with any progress I make  :signLOL:

So here it was when I bought it.

So as I have said before on other posts that I work in a bodyshop we had a customers car in for some work I decided to get the center part of my engine cover painted.

I had to wrap the vw badge though as I mullered it getting it off and managed to straighten it out but meant to get one of those sorted out.  :signLOL:

At this point I was having issues with it, we'll it just kind of felt sluggish and not as pokey as when I first got it and decided to get a newsouth boost gauge from awesome gti and installed it that weekend.

I found I was only getting 7psi of boost so reading up on here I decided together a new DV and spend a weekend sorting a few bits out.

So I ended up buying a DV+ from amd,a new pcv, gasket and pipe, cam follower and spark plugs.

So work commenced

Then onto the DV which as you can see is in a bit of a state.

Now I started getting 10-12 psi and it felt better than when I first got the car. :driver:

We had a polo come into work which got written off so I managed to nab the aerial

So I fixed a friends wife's motorbike so in return he made me a bentley style key for the golf FOC

A friend of mine works for ridgeway in Newbury and he told me about the rust warranty so thought I would take it down to be looked at, they said they would do the wings for me and blend the doors butttt when I went to pick it up I was really disappointed as the colour didn't match the bonnet and the bloke who done the work scratched both headlights but luckily I had taken pictures of it when I dropped it off as I was told that it was already like it which it wasn't.

So here's the colour but I cant find the pics of the lights before I took it in there.

So because I moaned they said they would paint the bonnet for me in the new year so took it back. It had a slightish dish in the bonnet where previous owner pushed on it to close it down so I got it repaired at work and they agreed to paint over the repair.

Then it was time to get it into work and get it colour coded, wheel refurbs, and the grill smothed.
Sorry about the c#*p phone pics lol
Stripped

I decided I wanted to have the slots I the side skirts smoothed

Then some prep and paint  :happy2:

So I went and got the inside painter black

And the faces got done in silver ( don't have a lacquered pic for some reason)

So we painted the whole lower part of the bumper black masked up and done the grey.

And this is it all done

The old center caps were corroded and looking naff so I got some off fleabay

I then changed the fuel filter and poured out what looked like water

We had an R32 come in at work which got written off so I had the rear lights

I got myself a erisin head unit as it looked like oem and was cheap enough,
It's not a bad unit for the price but the sound output isn't as good as original and the radio signal is  but I have a booster to put on there but cba at the moment to take it back out.

So that's it for now and that took ages to do  :signLOL:

Not really because of my job I get some good discount on parts from tps and Euroasian (I think that's the company lol)
For all the body work that was done only set me back £120 as I only had to pay for paint and materials

Looking great after the work done so far, I like what you've done with the wheels to with silver faces and black barrels if thats the right term... Always complaining about the paintwork on mine, would love a full respray or even front end respray but then i still wouldn't be happy with the bottled or the roof as around where the aerial would be, there are 2-3 very slight dings and a small spec of paint missing in one spot.

Keep up the good work :happy2:

Thank you. Yeah a full respray would be good but it can be expensive and time consuming.
You can always get a small repair done on the roof or get a dent man on the job as they can be quite cheap.

Small update.
I'm not to keen on the textured boot handle the bit inside the rear badge) so I decided to have it painted gloss black.

So I managed to get a spare badge from a job I did about a month ago to use while I did this.

Hers a few prep pics

And painted

And fitted

Cheers mate. I only paid £120 for both bumpers,4 wheels, side skirts and grill.
And just had the badge backing done for free :P
But that's because I work in a bodyshop so that's why it's cheap  :signLOL:

Ha, yeah I guess that does make a difference. Where abouts are you based? I really want to get this done on mine and like the look of your work.

Yeah it does :signLOL: I'm based in reading but any decent bodyshop can do the same as what I've had done  :happy2:
