VW Fixed Price Servicing Cost Has Increased!
« on: February 09, 2016, 04:42:44 pm »
A major service at the stealers is now £329, (was £299) minor service is now £159 (was £149).  Still exactly the same things are checked/replaced as before.

Yep, minor is oil and filter change, plus pollen filter if required.
Major is the above plus spark plugs and air filter if required.  Both have safety checks though I think the major is more thorough where they remove wheels to check brakes etc and adjust tension of drive belt.

I was about to book a major service too so that's £30 wasted!

Pollen filter would be at extra cost?.

Drive belts are tensioner driven so I think that doesn't need adjusting.

Brakes checks are wheels off front and rear inner and outer discs check, although this is also done on a minor one less the wheels off as that's what I do in profession.
All cars are health - safety checked because if you have an accident and it's proven something like the brakes were at fault then you can sue the company for negligence.

Always check skoda/seat pricing and use as a reference. My main dealer are more than happy to barter!

I'm just about to book wife's Leon in at VW cross hills near me, but it due minor service, MOT, cam belt/water pump, & the abs repair kit. Shocked by how much the cam belt is now £459!!!

Call me cynical but I'm sure the wheels aren't removed to check the brakes at the dealers - its probably too time consuming. They just peer through the spokes of the wheels.

The ED30 has had 2 major services at the dealers and the wheels were never removed. Not an issue as i go to an indy and the wheels are removed to inspect the brakes.

I'd personally use an independent. I don't trust the VW dealers around West Yorkshire.

Depends on who doing the checking and what company it is as some techs do like to save time which equals bonuses.

If you can clearly see the brakes then I'd say it's okay not to but some rear pads are difficult to see even from behind so wheels do have to come off.

I would happily recommend VW white rose crosshills. Great service and reception each time I go in, even did jury service with one of the master techs.

They often best price on any of the specialists local to me!

I don't think so, it isn't worded like that on the website. The "if required" part is a bit vague though, how do they decide if you need a new one, same with air filter and spark plugs? How would the average person even know if they had been changed, a lot of it is trust.

Ask for the old plugs back so you can inspect them, I do it with them and cam follower each time.

VW state plugs every 60k, nargh, just get mine changed each major service.

Ford recommend plugs and air filter every two years.
