Horrible massive old aerial:

Nice new stubby aerial:

May replace it with a shark fin one at some point but this will do for now.

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Had some time off and a gorgeous day here today so took the time to do a few bits on the golf.

First up was clean the exhaust tips as they were filthy! I used Tcut with a microfiber cloth to remove most of it then used 00 grade fine wire wool with Tcut to get off the stubborn stuff that was left. Then went over them with Mothers mag&Ali polish, wiped down with Gtechniq panel wipe and coated with Gtechniq C1 to make them super easy to keep clean. There's a bit of pitting on the surface but other than that they came up pretty good. Couple of before/during/after photos:

Replaced the old rusty boot struts. They looked terrible, only cost something like £12 for the new pair and took two minutes to change. Boot opens so easily now so the old ones were definitely not working right.

Some before and after pictures:

Once I had changed them I removed the old garage sticker from the back window, it left the usual sticky edge so used a little Auto finesse obliTARate to remove it then gave the glass a clean:

Removed Tax disc holder, same procedure with tar/glue remover to remove the residue then cleaned the glass:

Then thought the rear number plate was looking pretty bad so gave it a wipe over with the tar remover while I had a rag with some on and it came up pretty good too:

Boot liner was delivered today too, not sure I'm 100% happy with it fit wise but hopefully it'll settle out now it's not wrapped up in the packaging:

Much better. Glad to get lots of little bits done today, hopefully get some more interesting updates soon =)

Cheers,

Chris

Changed over indicators for smoked ones which I think look much neater.

Before:

After:

I think it looks much neater now, they were a bit fiddly but fairly easy to change, was quite dirty inside so was a good chance to clean out the insides.

On the lookout for some genuine GTI headlights with the black inserts too. Not sure about the replica style ones on ebay if they'd be any good so think I'll hold out for some genuine ones. There were a pair for sale on here about a week ago but I didn't have enough posts to post on the thread or PM the seller and they're sold so will keep my eyes peeled.

Looks good mate, how did you do it? Did you buy smoked ones or DIY, hard to swap?

Thanks very much to both of you  :happy2:

I bought smoked ones from ebay.

I followed the instructions in this video:

and it was fairly easy. One of the clips on the old indicator broke as I removed the top cover as you can see in the picture with the old and new ones side by side but not too bothered. Was going to keep them as spares so have kept the other one but just dumped the one with the broken clip.

Yeah, I'll keep a look out for the ones with black inserts as I think they'd look much nicer than the standard silver ones.

Good work. I have the same boot liner and it doesn't take long to settle down. Tho I have now had to trim it down on one side to fit around my custom sub box.

Sorry it was me who bought the headlights. I'm changing back to them as I much prefer them to the Depo xenon reps.

Haha, no worries, I won't hold it against you  :drinking:

I'm sure more will come up again soon. Plenty replica ones on ebay but as I said not sure they'd be good enough quality/fit etc.

Yeah, boot liner seems to have settled out a bit now, at the end of the day it doesn't need to be perfect, just helps stop the boot getting filthy, so easy to remove, scrub with APC and a brush then hose off. Much easier then trying to get stuff out of the boot carpet.

Mine had replica GTI headlights fitted when I bought it, they weren't very good quality

The depo's are ok but I'm not keen on HID kits therefore reverting back to genuine GTI headlights and some good bulbs.

Plus I prefer the darker look of them  :happy2:

Yeah, think they'll look much smarter than the silver ones in mine. What bulbs you going for?

New lot of goodies arrived today!

K&N panel filter, cherry red hazard switch, LED interior lights and GT seat adjustment inserts.

Should hopefully get this all fitted over the next few days depending on the weather.

Cheers,

Chris
