Golf Mk5 GTI 05 Plate
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:57:38 pm »
New to the forum, hello all.

Recently bought a 05 GTi in Black Magic Pearl. Looked and looked and looked and settled with this one. Mega amount of spec which sealed the deal in fairness.
Booked in for a Cambelt and water pump in 2 weeks as they are due.

Spec wise:

Xenons
MFD2
Cream leather interior
Electric sunroof, electric folding mirrors, auto lights etc
6 speed manual
Multifunction flat bottomed steering wheel
Highline computer
Climate control
Heated seats.
Brand new Eagle F1 tyres all round.

One of the best examples I could find and very happy with it. Got full service history but is there anything in particular to look out for?

@peter_booker2003 "cream leather interior" I think your cream has gone off!  :signLOL:

Nice spec! Love the black, beeatch to keep clean though! The cheap mk6 window switches make a nice difference and you may find yours worn. Also, new grab handle covers make a massive difference to how "new" the interior feels, though not sure if yours are black or beige.

Whatever your mod budget, you'll enjoy the car I'm sure. A thing to look out for is the rust on the front wings (top of the arch), front sills (around where the front wing meets the sill, also check with the door open) and rust around the rear badge.

Welcome mate, good to see another black gti being loved.

I agree with stupot on the quick win interior mods that make the car feel like new, I had the rust spots on the front wings which I managed to get done under warranty at the stealers.

Get some poor boys black hole glaze polish and nattys paste for the paint, it makes the car look like a mirror finish.

Check out my build thread for some subtle ideas on mods.

Thanks for the replies both. My mistake on the interior colour

Wings have both been done under the Warranty back in 2012 so are spot on and the boot all seems well.

I'll invest in some of the wax as heard nothing but good reviews.

I don't dislike that interior actually! Mine's the standard grey leather, and if I'm honest it's a bit drab. They should have made it black.

You'll have no choice in becoming a skilled detailer with it being black.. but when they're clean they look stunning.

Poor Boys Natty Wax and Black hole ordered. Along with a 5L bottle of Auto Finesse Avalanche.

Also spotted a 5L bottle of Auto Finesses Iron out forĀ£17 on Amazon. I ordered this too but have since been refunded. Must have been a pricing error as that is mentally cheap.

Thanks for the kind comments. The interior has grown on me. Makes it feel nice and light in the daytime and the footwell lights look brilliant in the dark.

Invest in some applicator pads and microfibre clothes to. Pad to apply and cloth to buff. Comes up like a mirror.

Microfibres are a godsend. They make it all so much easier and quicker.

Have been using Maguairs Carnauba wax on it so have got loads of microfibres cloths.

Ordered some Applicator pads with the wax so should be perfect.

Best way to wash? Snowfoam, black hole and then Wax?

If you've got time it's worth claying it. Wash, clay, rinse (or wash again), polish, wax.

You'll quickly see where things need more work once you've got it bulled up. It's the little scratches that you can hardly see that's holding mine back. Needs a good machine polish. Mine's Tornado Red, and it's quite noticeable to my eye, so black is going to be even harder work!

I use the 2 bucket (with grit guard) system, towel dry, poor boys, then nattys, C4 on the plastics every 6 months or autoglym number care on the back bumper and side skirts every wash, aerospace 303 on the grill (I like mine stock). Rim wax on the wheels because they are diamond cut and it protects from white worm, finish off with a bit of tyre silk and maguires metal polish on the exhaust tips.

Then a cruise past the biggest shop window you can find  :signLOL:

Service wise, depending on mileage, you might want to have a look at.....

1) Cam follower
2) Diverter valve
3) PCV assembly

Don't get a fright! None of these items are expensive and all of them are easy to fit DIY. I've done them all and I'm a complete numpty :ashamed:

And your car might not even need any of them. Just do a bit of searching around on those topics and you'll figure out if any of them need doing :happy2:

Best of luck with it. Lovely looking car  :driver:
