Can owners of the RCD330G+ please confirm if the fm station names are displayed on screen or is it just the frequency?

Thanks

Guess I'm gonna need to wait a bit till more people get this unit imported to find out which optical parking sensors and reversing cameras are compatible with the RCD330 Plus.

Most seem to come with an adapter for reversing cameras which suggests any are compatible?

I am still getting battery drain with my stereo so going to change it I wouldn't advise any aftermarket item from AliExpress to be used on the MK5 Golf GTI, I know this through experience. I have found this information useful on battery drain:

So, why will an after-market head unit drain a battery?

After-market head units are dual sourced, this means they require two +12v feeds and an earth in order to power. One of the +12v sources will be a direct battery feed, so it's reading +12v at all times. This is known as the battery backup. It's what essentially keeps the memory of the head unit. The other +12v feed will only come on when the keys are turned onto accessories, hence this wire is called "ACC". This means the +12v feed for this is only coming on with the ignition.

Battery drain will happen if there is more than +12v source being received into the head unit when the keys are off. Remember there should only be one +12v source, the battery wire, when the keys are out. If there are any other cables receiving +12v when the keys are out, then this is why you are suffering from battery drain.

It is physically impossible for the head unit to produce it's own +12v feed. So, it will be an installation based issue.

My fitter has said it's the head unit that is draining the battery?

OK, if someone says that, then they should be able to back this up with what cable and why. If they cannot, then they are simply making a guess. Any decent auto-electrician or audio specialist will be able to diagnose battery drain with the wire responsible and why it is causing the drain. Once they do that, they should be able to easily put it right.

So what could be causing the battery drain?

On a head units power loom, you will have the following power connections:

YELLOW Wire: +12v BATTERY (Constant)

RED Wire: +12v ACC (ignition based only)

ORANGE Wire: +12v ILLUMINATION (ignition based only)

BLUE Wire:  +12v REMOTE AERIAL AMP (ignition based only)

BLACK Wire: Ground Earth

You see that only one wire should be +12v at all times. So if any of the other wires (red, orange or blue) are receiving a constant +12v feed then that is going to be the reason why you are suffering from battery drain. All you need is a multi-meter and you can test all of these wires. You would easily identify which cable is receiving the the wrong feed.

How to resolve?

If one of the wires which should be ignition based are reading as a constant feed then all you have to do is move the wire to an ignition based feed. Simple.

But the stereo I purchased from you was listed as being plug and play?

Yes, our vehicle specific head units are plug and play but most of them are able to simply adjust between canbus and non-canbus applications. It's important that you have yours set up correct for your vehicle. Incorrectly setting them up may connect the ACC cable and give you that unwanted second +12v constant connection, which will cause battery drain.

But did you resolve this issue? Instead of chopping and changing wires why not just get the correct canbus module?

Got my 330G Plus and have fitted it, I am getting an error when trying to turn on the bluetooth it says "To use Bluetooth please switch on the ignition"

Anyone got any pointers?

Do I need the updated CanBus gateway to enable the bluetooth?

Thanks

Bumping this thread as I'm interested in putting the 330g plus in my car but there seems to be some issues with it.
Has anyone installed one with success?

I have installed a rcd 330 g plus in a Passat fsi 2006, it works fine ( excepts CarPlay ).

The only think after the taking off the key start blinking the light of HU this is needed change of can bus gateway or use of a can bus stimulate ?

My GTI came with one of the newer horrible cheap pioneer units installed (the mechless, touch screen ones they sell in halfords for £170 quid).

Sound was terrible and looked really out of place.

Found the Pioneer AVIC F3210 on Ebay. Not as flash as the latest devices, but has touch screen, bluetooth, full postcode sat nav and ipod integration. Better still the plastics are designed to match VW, so looks OEM.

Also works with the mfsw no problem at all, didn't have to do any recoding & all quadlock wiring harness for VW included so very easy 10 minute install.

I only paid £150 for mine on Ebay. Sound quality is much better as was originally a £900 stereo, aerial reception very good & no battery drain.

Worth looking into if you want decent sound, a good looking sat nav unit but don't want to spend much.

Hahaha - are you on the wind-up?? What the absolute f*ck is that monster of a stereo?! Looks like something out of the 90s, and I'd rather put pins in my eyes than be faced with that every time I'm behind the wheel. It would be sacrilege to put that anywhere near an Ed30 let alone a Golf. Does it take cassettes?
