Wiper Delete
« on: January 18, 2017, 06:43:29 pm »
Evening all. I'm just getting round to a few aesthetic mods and I'm toying with the idea of deleting the rear wiper. I remember it being quite simple on the old mk4 (apart from getting the wiper off... hacksaw fixed the seized bolt) so is it the same case on the mk5? Anyone had any issues?

The blank I used before was a black glass one from gecleant, fixed in place with clear silicone. Are these still the ones to get?

Feel free to post pics!

Indeed they are still the ones to get.
Pretty simple job like you said. Need to blank off the hose though.

Yep, I put a screw tight in the end of the washer hose on the mk4. I'll get one ordered. Cheers

one of my favourite small mods to my mk5 was the rear wiper delete handy done but as you say seized bolts call for the hacksaw as that was my only option I got mine on eBay £18 If I remember right comes with black sachet of sealer and seals it great :) if I find the link I will post it mate

I take it the absence of a rear wiper isn't an MOT issue?  Is it one of those if it's not fitted, they can't test it, so can't fail it things?

Didn't have an issue regarding when I had my MOT

Mmm, I was wondering what I could do with my rear wiper as I really don't like the exposed bolt.

I like the look of this though!

What glass sealant are people using?

MOT is simple: If it's there it has to work, if it's not there, it cannot be tested or failed

The kit I posted comes with black silicone which does the job fine

Genuine Question for those who have done the rear wiper delete.... how the hell do you see out of the rear window when its chucking it down or when it gets covered in general crap and dirt??

You get used to it. It's like driving a van, but easier. And a bit quicker

Also it's a good idea to treat the glass with a repellant. Rain X used to be well regarded but I think there's a G Techniq product that does a better job.

My rear window has a coat of normal body wax (Fusso Soft) which works better and lasts longer than Rain-X. The G Techniq product is silly money.

I do wash my car every couple of weeks though and do limited mileage which helps too

I don't think it's quite that B&W.

I'll try that. Got some Autoglym HD Wax.
