Anyone tried the VWR "Cup Edition" alloy wishbone set?
« on: April 17, 2017, 10:35:28 am »
Hey.
As the tittle says... Anyone tried out the VWR ‘Cup Edition’ Front Suspension Upgrade Kit with the alloy wishbone and stuff?
(VWR45G5COMP)

Also read that some changed to the Audi TT or the Audi S3 ones - Maybe that's cheaper?
- Couldn't really get if it was a direct fit or the TT ones need some drilling of some kind and the S3 ones is a direct fit..

Any inputs will be great since I'm doing mine a the nearest future :)

It looks rather like the Superpro lca kit though I would be interested to hear whether there are any differences.

You mean the £540 wishbone, console bush, and ball joint kit from Awesome?

No need to spend that kind of money:

Passat B6 alloy wishbones, tenner each on ebay.
Passat B6 ball joints, £46 each from VW.
WALK or S3 console bushes. £150 ish.

Job done.

Optionally you can add Passat B6 alloy hubs as well for £20 each from ebay.

Every time I get a p/n off the internet, it's always wrong at the dealer, or VW have changed it, so best bet is to do an ebay search mate.  You defo don't want to be buying them brand new.  Crazy money.

Yep they are the fellas  :happy2:

All B6 Passats basically have MK5 Golf suspension, but the Passat being more premium than the Golf, it got Ally arms and hubs instead of steel/iron.

8P S3 got exactly the same alloy parts also, but they get a huge scene tax applied to them.

Yeah they can be a bugger to get off, so most sellers leave them on!

No worries!

I believe so yes.  I ordered a random pair of B6 hubs from a 2007 random Passat on the bay, and the 55mm VWR spring/damper kit I bought for a MK5 Golf bolted straight in  :happy2:

Ahh.... Thanks @Pudding I'll try search some B6 Passat ones from eBay.

I guess they ones I'll find would be full or old dirt - Got any recommendations on how to clean them up the best way? Since I really don't like putting some fresh bushed and joints to some old dirty wishbone  :booty:

I got a LHD mk5 , should I be on the lookout due to LHD or RHD restrictions?

Have a look at vapour blasting that should get a dirty set cleaned up like new.

I didn't bother cleaning my wishbones but I put the alloy hubs in the dishwasher!  Came up great  :happy2:

You'll need to check, but I think they are the same both sides. You just turn them over. That was the case on my wife's Beetle anyway.
