Thanks for the kind comments all. The sunroof wasnt something that sold the car to me but its so nice to have it.

Had a good weekend with the car (my weekend is Sunday/Monday). Was meant to head down to Early Edition yesterday but my mate bailed on me last minute, so instead i went for a solo drive into the Peak District. In hindsight, i wish i had headed down solo to EE instead but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Drove the Cat and Fiddle a couple of times and the car was just faultless. The mixture of the tight roads and the DSG in Manual mode was just fantastic. Thoroughly enjoying the car. Have got a couple of days off at the end of the month and i'm tempted to head away for a couple of days. Maybe head to the Lake District but open to suggestions on this? Would be travelling from the North Midlands.

Today, being Monday meant the car went into my local VW Specialist. Thermostat, Cam Chain, Tensioner and a couple of other bits sorted. They also did the oil change for me and used the Millars and filter that i had purchased. Only charged me £20 labour for this so was happy with that.

The car is definitely quieter on startup and no rattle at all. Gave it some beans on the way home and it just makes me laugh  :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

Anyway, couple of little bits will be sorted in due course and then i will be looking to save a bit of money. Then things like the alloys will be refurbished, front bumper resprayed etc.

Few photos from the trip out to the Peaks yesterday.

Cheers mate. This is my 5th car since passing in July 2015, and my first 5 door. It's just easier to get things in and out. I also think the 5 door versions with a 20/30mm drop on them look the bee's knee's. Just my opinion ofc.

A looked after and regularly polished 5 door stands out more i think because they're generally not looked after like the 3dr's are, I saw a blue r32 5 door and I was in love with it dropped on air but it was something else

Completely agree. Those blue 5dr R32's are just stunning.

So a bit of an update.

Not much has changed since i bought the car. I've done a few service items as a previous post and fitted a few things to make it my own. I've also now given it a really good detail and a couple of coats of Poorboys Natty Wax which means cleaning it has been a doddle. I've just ordered the steering wheel adapters and a rear view camera for the App Radio so these will be fitted over the coming weeks too. I've also got a set of discs and pads to go on the front. Gone for Pagid as these are OEM quality and what i was running on the black GTI and were great.

Had this last week off so have done a fair few miles. In 2 weeks ive done 998 miles. This includes 2 trips to wales and a trip to the Peak District in the last week alone. I left home at 2am to go and climb Mount Snowdon last Friday and the empty welsh roads at that time of day were brilliant. A mixture of the DSG in manual mode and the great handling car made it great fun. I also have to admit how stunning it was climbing Snowdon and getting to the top as the sun rose. Was a fantastic morning.

I'm also looking to do a long weekend in Scotland in the next month or two. This would be travelling up after work on a Saturday and heading to Inverness. Then driving the NC500 and then driving back a couple of days later. Can anyone give me any pointers for decent roads in southern Scotland/Lake District?

Will try and get a couple of photos up at some point.  :happy2:

Not much has been going on with the ED30 in the past couples of weeks apart from sticking in lots of V Power. Since buying it in mid april ive done over 2000 miles already  :happy2:

I also gave the car a good wash today. I spent a bit of time tidying up the front end which included touching in some small stone chips, along with tidying up the Votex Splitter. I will get the front end resprayed at some stage. I also spent some time re-blackening the grilles as they had started to go grey. Look much better now.

Loving the car more than ever and just enjoying driving it day to day.  :happy2:

So. Droplinks and front pads and discs replaced today. Droplinks have made a massive difference. Car now feels much tighter and no knocking from the front end. Again superb service from the guys at Midland VW. Would recommend to anyone who is midlands based.

Also discovered how good the car drives in the dry with the traction turned off. Completely different car. I have also sold the Revo intake that i had fitted. I will only be going to Stage 1 max and miss the DSG noises when changing gear so have decided to put the stock engine cover back on. Will look at a VR Panel Filter to help things flow better in the future.

Next will be the cambelt and water pump. I've got insurance next month so that will be sorted first though.

Managed to get a few bits sorted on the car this afternoon after work.

Fitted a new headlight bulb to the DEPO projectors i've got. This hasn't fixed my issue with the LH bulb not working all the time though. Will check the wiring and report back.
I also fitted a new carbon activated pollen filter and a new air filter into the engine cover. The pollen filter was full of rubbish so well worth the change.
Also fitted some new wheel centre caps to freshen up the wheels. They look much better now.

The car has also had a decent clean. Fully decontaminated, followed by snow foam and a 2 bucket wash. This was followed by a coat of sealant, and then followed 30 mins later by a coat of wax. Looking much better now.

All good with the car at the moment. Few bits i want sorting but just doing bits as and when i can afford really. Have attached a few photos for your viewing.

Cheers!

So, all was well until...

Driving home on Wednesday and all of a sudden, car goes into limp mode. Stopped and restarted and all is well until i hit 3k revs. Straight into limp mode again. No warning lights, but no power. Limp it home and plug in VCDS. Overboosting is the problem.

Dropped it off at the garage on Thursday morning for them to have a look. I was fearing it may be turbo and a bill into the £1000's. They found that between 3-4k revs it was overboosting. On one run, they recorded it peaking at 24psi. They found that the turbo wasn't the problem but were looking towards the map that was on the car being the problem instead.

As they are a REVO dealer they flashed it back to stock and then tried again. Still, the car was throwing limp mode and no power. Next was a smoke test and where they found the problem. When the stock exhaust had been refitted just before i bought the car, one of the hoses hadn't been put back correctly.

This was replaced and fixed correctly, along with a new REV G DV as i had asked them to replace the Rev D that was on the car.

Test driven and spot on. Collected the car today, and although it is slightly down on usual power, it drives much better. All in all £105, which for what they have done is superb. I was expecting £250-£300. Driven home and brimmed with premium fuel and will see how she goes. All well on the 20 mile drive home.

Would definitely recommend Jody and the guys at Midand VW in Cannock. Superb work, along with great knowledge and great prices.

So i headed to Vagtuner with a mate last Sunday. Was one of the first there so saw 95% of the cars arrive. Some right monsters, including Alex Kerr's Octavia VRS which is running 470bhp. Was a little bit stunned at the size of the brakes on that thing too.

Was great to see so many R32's but ED30's were really lacking form what i saw. Did see a couple of Mk6R's which i absolutely love along with an ED35.

Nothing much to note with the car. Has been running fine since i had the bits sorted a couple of weeks back. Having a Sub Frame Spacer Kit fitted on Monday to try and stop the creaking/knocking i have on the front end. Seems its best to try this first for about £20 rather than going the whole hog with top mounts etc. Insurance has rendered my bank balance useless so the mods will have to wait for the time being. Planning a trip up to Scotland in September for a road trip. Very much looking forward to this.

Have attached a couple of photos from last Sunday. The ED30 wasn't in bad company in the afternoon.  :happy2: :happy2:
