Mk5 GTI Pirelli Build/Progress Thread
« on: April 30, 2017, 06:31:57 pm »
Hi all,

I've recently bought a pirelli edition GTI. It's a 58 plate, 6 speed manual in reflex silver. I'm going to use this thread to document everything I do to the car from servicing to mods.

Someone p/x'd it at work (I work at a VW dealership) and I had to have it.
Being a member of staff I got it for an absolute steal.

Here's a picture of it in the car park at work before I bought it.

And the inside

It had full main dealer history up to 2013 and then was looked after by a VW specialist. It's been well cared for and only had 55,555 on the clock when I picked it up.

The first weekend in my ownership I gave it an oil change service and a pollen filter. Didn't bother changing the plugs as they were only changed about 4K miles ago and when I came to replace the air filter I found an aftermarket filter already in place.

When I got it home I gave it a little TLC.

I love how shiny the Milltek comes up! Also noticed that the front bumper is plagued with stone chips. It could really do with a full paint decontamination but I just don't have the time at the moment.

So after about 2 weeks of me owning the car, someone clipped the back wheel while it was parked up and I was at work.

As you can imagine I was not happy!

Here it is parked on the road with the mrs's car while we were waiting for the drive to be finished.

And here they are on the finished drive!

Still haven't managed to convince the mrs that she needs a VAG car (I've only been trying for the last 4 years...)

I got one of the guys from work to replace the cambelt and water pump for me. (I can do some stuff, but that's a bit out of my skill set haha)

Gave it some more loving last weekend (23/04/2017)

Then this weekend I finally swapped over my private plate.

And I had to get a quick pic of the beading from the rain

That's just about everything I can think of to date. I'll post the full spec a bit later on.

Thanks man. I gave just over 6k for it so I felt a little bit like I'd stolen it haha.

That's a great car - don't think I've ever seen a Pirelli edition on the road.
I test drove a 5-dr manual Pirelli before my ED30 - drove very well, but one of the door locks was screwed - not what you'd expect on a main dealer forecourt car. Or maybe so! I can't believe the price you paid for your car - amazing!
Look forward to hearing more in future!

It was the first one I've seen on the road too. I'm really happy with how it drives.
It's funny you should say that because mine has a passenger door lock fault which I need to sort before it fails completely. I priced up the part from work the other day and even at cost price it still costs more than my cambelt kit and water pump, something like £128.

Apart from that there's a broken coil spring which I need to sort out and then I can move on to mods rather than maintenance!

Really nice! Looking forward to the updates

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Got my new mats today courtesy of @rickster

They look so much better than the ones I had before.

Takes those mats in it  :happy2:  ever thought of painting the grab handles yellow either side of the gearknob?

Hadn't thought of that no. Not sure it'd be to my taste.
I did see another Pirelli at early edition last weekend which had been fully trimmed in alcantara to match the seat inserts though, which I thought was awesome
