Engine won't rev past 4000rpm
« on: July 17, 2017, 05:49:44 pm »
Hi I'm needing help with my mk6 golf gti.. If I'm driving my car in 3rd gear past 4000rpm I get engine workshop fault then it comes up saying maximum revs 4000rpm and the epc light stays on. I can't rev past 4000rpm in any gears but if I turn my car off and back on it clears the fault until it gets revved past 4000 again. i then plugged the car in to diagnostics and got '005707 - oil pressure switch'. So then I took it to a Volkswagen specialist. They checked the engine pressures replaced the two engine pressure switches and still couldn't find the fault. Its not losing any oil either so I was wondering if anyone on here could help me out it would be much appreciated.

You need to get the oil pressure checked manually at a garage to ensure you actually have oil pressure....  If you do have oil pressure, get it in a live diagnostic like VCDS and view the data/reading being provided by the sensor

Does the mk6 have an oil pickup pipe?

If the pressure switches are replaced but it's still not working then maybe something mechanical is blocking it from taking in enough oil i.e. pickup pipe

I've had the pressures checked and they've said that they were okay and it has also been on a diagnostic at the gargage and it's just coming up with the oil pressure switch which has been changed. As for the oil pickup pipe I'm not to sure but it sounds like a good place to start. I'll have a look this weekend and see what I can find any other suggestions whilst I'll be tinkering around would be appreciated.

VCDS scan the entire system first

Check/replace oil pressure switch

Check/replace oil level sensor

Check/replace oil pickup pipe

Drop sump and look for burnt oil residue while you're at the pickup pipe.
