Pre-Map Preparation
« on: July 25, 2017, 02:56:32 pm »
I am getting my car mapped on the 11th August and I was wondering what preparation I need to do in advance, I have done an oil change to 5W40 already on Saturday and the Cam Follower was changed about 3/4 months ago. Any thing important I need to do before I get it mapped? Ta

EDIT: Only going for a custom map would be around stage 1ish map at Badger5 (Have had good feedback from friends about this place)

You can do the dip stick removal test. Personally I don't think it actually is a good indicator.

PCV is cheap, replace it for peace of mind!

Full tank of V power!

Pre-cat delete, not a must but R Tech asked me if mine was removed before I went Stage 1 with them

Plugs if they're old, MAF if it's old, boost pipe bayonet O rings if they're old and leaking etc etc

You should get a good map from Mr Brockbank..... he's been in the game a long time!

Well, sorry to be a grumpy old fart, but the first thing I would do would be a search of this website.......then come back with your questions, once you've had a bit of a read-around?

Here's one I found in about 5 seconds.

Does no one search any more?

Got the Pre Cat Delete already, bought the car over a year ago an decided to check if it was there or not couple months ago and well it wasn't. Nearest Shell V Garage and Tesco Momentum are both 25/30 mins away so don't fancy that when I need petrol locally would be pointless doing a 50-60 min round trip for that. Whats next best, theres BP Super Unleaded, Sainsburys Super Unleaded and Esso super unleaded by me what would be best?

Those 3 are only 97 RON, so you'll be timing limited.

Speak to Bill about that ^ OP.

If it's mapped on 97 you'll be fine running it on BP Ultimate etc.

I had no choice but to use 97 once to get me home (R-Tech map, so needs 99) and it was noticeable.

Re: Pre-Map Preparation - Maps to RON
« Reply #12 on: July 31, 2017, 07:45:02 pm »
I seem to spend a relatively large amount of time where there are no Shell supplies ( > 17 miles from home), Tesco much easier tho.
One of the reasons that I chose an APR map is that it has 4 "settings" (including standard & Valet - albeit valet parking not an issue that I face in my life!) these modes are readily switchable using the cruise control stalk and a PIN code.
I can also choose to switch down from "Max Power"/99 RON back to standard, allowing me to operate safely in areas where the higher RON fuel is not available.
However, I am finding that this is becoming less of a problem as time goes on; you can usually find either Tesco or Shell on, or fairly close to motorways in most places. I have mostly been running on Tesco Super ("Momentum Plus"?) as it's quite a bit cheaper, and much more readily available. No issues at stage 2 n a bit with Lobba HPFP.

I am not getting drawn into the "who's the best map" debate - just sticking to practicalities for a daily Driver.

A tune for 95 unleaded vs 99 is only about 20hp down at Stage 1 levels, perhaps a bit more at higher boost pressures.

Anyway, I've been using Tesco 99 more and more lately as it's 20p a litre cheaper than V Power where I live.   I never understood how petrol companies could get away with charging more for the same thing, depending on region, but they have ~20 years left and they're gone, and good riddance.

I was gonna use Esso Super Unleaded which is 97 I believe, if I had either a Shell V or Tesco Momentum in town I would definitely only be using them but I don't unfortunately.
