Fuel smell on start up [emoji780]
« on: October 31, 2017, 06:48:25 pm »
I’ve searched and can’t find anything on this so hoping someone may throw me a bone on where to look...

On cold start up my car struggles to fire up followed by a smell of fuel, then on the second attempt starts perfectly and smell of fuel subsides! Answers on a post card please all?

Thanks in advance

Graham.

Replace pollen filter and change your fuel filter to a 6.6 bar one of already hasn't been replaced?.

Fuel smell on start up ❓
« Reply #2 on: November 01, 2017, 02:25:34 pm »
Why would the fuel filter cause this to happen?

Pollen filter was recently changed as part of a major service at vw.

You may want to check the pollen filter has really been changed as my local VW dealer only pretended to have done so.....

fuel filter can cause poor starting due to being filthy. Plenty of other issues can cause the same but simple things first

Must have a better vw dealer in West Sussex as yes it’s a nice clean new pollen filter fitted!

You can tell they've done the filter because there's usually a pile of leaves n' sh*t on the floor afterwards  :happy2:

I think mine deliberately don't hoover it up as 'evidence' they've changed it

When I worked at ford Inreplaced everything although some of the twats working there would throw them at one another meaning they never replace them and you'd see them in their tool boxes when asking for something and the bottom chest opens  :slap: even vw are the same as I've serviced many vw's and found dead clogged up filters that look like they've been on since warranty ended  :signLOL:

When your fuel filter is replaced, ask them for the old part and cut it open with a hacksaw for your own interest.

I did. Fairly dirty looking but no particles in it which assures me the quality of the fuel I was putting in.

When the tank is empty, you should pop the LPFP out and wipe a white rag along the bottom of the tank  :surprised:

Problem resolved but got a bit carried away and I ended up replacing the 6.6 bar fuel filter + R8 coil packs + pcv revision R + dv revision G and the car runs like a dream

I just buy mine from euro car parts. I get the MANN brand. No complaints
