Mk5 aftermarket headlight assembly experience?
« on: December 04, 2017, 01:50:28 pm »
Hi folks,

Finally got myself a GTI from a member on here :)

The lights are hazing and I was wondering what people's experience are with the aftermarket ebay jobbies? Seem to be about £125 a pair?

Cheers,
Paul.

After a search I've decided I'll go down the sanding/polishing route :)

I would be interested in any replies regarding the eBay headlights at 120 quid.

Reason being I've sanded/polished mine twice over the last few years and now they need doing again. Maybe I'm not sealing them properly after doing work? But I really can't be bothered to do them again.

Amy thoughts would be great

Cheers

You’d need to seal them every 3 months. first with the polish after you’ve sanded then with wax, then wax every 3 months that could be why yours keep fading.

Thanks for reply but I'm looking at getting new.

Just dont have the time or inclination to do them again let alone every 3 months.

I just run http://amzn.to/2m6C9jm over mine with polishing mop in the battery drill followed by microfibre for a good rub after I wash the car, it's not super often but it helps a bit.

This is what I ended up doing, although I don't have a DA polisher and I can't get a good finish by hand, went to 2000 on the wet and dry, but waiting for a polishing kit to turn up so I can try that :)

Although I haven’t personally tried them on my headlights, the Novus range of plastic polishes do a great job of getting scratches out of cds/dvds and could be worthwhile here.

Forgot to take photos of mine but I basically did this, just used a drill with a polishing attachment and it works a treat :D
