Yeah I've seen similar rusting on mine too.  Huge chunks of paint flaking off the driveshafts and ARBs and looking pretty rusty as a result, but otherwise it all looks solid still.  Those parts are so substantial, they're not going to snap any time soon, but it does look ugly!  I guess the long offside shaft and the arb flex a lot, so cracking paint is inevitable.  Same with the coil springs.

Yeah same with mine.  The rear is getting desperate.  Many of the bushes are shot and knocking, so that's a job for the summer.

Is that DSG cover not replaceable?  I'd be tempted to do that personally, or remove it and get it powder coated maybe?

I think the cover is replaceable but I think there's a decent amount of oil behind it so might need to do it once I get my DSG oil replaced. I managed to find an old thread where someone described the exact same issue but got a very small hole in it that leaked DSG oil so I'm watching it closely atm. Also has the mechatronic unit in it as well so dont want to do too much poking around. Have an email awaited from my local vw dealer as apparently they arent too pricey to replace so will see what they say.

Rear spring are in  :happy2: A nice easy job.

Not going to do the fronts today, but I've jacked it up and made sure none of the bolts where sizied. The drops links where fine. One of the pinch bolts was abit tight and need some breaker bar action but came out easy enough.

Plenty of WD40 on the fronts before attempting to whip them out as they're a beech to remove when seized up!!!

Yup its all loose up there now. WD40 and Impact werech on all the bolts. Lossened them and done them all back up for now so it should be easy when I come to finish the job next weekend hopefully.

Front springs went on today. Took about 4 hours in total. The main issue I had was with one of the bolts in the top mount, being rusted up, it ended up spinning the captive nut, which is a pain to get a socket on.

Shocks came out of their seats fine. It was getting them back in a found harder.

Only driven 3 miles on them so far, but they felt nice.

Yup. Its probably easy to take the calipers off and take the whole hub out, and attach the shock off the car.

If you have a vice then yes will be much easier as when I did my cv boot a few months back, it was a nightmare as my nerve issue didn't help and the weight just felt triple
