click preview....................."error".

I did spend a while putting post together, too long i guess. lesson learnt.

hi I'm new, I'm going to try again tomorrow. Will write the next topic in word and copy to post.

Thanks Rossimac, i'm a bit rusty at this. Ill have another go. Everyone seems very helpful on here. When I was last on VW forums I did find everyone was a bit intense and there were some pretty militant moderators but nice to see that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

I purchased the car at the end of Jan this year and will be my first MK5 gti having owned Mk1’s, 2’s, 3’s & 4’s. I still have a 170 V5 mk4 and a mk1 gti.

It’s a March 2005 AXX 5 door 2.0 TFSI in Tornado Red LY3D. The car was cheap at £3k, mileage was 94k IIRC and had a good amount of service history with receipts and 5 previous owners which was a little high for me but this was operation budget so beggars cant be choosers.

There wasn’t a lot outwardly wrong with it but wanted to bring it back to its former glory. As the price was low I set aside about £1k to spend on the car initially. It had heated leather/winter pack, wheels and tyres (matching Dunlop’s all round – a treat for me, they normally have 4 different unpronounceable brands on them when I buy a car)  were ok so I knew I had a good base to start with. As I say on a budget but will only use VAG parts where available, ideally new or NOS to get the price down, which I did on a lot of the bits below which have been replaced so far.

New indicator units to wing mirrors
Remove old boot latch and replace with new
New rear gas struts
Engine oil & filter change
Air & pollen filter replaced
Genuine V1k0201051K fuel filter from VW checked for correct bar against VIN
OEM Red 'R8' Ignition Coil Pack
ECS OEM PCV Breather Update Kit 2.0T FSI
OEM 1.8T/2.0T/2.5T Piston Diverter Valve 06H 145 710D
2.0TFSI Cam Follower Replacement Kit
NGK Iridium X Spark Plug Set – then NGK double platinum
New Battery

MOT history/annual mileage was fairly consistent which was a plus – it hadn’t sat up for years or anything like that. Suggests a lot of town driving so will be keeping an eye on clutch. Gear gaiter is a bit worn so has seen a few gear changes in its life.

I had an issue with over fuelling under heavy load, had some help on here and it looks like it may be pointing to faulty injector – its not throwing any fault codes out at the moment. Will run some tests with VCDS and see what it shows, but that’s another thread. The exhaust is on its way out so will replace, probably a stock replacement as don’t want to increase noise unless anyine has any suggestions - Im on a budget too. May attempt modest air intake and get it on a rolling road for a custom map depending what the outcome of the tests show. If I did go for an aftermarket intake id probably run at TTS engine cover (un audi’d) and a carbon dynamics inline filter down into the lower front valance with a carbon cold air intake. Im only doing this as the original engine cover and intake housing is a little ropey and suffered the broken clips they all seem to. Plus I have the carbon parts laying around and there seems to be an easy route out of the bay in the front corner ahead of the battery. I want to keep it OEM(+) and not go silly as its my wifes daily driver but having sold my VR6 Corrado a year or so ago I wanted something I could have fun in, the MK1 is lots of fun but it’s defo not a sleeper……..I want the MK5 to look stock and clean.

Unlike some of my previous/current cars…..

Just realised……lot of red. Not even my favourite colour
