Can anyone recommend a good safe courier etc for posting a wheel within the UK?

Try paisley freight, I have sent numerous sets with them. They generally subcontract to TNT

Agreed - I've used Paisley freight before for car seats and other oversize items like mk4 golf anni rear valance. Good service both times.
