Black Badge.....
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:05:46 pm »
After purchasing a old style MK5 badge from Big Al (Cheers mate) I finally got around to painting it and I decided to go for a satin finish. Initially I masked out the inner bits but when I removed the tape when it had dried the edges looked shabby. So I sanded it back down and tried again but the same happened and it just didn't look right.
In my infinite wisdom I sanded the whole thing back and decided to spray the whole badge, hoping that there would still be enough definition between the VW and the other bit. Now I've done it I'm not so sure its quite right so I've included a couple of photos to see what everyone thinks. Don't wanna start farting about with the boot trim if eveyone things it looks pants!

I think you may need a bit more definition on a Red car. I did a full black rear badge on my Silver .:R and it looked as though it had a piggy nose!

Maybe if you could get someone who was handy with a fine paintbrush to redefine the VW logo in white then re-laquer?  :happy2:

Fitted it and wasn't happy with it at all. As Greenouse said, it looks like a nose between two eyes! Can't be bothered in sanding it down again and buying yet more paint etc so I t see if my local body shop will smooth the whole thing and paint it red to match the car? Or I might just pass it on to somebody more DIY orientated than me!

Why not paint a red outline?

Or better still, paint the entire thing red to match the car and the VW bit in black!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I quite like the red outline idea but at the moment everything I touch goes er, wrong. So I'm gonna leave it for a bit and have a think about what to do. :drinking:
