Replacement Xenon Bulb
« on: June 15, 2018, 10:15:44 pm »
Hi guys,

One of my xenon bulbs have bitten the dust. Looking for either an OEM or OEM plus replacement. Has anyone got any recomendations? I see osram nightbreak xenarc unlimited were popular a few years ago - is this still the case? Any decent suppliers? I would like to avoid eBay due to so many fakes about.

Am I also better off replacing both bulbs?

Thanks

Rich

Just to close off this thread.

I opted for Osram Xenarc Nightbreaker unlimited which are highly rated. I got them from amazon (tip- its cheaper to buy two single bulbs than the twin pack)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/XENARC-BREAKER-UNLIMITED-discharge-66240XNB-HCB/dp/B00EPLD2EQ?th=1
Once arrived, i checked with on the Osram website where there is an authentication verification function to make sure the bulbs are genuine: https://www.osram.com/am/the-trust-program/index.jsp  - all good!  :happy2:

Fitting was an absolute pig as most may know. i followed this youtube video which helped massively https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiNmn6APn-s
The job took about 20 mins, taking my time and making sure i was as gentle as possible as there is a risk of breaking various clips and pins etc.

The new bulbs are certainly brighter than the 11 year old originals (which would have faded over time). I have to give the new bulbs a couple of weeks to burn in before i will see a brilliant white light - there is currently a slight yellow tinge.

Hope this helps

Rich

I didn't spot this until now. I replaced mine with Philips Xenon X-treme Vision ones from powerbulbs.com
I share your pain about fitting. I'm sure I took longer than 20 mins for the first bulb (passenger side). I did the second one on a different day and it was a bit easier. I didn't remove the headlights.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
