Steel wheel colour & winter tyres
« on: July 04, 2018, 01:53:44 pm »
I've got a set of 16" steel wheels.  I needed a spare set while my monzas are refurbed.

Thinking I may as well put some winter tyres on the steels, but want to tart them up before.

What colour would you do them?  Black? Silver? Grey?

Also, looking at Batum Polaris 5 winter tyres which are £67 fitted. Anyone used them?  Not the cheapest or most well known brand, but not some no name Chinese specials either!

I put Michelin crossclimate tyres on her yaris, good above and below 7 degrees, only under which do winter tyres beat normal tyres

I would just rattle can them in black satin as standard

As for tyres, I would only use full winters personally.  I've used quite an assortment of winters and all seasons over the years.....Nokian, Conti, Michelin, Dunlop and Kleber from memory.   My old BMWs wouldn't even move up a mild slope without winters.  I seem to remember Nokian were the best, and then Michelin Alpin.

Well I've gone for silver, harking back to my old MK2 golf.

I read that Nokian are really good, but I suspect the cheaper barum will be more than adequate for my needs.

Just need to get a date sorted for refurbing my monzas.

Well........not good!

I prepped and sprayed the wheels, and they have come out totally sh*te.

I took ages prepping one wheel and painting it to see how it went. It was the worst one.  The other three I lost paitence and did a quick job - these came out better than the first.

All three look a different shade of silver, all from the same can of paint.

They look better than before, but just a different kind of sh*t :(
