Help. Unable to do a wheel alignment due to seized bolt
« on: August 16, 2018, 09:02:00 am »
Hi guys after some advice. Tried to get all 4 wheels aligned after picking up some new wheels.  Had a good browse around here and it’s looking like I’ll be needed two new Control arms and some bolts to get sorted. Wheel alignment people said the rear eccentric bolt has seized that controls the rear camber so nothing can be done.

Going to be taking off my spacers for the time being until I get this sorted due to some rubbing on the rears. One wheel is more cambered than the other  . What’s the rough labour cost to carry out the works and are the above parts all I need.

Many Thanks
Raj

All this drama for a little camber. Wanted the top wheel to be the same as the bottom wheel but can’t be done. Is there any other way around this ?

Yeah very common.  Not too bad a job replacing the arms, just depends if the camber bolts need cutting out or not.

Your readings aren't far off and probably isn't affecting the handling or tyre wear.

Thanks @Pudding. You’ve put my mind at ease knowing the readings arnt too bad, hopefully I can get this sorted over the next few months. Going to speak to a local garage to get rough costs.

No worries.  The red blocks just look scary, but your toe is only 0.01 out of max tolerance, hence going red.  You won't even notice that.  Those machines need a traffic light system.  Green = All good.  Orange = needs adjustment but not dangerous.  Red = mega bad!

Very common.... Mine snapped on the ramp. Replaced them with superpro versions which hopefully should last the rest of the cars life.

Didn't know SuperPro did such a thing.  Good to know.

I carried out this work on the Passat due to knackered bushes and snapped springs.

OMG what a job getting the old rusty bolts out.
OMG trying to get the correct parts from Euro car parts. (Three visits).
OMG getting the new outer bushes in.

Could not use the car until the alignment was done, drove it around the block and it was very strange. Fair play to the local Kwik-Fit, no drama, set it up and had a good chat about the nightmare of working on cars.
