Is my engine about to go?
« on: September 01, 2018, 04:21:35 pm »
Hi all,

I've recently had some issues with my car with powerloss and the engine sounding like a diesel at high revs.

Long story short the timing somehow was knocked out, so had that sorted and the dv changed and the power is back ect.

However after a few thousand miles the car doesn't sound healthy at all!

The car still makes a horrible fast knocking noise like a diesel being thrashed high in the rev range, not sure if the turbo is on its way our or the chain needs replacing?

Any ideas to what could be causing this, the noise gets faster with the engine so it gets louder more into the rev range.

I am on 81,000 miles now too.

Thanks,

The timing going off sounds concerning, but another source of noise could be a bad DMF, or rod bearings if it's suffered any oil starvation issues?

Rod bearings are a persistent noise, whereas the DMF will rattle at certain rpms/loads.

Worth a check on the Cam follower in the HPFP as well, similar symptoms to what you are describing.

Did you have the cam chain and tensioner changed? The only way the timing can 'go off' is if the chain or the belt slips a tooth. Resetting the timing without fixing the cause of the issue is a catastrophe waiting to happen

Could possible be a bent valve(s)
