Car shaking 80-100
« on: October 01, 2018, 11:51:50 am »
Any ideas folks?
Having a nightmare, all started when I had x2 Michelin tyres put on the front.
Took back for rebalance, still there took somewhere else and said I had slight buckle on drivers front wheel. So bought some more wheels and had tyres put on, vibration still there, rebalance again and still there.

I’ve checked that and the original wheels didn’t have them

Swap your front wheels with those on the back, go back out on the track and if the problem is still there then it is not your wheels or tyres.  :happy2:

As mentioned before check your wheel bearings for play. Mine didn't make a noise initially, started to vibrate then before I knew it the one side overheated and seized solid!! :surprised:

I’ve found a little play in drivers cv joint, think the inner.
Passenger side  is solid.
You think this would cause high speed wobble?
Also what’s with the different codes on the driveshafts? Can’t find any that match my code of 2k jj

does it do it only when accelerating or just generally? can you feel it through steering wheel?
had this on my touran only when accelerating, after a tire change and replacing wishbone bushes, passenger front spring, and a 4 wheel alignment it went away.

Does it at varying speeds from 70 onwards , it’s slight but uncomfortable when cruising but if I plant my right foot the shakes will get worse

Deep down I still think it’s balncing but it’s been done like 5 times........may try a road force balance?? Anyone had that done?

on my touran I have lacquer peel on the inside and found weights was coming off, so I told the guy to scrape it off when installing weights. whether it was the actual tyres or the balancing I'm note sure, you have had new tires though, so I'm guessing balancing too. take it somewhere else and ask for balancing. mine used to shake when accelerating. quite bad too! (and at higher speeds)

Sort out your cv joint as this is most likely your problem. Not much life left in it if you can feel play in it and most probably where your vibration is coming from.  :happy2:

Had this on mine and it was balancing. In the end I got the dealer to do it and the problem went away.  Pretty much every time I use a big name tyre place, I get steering shake past 80 leptons. I will just use the dealer going forward.

Check your brakes aren’t warped. Another common cause.
