New member saying hi with a couple of questions
« on: October 08, 2018, 12:11:41 pm »
Hi all,
Just picked up an 07 R32 manual which I'm enjoying so far. It doesn't have parking sensors or bluetooth, but looking online it seems that if I fit an RCD330 CarPlay head unit, I can add a reversing camera which should work out the most cost effective solution. Has anyone fitted one of the number plate light cameras from ebay which are about £30? If so, do they work well and how much of a faff is it getting a cable to it? My suspicion is that it'll be a bit too low to be useful and will get covered in road grime very quickly.

I'm not averse to 'doing it properly' and getting one of the pop-out VW badge ones but suspect that this could be a lot of work to fit?

Any input greatly welcomed.

Cheers

Chris

Have just fitted a rcd330 and married it to the matching flip out camera. It’s a great combo and no harder than any other camera install. But as you say it also prevents the camera getting covered in road grime

Thanks - may I ask where you got the flip out camera from?

Cheers

Eddie-NL is a bit of an expert when it comes to installing the cameras, but they are not cheap, as you need the correct loom as well.
He’s based near Great Yarmouth but well worth the trip as he’s done several.

How are you finding the R32 performance wise?

^^ he’s looking for a camera to fit an rcd330 which uses rgb where the European oem units use AV. The kits to fit the rgb setup is less than £100 all in but as you say to fit oem av units it’s nearer £300 but this isn’t directly compatible with the op stereo.

Re the performance. I'm impressed. It's a bit of a stop gap car as am in the middle of a big house build so have sold my Carrera 4S (had a 682bhp F10 M5 before that) so compared with what I've had before it's not the fastest, but it's very useable power and it's great fun being in a hot hatch again. My wife had a Mk7 R a few years ago which was fun, but the exhaust note was just awful. It sounded like it was farting every time you changed gear.
