Diagnostics - Wild guesses please!
« on: December 08, 2018, 04:24:01 pm »
Looking for some diagnostic wild guesses!

I have a 58 Pirelli, a nice low mileage car that I don't want to plough through the winter. Managed to get a clear garage this weekend, took it out one last time... And the ABS light is on.. Grrr. Actually used it yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks - ABS was for sure fine then as the brakes had a bit of surface rust and I gave it a couple of full hard stops.

Sequence is: ABS light just never went out after startup. Stop/restart is the same - just on permanently. After a few yards/getting up to 5mph ish, the ESP and TPM light come on. ESP/TPM go out after stopping/starting but come on again after setting off.

Just after some thoughts! It can wait until I unearth it in probably March before I do anything about it. I've never got around to getting VCDS, and I'm sick of seemingly endless car hassle (not with this one, until now!), so I'll probably just send it to my local VAG indi - but some ideas would be nice.

Probably just a duff abs sensor or a corroded abs pick up ring.

Yeah, was my guess too.

Seems likely it's seeing a fault right away with an ABS sensor open circuit or something, then triggering TPM/ESP errors after it starts moving and those modules don't get the expected signal.

Cars don't like being sat for ages.  Try a long drive and see if it clears up.
