I've successfully manged to get my wings changed over today by VW approved Inchcape bodyshop in Audenshaw Manchester. These guys were really quick in getting back to me with updates and booking the car and very good service.

After seeing the recent pictures posted on a grey Golf I was worried about the end result. However they've done a top job on matching the colour. Highly recommended.

I take it they were done under warranty ?
How long did it take from them being looked at till they were replaced ?

Hi, Yes they were done under warranty.

It took just over a week from the initial inspection for them to call me back and arrange and appointment.

No messing about here for response time!

Exactly the same experience I had with Inchcape Colchester a couple of years ago.  No quibbling, they just got on with it.  From paint depth test to completion took 3 days.  Couldn't be happier with that.  I also use them for servicing and again, no complaints and I am one picky Mofo!

I reckon as these cars get closer to 12 years old, the more resistance we might get, but I had 4 years left on the warranty at the time.

Likewise please.

My aches are just starting to show signs of bubbling (57plate) and I would like to get it sorted before it gets bad!

Ive got some rust on both arches now, lip on offside has rusted through but only minimal bubbling on show. I put waxoyl stuff on the inside ages ago plus took the foam supports out and have been told informally that dealers will refuse as they claim its been 'taken into my own hands' can anyone confirm/deny this? I'd be going to stockport vw who seem fairly helpful from previous posts on here.

Yep, they will use any excuse to get out of paying, but you could argue that waxoyl is a rust preventative and you felt compelled to use it because of VW being so slow and useless with the warranty process.

I suspect there are a lot of MK5s getting wings at the moment, so there could be some delays, but providing you start the claim before the year 12 cutoff, you're OK.

I got refused today.....not happy!
He reckons it's had a previous repair, but didn't check paint depth to confirm it.
Don't know what to do now??

I'd ask them to check the paint depth... they should definitely have the gauge to do this and only takes them a second to do. Just ask if they can check for your own peace of mind if nothing else.
