Help with intake manifold flap code P2008-001 - how to sort
« on: April 20, 2014, 11:41:58 am »
I've done a search and still not clear on what we can do about this fault can anyone help us out, located West London/Surrey

Car = 2005 Gti DSG, when re-set the engine light will come back on after a few days driving (car drives fine although does not start as well as it should when cold).

Fault code is P2008-001 intake manifold flap bank one electircal malfunction

The pic below shows the scan result

https://twitter.com/Rallycrosscraig/status/457828979651932161/photo/1

The garage I am using is an indy specialist and does not know much about this fault, he recons its 4 or 5 hours work to do.

So, is this scan detailed enough or will VAGcom tell us more?
How much is a new inlet manifold?
Can the existing one be fixed (eg remove flaps?)
Anyone got a spare inlet mani to suit?

thanks for any help.

Quite likely to be the manifold flap motor.  Got the same issue on mine, it's around £180 for a new motor. You won't need a new manifold.  Worth doing the motor adaption process with VCDS just to see if it clears first.

Got sorted, performed the Basic setting.

Intake Manifold Runner
Prerequisites:
Ignition ON
Engine OFF
System voltage at least 11.0 V.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 142
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Switch Ignition OFF for at least 60 seconds.

Notes:

Timing chain driven engines such as the CCTA, CBFA and CCTA were phased in during model year 2008. Those engines use an entirely different IMRC system which uses engine vacuum in conjunction with a solenoid so Basic Settings 142 must be completed at idle.

Never run Basic Settings with the IMRC motor linkage disconnected from the intake manifold. It may damage the new part.

Guess I may as well join the bandwagon, it seems a common fault. Willni I’ve done that reset before and the problem just returns

Does the fault return quickly or is it a mid-term fix? Don't particularly feel like forking out for a new one at £180.

Hi Willni I would say it’s a mid term fix, I did the reset mid July and scanned it to weeks ago no faults picked up. The engine light came on last week.

There is an old thread on here somewhere with the same problem, although I think there are several part numbers for a similar part

A popular plug used to be the "Nology" Plugs, they brought a fault code up pretty much the same.

If it's not broke, Mod it.....
