Boring diesel Golf Mk6... with a few extras
« on: October 07, 2014, 07:47:16 pm »
So partly inspired by golfman (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,69645.0.html) I bought this a few weeks ago:

Its a 2011 2.0 TDI 140 DSG in Shadow Blue. Match specification so its pretty well equipped but with Nav, 17in alloys and Park Assist on top of the already generous kit list.

Admittedly not as fun as my old GTI but I needed something newer and more economical due to changing circumstances.

Potential plans are to remap and fit a 170 turbo which will in theory take it back up to GTI power levels. I'm also looking at fitting a leather interior, OEM LED tail lights, front fogs and maybe lowering slightly.

Thanks for looking  :happy2:

Thanks for the comments.

If anyone on here has experience tuning this engine (140 CR) I'd be interested to hear. I might not get round to it for a few months but its definitely on the cards! Reading mixed things online regarding power gains and how much torque the DSG 'box can handle...

How come you didn't go for a GTD, as those with just a remap out power a stock GTI don't they? (This isn't meant as a dig, just curious...)

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Fair question, reason is they seem to cost £1500 - £2k more on the used market and aren't as well equipped missing bits like cruise control, bluetooth and parking sensors. This one seems like a good base as a kind of a junior GTD with a few toys! Also the engines are apparently identical with only the turbo differing.

Plans sound good! You didn't hang around for the RNS 315

I really like where the windows switches are, much more convenient!

Couple of minor exterior mods, very subtle but sharpen up the looks. If you can't spot them they are near the top and bottom of the photo

I also got an MDI cable for my iPhone 6 to go under the armrest. Works nicely with full control via the RNS and you can still use Bluetooth for Phonebook and Calls at the same time.

Overall I've been quite pleased with the car and like it more than I thought. Clearly not as fun as the GTI but it just effortlessly eats up the miles in total comfort. Even managed 62mpg on a run down to Heathrow earlier in the week...

Bigger things to come in the new year anyway  :driver:
