excellent read and good repair skills :happy2:

Thanks buddy! Hope the car is back in action!
nah they still have it and it won't be back anytime soon from what I can see as these claims companies thrive on taking the wizz and keeping the car in storage for as long as possible and how they make part of their money.

Hopefully it won't be much longer and then you'll really enjoy it when you get it back!

Hi,  are these number plate lights the ones you used?    youtube search - 2x OEM VW GOLF PASSAT SCIROCCO SEAT LED license plate lights 1K8943021 C  - asking because it does not mention golf mk5 and says might need vcds but they seem the right ones!

secondly - I'm going to paint calipers - what brand paint spray and clear coat id you use?   and did you paint the hat on disks?
did you bother getting a brake refurb kit or just paint?

Nope, these are the ones I used - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/2-PCS-24-LED-White-License-Number-Plate-Light-Canbus-For-VW-Passat-Golf-GTI-MK5-/291540195553

I used VHT red spray paint for the caliper and VHT black spray paint for the retaining springs. Page 1 of my guide has the full step by step breakdown of the process. I then recently refurbed them again!

Really nice project, I didn't realise the plastic steering wheel surrounds can be replaced. That's good because my wheel is in good condition but the coating has started to flake off on the surrounds and it looks really tatty.

Yeah, they're very easy to change. I bought a new set form VW but in the end I preferred them sprayed silver so the new set are sitting somewhere in the garage!

Nearly time for its summer detail but as a top up in the meantime I stripped it down and gave it a quick coat of jetseal109.

Found it easy to apply it on a low speed setting with my das6 using a microfibre head. leave it for 20mins and buff off with a foam finishing head. Very happy with the results and saved my shoulder a burning 2 hours of buffing work!

Did the wheels while I was at it and found a tiny stone chip which I was able to fill, paint and lacquer so hopefully the white worm won't start!

Completely worth the work, half a days work for several months of shine! I recommend giving it a go after the snow!

Thanks buddy! Photo was actually taken with my new iPhone 7 plus. Have to say, the camera quality on it is amazing

Nice Mk5 Luke, I'm based in Ireland myself. We should get a Mk5 meet going in Dublin some stage in spring.
