Next hypothesis might be a failing clutch master/slave cylinder, right? :confused:
I have no idea  :sad1:

Total waste of time today. Times are tough at the moment and got shafted at the seat dealer €120 for 3 bottles of gear box oil and a coolant temp sensor.

Gears still stiff after a motorway blast to add to that the temp gauge still sits on a quarter.

Maybe flushing the brakes/clutch is the next thing i should try?

Yeah, you can flush the clutch, can't do any harm I guess. If the brakes are working well or if the fluid is less than 2 years old, I don't see the point on flushing them for now.

Yeah, you can flush the clutch, can't do any harm I guess. If the brakes are working well or if the fluid is less than 2 years old, I don't see the point on flushing them for now.
I've had the car 4 years and never changed the brake fluid so it could be worth doing.  :ashamed:

You can have it checked, some mechanics have a device that tests the fluid humidity.  :happy2:

I will just change it the car has been neglected. Don't think this will solve the problem though. I think its the clutch??

At the moment you can flush the brakes and the clutch. The clutch might improve, if not you need to check the clutch cylinders. The slave is easy to replace, for what I've seen.

Having a read of the haynes manual (ford galaxy)
Mater cylinder seems easy enough slave not so much gearbox needs to be removed.

My diesel engine has the slave cylinder above the gearbox, so I think it's just the airbox that needs to be removed. It's different. :/

The good thing about the golf is there is so much info 99% of the problems are well documented. Feel like i'm grasping at straws with this one.

The gearbox on my car looks different from the pictures at http://partscats.info need to find out exactly what gearbox i have.

Yeah, you can find almost everything you need online about Golfs. There are great communities, just like this forum, to help out when you have a doubt.

Not sure how are forums of the Allambras/Sharans/Galaxys. If you don't find good enough info online I guess you'll need to check a VAG specialist. :sad1:

Spoke to a friend who is a mechanic, he seems to think its the slave cylinder he advised me not to flush the clutch as it may fail completely  :confused:

The part itself isn't expensive. The labour might not be cheap, if the gearbox needs to come off, like you've seen. :confused:

@vRSAlex any thoughts on this? Think i may have to take out the gearbox if thats the case may as well inspect the clutch?

Bled the clutch earlier the front bottle is was i siphoned from the reservoir the back bottle is what a managed to collect from the clutch the rest went on the floor as the pipe came off.

The clutch feels a little better but gears are still getting stiff when things heat up.
