Forge engine caps
on May 20, 2018, 04:46:40 PM
Anyone know where I can get these caps in chrome? I saw them a few years back before I got my Edition 30 but I've spent weeks looking for some and can only find ones for the mk7 GTI.

Any help appreciated.

The one from your ebay link is good. Get a genuine or get the bigger IC replica of the THS. I wouldn't buy from an aftermarket company without knowing if it works well. The others I've mentioned are known to work well for a K04.

Gold monzas?
Last Poster: shail in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 11:39:35 PM
Getting my monzas powder coated as they are in bad shape.

Wanted silver chrome with grey inserts, but powder coater said that for some reason the chrome silver bubbles on previously badly corroded areas, so he's not happy to do.

Choices - which one would you choose?

1. Any single colour - £120
2. Any two tone e.g Silver with grey inserts - £240

Re: GTi Mk5 or Mk6 as a race car?
Last Poster: Shoduchi in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 08:31:33 PM
Yes, it's flywheel. The dyno was a Bapro, so it measures wheel drag to calculate flywheel power as well.

I think the mk6 GTI intake is much better than the mk5 GTI intake. Upgrading it would be something to leave for later after testing the engine output with the factory intake. You're not aiming for very high numbers where a less restrictive intake would be nee

Ring Awesome and ask for John Glover, 0161 776 0777, ask his advice regarding changing the brake fluid/snapping the bleed nipple.
Always best to get a second opinion if nothing else.

Hello all,

I wanted to introduce myself, I am the driver of a Mk5 Golf Edition 30 (No. 0047) in Steel Grey '56 plate.

Until now I have never been very active on the forum, despite happily owning it since 2014. I have always found this forum really helpful. It is one of (if not) the best out there for help, DIY guides, convo topics etc.

Re: ARB Size
Last Poster: MIJ_JAGGER in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 02:20:11 PM
I'm guessing that you're referring to the front ARB which you can only get the whole ARB from VW. The size is 23,6 mm x 3,5 mm.

Just for reference the rear is 21,7 mm x 3 mm.
Yes front ARB, should’ve mentioned that. Ordered one, £98.99
Thanks for the reply [emoji1

Unfortunately VW doesn't sell just the seal for these antennas. You can only get the whole base that comes with the seal and the nut that holds the base of the antenna to the roof. The base part number is: 1K0035501F.

Re: VWR Intake disappointing
Last Poster: The Red Warrior in Performance Modifications on Yesterday at 12:32:56 PM
So, are VWR definitely going to replace parts with the new spec stuff for those of us who already have this intake if we ask them?
The reason I ask is I’ve just been emailed that it is now 47% off from a place that I’ve bought from before. US$280 is now the price (plus shipping) which seems too good to pass up.

You’ve done some similar bits to me. I’ve been a bit slow off the mark.
Get that cam follower done definitely. I did mine in about an hour. It’s worth it for the piece of mind.

Nice mk5, I've recently got another myself but this time I went for a TDi as it came up for decent money! I see your planning on getting an R-tech map. I cant recommend Nick enough you're definitely making the right choice! My old mk5 gti was stage2+ from R-tech and to say it was a lot of fun is an understatement. Still regret selling it 4 years later.

Hopefully it does the job. Otherwise its a good unit and makes the dash look much nicer. Only complaint i have is the screen does suffer from glare somewhat- although window tint would see to that. I also cant find anyway to autodim the screen when the lights turn on. Ive looked through the settings, is there something im missing?

Last Poster: shail in Mk5 General Area on July 18, 2018, 08:29:05 PM
I had a knock, but mine turned out to be rack.

During diagnosis they also checked the subframe bolts as apparently these have a tendency to get loose and cause knocking - something easy to check.

Did you change the DV? If you did was it split? I think you have a smallish split in the DV that, when cold, is managing to maintain roughly the boost required. Then, when hot, the rubber gets more malleable and therefor lets through more air. Even if you've checked the DV and thought that it's fine don't put it back in, just replace it and see if it's cured - eventually you'll nee

Mid front door speaker adaptors
Last Poster: Wprice1280 in How to Guides / Troubleshooting on July 18, 2018, 02:43:39 PM
Hi all.

Sorry in advance for any repetition. I'm trying to find some mid speaker adaptors for the front doors on my mk5 gti 06. Ive retro fitted 3 ways using a glue gun but am unhappy with the results and wanted to find some decent adaptor pods to fit them correctly. The speakers are focal 165as3. I've searched around but can't find anything. If anyone has any info or l
