Thought it was about time I made a members ride thread, to log my painfully slow progress
Bought the car standard, 36k DSG - Only extras being the winter pack, high line, and multi function steering wheel

The only extras i have done now is a Stage 1 remap with the guys from tuneside
A pipercross filter
A parrot 3100 LCD kit
Some open air fog grills
And some light rear tints 50% to resemble the optional extra privacy glass.
I've recently had the 40k service at Statllers of Sheffield ( who i can't rate enough :happy2: :happy2:)
and the car ran 300bhp on their rollers tonight, so I'm over the moon (graphs will be added soon, but here is a shakey vid )

Hello Buddy!
Long time no speak/see! I'm surprised you haven't done a car thread yet. Your car looks insane at the moment.
And with regards to VAGCO, I've recently discovered Statllers in Sheffield, both the guys have Edition 30s moddified to the knackers and are exteremly good at what they do.
I'd honestly give them a quick visit too, you will be surprised how much there is to know about these cars!
We need to have a meeting soon too! :happy2:
-
http://www.statller.com/
There you go.
Hopefully they will put me on the pay roll soon
-
Are you around Hinkley (saying you got it mapped at tuneside) i saw a red ed30 a month or so ago in hinkley on my way to see chris at tuneside. I was in a Candy white 3dr ed30.
On another note the red GTIs have grown on me a bit and yours is a stunning example!

Thanks Cal. I live in sheffield/doncaster, abit further up north I'm afraid. I haven't been to see Chris since August either, which is a shame.
Have you got your candy remapped then? Sounds lovley

Keano your motor looks spot on there. That's a lovely stance, how much have you dropped it by? What exhaust is that also?
-
Quick little update.
Had a custom exhaust from Powerflow (Longlife) fitted today. - I've had several systems with them in the past with previous cars, and i have always been over the moon.
Also, had the rear cat removed, but flanged so it can be re-fitted when ever i need it. - This creates a nice raspy burble, which was lacking before.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5010%2F5282876261_bf150daaef_b.jpg&hash=7f936358a6f3a1911e9edce41a405c842822807d)
Have a Merry Burbly Gurgly Christmas :santa: :santa:

-
I'll run and get one for you now Steve :happy2: *gets coat on*
-
Stance and exhaust are the business Keano. Video as Steve says would be welcome :happy2:
-
Okay I have one. It's pretty bad to be fair ha (sounds rubbish!!!), and I've just discovered my SLR is broken so had to do it on an iPhone
Also, the car IS at full temperature and running fine. The smoke is from the ridiculous temperatures
-
Love the popping coming from those tails on throttle back. I bet that sounds mental :happy2:

It really doesn't actually  . Just the occasional pop now and again. I might accidently have the other silencer cut out though :jumpmove:

This is a pic of the exhaust now it's light. Is it possible to lift up the rear hanger? The exhaust seems a tad droopy, although the rubber seems fine

I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. Infact. Better than that :happy2:
It can be loud if you want it to be loud, just as it can be quieter if your tootling around.
If your not after intrusive noises though, I'd perhaps suggest the Dblias or twintake as they are meant to be quieter i think? However, maximum noise is what I was after
-
cheers mate ill have to think on this 1 :happy2:
-
Popped on the dyno at Stattlers today.
The intake made about 5hp and made power alot further down the rev range. Also a crazy 33 lbft of torque was gained too :driver:
:happy2: Nick

Sorry Alex,
It's the 3M matte black wrap stuff. Very easy to apply
-
Cheers Keano, I did think it was something like that :) Guess you ran it right into the weld seams and trimmed it to the little ridge so it sits in nicely :happy2:
-
Where did you get your wrap from? It's about £100 a roll?
-
A friend of mine has a window tinting/ wrapping business, so he just gave me a small off cut from the roof.
Matt on the forum has done his in electrical tape, and it looks fantastic!
-
One wide bit or lots of pieces?
-
Thanks to BritishLion, I managed to get the engine cover back on.
Requires abit more cutting to be perfect, and I should have really spent more time on the spraying...but at least its on. :jumpmove:

I dont mean that bit... i mean that part of the intake the is still attached to the front grill! Right in front of the 90degree silicon pipe!
-
Oh right! Well i had it off, but my mechanic (Steve from Statllers in Sheffield) told me to put it back on to direct airflow :stupid:
-
It directs air straigt to the the 90' bend and away from the filter though :stupid:
-
That's what I said! :sad1:
Hmmm. Will take it off tomorrow :happy2:

-
Hi Keano, are you running sports spring with standard shocks?if so how do find the handling coping with the above mods?
-
Yes I am. The shocks are fine and it handles very well. (much better than standard anyway).
I still find it rolls abit round corners. But I'm not sure what I should buy to combat this :chicken:
-
I'm also running asimilar set up,H&R springs on stock shocks and still just wanting a little bit more! I've been advised to fit antirole bar to the rear and this should do the job
-
I hope so buddy. I feel like I'm going to fall out the window sometimes
Would the WALK improve this do you think?
-
Errrrr dun no,keep them windows shut!but she's booked in for that role bar and I'll let you no how that goes
-
Hey Keano I've been reading that you have been using statlers in sheff for your mods,do you recommend them? this is not far from me living in Doncaster and my air con compressor decided to blow up yesterday and I'm having nightmares that it will cost a fortune! :sad1:
-
If you look at Hurdy's build thread, I think he used Statlers a lot for his car too. :driver:

The car looks really great with these wheels (9 out of 10) but IMO it looks better with the grey wheels (9.5 out of 10).
But it is just a matter of taste so don't mind me .
Drive safe!

Love the car keano, great taste in mods massive improvement to your standard eddy :happy2:

Ive got falkens on mine, not a bad tire but offer no protection what so ever for the wheel, hence why mine need re doing!!!

Power results are quality Keano.
DRL's look cool, I tried them also for a wee bit. I still maintain they suit halogen lights better than the Xenon clusters too... :drinking:

Had the pleasure of seeing this the other day at the north east rolling road day! Gorgeous car keano looks even nicer in the flesh  Great figures in the end too bet you had a fun drive home :driver: Love the drls too, wish i realised this on the day would of loved that doing on mine too!

Keano, nice work with the car really liking what you have done.
Is there anychance you could post up some more pcitures of the drls, very cool mod and something I am considering... Do you have to switch the sidelights on to activate this function or do they come on automatically?

Get a little exhaust on Rich. It's not intrusive at all! And it looks the biz whizz lol

I wish mine stayed sounding standard! heard a standard GTI with dsg pull away and it sounded great!!
-
3" Downpipe being fabricated this week, then off to see Dave for my Stage 2 map :driver:
-
Who is fabricating your downpipe? and do you know how much?
-
Nice! I want a red ED30 after seeing yours, so simple but effective..
-
Who is fabricating your downpipe? and do you know how much?
A good friend of mine works as a powerflow (longlife) dealer in Doncaster. He is doing mine for about £120.
I imagine he'd fabricate one for anyone else around the £200 mark. Pm if you'd like his details.
And thanks Harm:)
-
Looks great. :congrats:
It should sound even better with the de-cat/downpipe too.
-
Looks so great yeah :happy2:
Could you please give us more :signLOL:

Update:
3" Stainless downpipe & decat fabricated and fitted...
After letting the car warm up I took it out for a drive. (in the wet! :driver:)
You can immediately feel a difference in terms of power, sound (much deeper and throatier) & even the feel through the steering wheel ( if that makes sense?) then drove it back to the unit to give a big thumbs up :happy2: and to pay.
On the way back home, I've never had such a big smile on my face. This thing makes a good exhaust sound bloody awesome!, with the occasional pop and bang to suit!
I'd highly recommend Bret at TopGear Performance in Doncaster to fabricate it infront of your eyes.
This is on par with one of the best things I've bought for the car! :happy2: :happy2: :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :driver:

After a little mix up I had with buying a smooth grill which turned out not to be smooth  I decided to have it smoothed in the bodyshop instead of sending it back.
Had a little update from my bodyshop guy. It seems to be going well.

Was this a straight swap or did it need coding/ new controller thingy?
Are there any online guides to swapping them over for numpties like me :rolleye:
-
I'm the biggest numpty you will ever meet and it took me about 20 mins.
No coding or abything needed. Just start by prising open the top vent and work your way through the layers and torx screws till everything pulls off. :happy2:

I've read some posts where people have had to change a module due to battery drain - how do i know if i need to do this (mine is a 07 ED30)?
-
Mine is too dude. Apparently the rcd510 is okay but you may run into problems if you fit the RNS510 apparently.
Send Darren, 'mortygttdi' a message, he's extremely helpful. :happy2:

Grille has come back from the body shop today & I am very proud of him! :drinking:

Rob said he'd be willing to do this for members with a few day turn around time. It'd cost you less than half of a smooth grill :happy2: :happy2:
Let me know what you think
-
Looks great mate. Am also going to be doin mine some time this year. Transforms the front of the car completely! :drinking:
-
Had the coileys fitted today.
I normally fit coilovers and faff about for weeks, dropping it up and down. So today I decided to don my red, Rambo bandana and wind them all the way to the bottom and leave them. Then get my mechanic to fit them as I know nothing  (adjuster plate also out the back)
4 Wheel laser alignment at 4.30pm tomorrow. :happy2:
I thought I'd be consistent with the rest of the thread. So I took a few sh*t blurry photos for you all. :drinking:

Looks awesome Keano :notworthy:
Love the gloss black Pescaras, they always look like 19's when when done gloss!
And as always your paintwork is just sublime :happy2:
-
Really does look awesome!
I'd be really interested to know how you find the AP's compared to the springs.
I'm hoping to treat mine to a little lowering in the new year!
Also what products are you using to get your tornado red to 'pop' like that!!?
-
Looking good mate, i see you took my advice on taking the plate out ;).
-
Thanks guys :happy2:
The ride is firmer than standard, don't get me wrong. But I'd be happy to take the in-laws out in it. ( that is my very own suspension harshness test haha)
My dampers were very sloppy when I took them off so I imagine they weren't performing 100% so anything is better really
I'd certainly reccomend them to anyone thinking about them.
-
You loving the wheels yet Nick?
-
Looks great!! What coilovers you on? And where do you plan on putting your front plate now?

 looks amazing dude! paint work is perfect, love the glossy black wheels too! real aggresive stance with the coilies on too :happy2:

Nothing. The naughty little 'so and so' broke down
See my other thread in the general section. I'll be rebooking but not telling the car this time, so it can't throw a wobbly a day before haha

I'll Have them...for the right price. How much would you like for those babies?
-
Problem with cutting out is fixed thanks to Simon @ VagCo in Doncaster.
Turned out to be the low pressure fuel sensor on the HPFP. It must have been bad for a while because it really has seemed to make a difference. :happy2:
Hurray, Hurrah! :drinking:
-
Does that require whole new pump?
-
No just the low pressure sensor dude. It's separate.
If it was the other one, it's fuel pump time!! :scared: :scared: :scared:

My guess at fuel pressure issue was correct then :star:

The finish on your paintwork is amazing! Gloss black wheels just look so good on red cars. Gorgeous car :congrats:

Also, if you ever have a Doncaster meet I'll have to pop across I'm just outside sunny Scuny!

Keano, have you ever been stopped by the five-o about the number plate in windscreen? I love the no reg look.
Mate mines been in the windscreen for about 6 months an ive been scotland and back. The lakes and anglesey and never been pulled yet.
Chuck it in i think they see a nice car compared to a saxo/106/corsa and think ur liable to look after ur car in other aspects and drive sensible so let it slide.
Just my opinion

love this dude ! black on red looks ace

I spent 4 hours today fitting a HID kit a friend gave to me.
Luckily it only took 10 minutes to rip out! Bleurghhhghhhhh!
-
LOL.... HID in reflector housings are the work of the devil!
-
Very nice mate..
-
Cheeky exhaust vid:
Ive also had the mirrors sprayed black to match the wheels and should be expecting some lower rear springs from Patrick on here.
-
Oooookay. Not alot has happened recently apart from fitting the new springs to the rear and a cheeky little paint enhancement.
I thought I'd take a few pics anyway so you all don't forget me!

Wow this car is real nice, I'd love a red Mk5!
What do you use on your tyres to dress them, they look stunning!
Also, where are you based, I have a detailing session on the cards AND some tints? Another quick question, how light of a tint can you get hold of/do? Thanks

Tint MAY have fallen on the front window. They are 50% so in real life they look pretty legal. It's just a funny angle, hence how dark they look.

Oki doke. I've been given the opportunity to swap the pescaras for a set of new alloys.
My friend from school is running his own alloy wheel business atm. They're called SQUARED. You may have seen his AMG about...

Anywhooooo.....
He has designed these wheels, (currently in production) and I'm just wondering on people's opinions? They'd be 18" x 8.5J
I've made a dodgy photoshop so you can imagine them on the car.
Comments appreciated on this one :happy2:

What's up with the 8.5 dude? Think i'll have issues?
-
Well I can't say for sure, but Ive had 19x8J ET45 wheels for a long time now and they have never rubbed. Even lowered 45mm with the car full!
Ive also noticed that when some other people have had rubbing issues, they mention the 8.5" wheels. But that could be due to different offsets.
All I can say for sure is that IMO, 19X8J ET45 are perfect.
-
Dont think they look great, almost a bit cheap :surprised:
Maybe nicer in black/grey but not a fan of the design. Think the spokes go to far on to the rim/face off the alloy.
Cars looking gret tho, very shiney :driver:
-
I like them! Certainly suits the car in your PS.
Would like to see them darker. Anthracite/black maybe?
-
They look awesome, was speaking to the guys at Squared at UD, seem a good bunch and ther quality is staggering.
What kind of money they looking for a 1-piece rim as the only had slpits at UD.
-
I'm not keen on the Squared ones at all. So my vote is to keep the Pescaras.
-

Yeah John and the guys are awesome.
The cast single rims retail at under £1000 so not too bad.
Thanks for the feedback too guys. :happy2:

-
Nice! What's the specs on the new wheels bud? And where'd you get em from
Well hopefully going for a staggered set if we can get the fitments right.
They are 18x8J at the front and 18x9J at the rear. Offset is 42 so that's the only thing worrying me.
If I can't manage the 9s at the rear i'll just buy a full set of 8s. :happy2:
-
Sounds good!! I'm in the market for some lm reps and fancy 8 front 9 rear on a ET45 but have the NQSBBK up front so dubious about whether theyll fit over!

Where are you based dude? They are letting me trial fit them first :)

Many more plans? I also have a red 3 door ed30. I love it to pieces.
Okay. So today this happened

What'cha think? :innocent:
-
Yeah they're reps. :innocent: They don't make LM's in a 112 offset. Quality is bang on to be fair. I lined them up next to my friends REAL Lm's and there isn't a great deal of difference (albeit, his wallet is lighter!)
And the guys at Sorted are awesome Dan. He let me trial fit them before I made a decision :pomppomp:
He took me out in his Passat R36 earlier. Wow!
-
great :drinking:
-
Looks sweet
-
They look much better mate IMHO.
What size rubber?
I wouls prob go for LM reps if I ever change to 18s.

Time for a new mechanic mate.
Serious Stuff, are wheel bolts.
Glad you are here to tell the tale. :happy2:

Anyone have any ideas/ recommendations for 5mm spacers?
-
lucky there Keano! could have been an expensive jobby that! thankfully you werent giving it some round a corner! :driver:
-
:surprised: Fairly nasty fella! The "What if's?" roll through your mind afterwards...
I had exactly the same thing at around 50mph on a major A road where the front left sheered off. Fortunately, the road was straight and my brake disc acted as a super anchor  :ashamed:
Turned out I'd bought the wrong bolt type and the donuts at my local tyre factor hadn't pointed this out nor noticed that the bolts were constantly loose either. It was my first car and the first set of Oz Super Turismos I'd fitted - my first ever mod in fact, I learnt the soft way too thank goodness :stupid:
-
ouch. has it not damaged the wing too?
Lucky it wasnt at speed!
-
I had a front wheel come off before, I was doing around 20-30mph, i heard a big and saw my wheel fly 20 feet in the air and shoot passed me, i could stop straight away and my disc cut a line in the tarmac. The front wing was dented and I had to change all the brake bits on that side. Was a bloody nightmare, i had to get the car picked up and i was stuck in the middle of a very busy road in South London.
You got lucky!!!
-
Bad luck, Nick...
Hubcentric spacers are the only way to go, check out the Forge site...

Bought these little fruitloops from Germany. Should be here Thursday according to FedEx.
Engineered for the mk5 with a 57.1 bore and 5x112 pcd. Hopefully wont be made of oats and wheat. (cheereo's so goooood to eat) :jumpmove:

Be careful with these chap, Unless a couple of mm your better off with hubcentric jobbies. Yours reduce the hub mounting area by 5mm, Not ideal even with longer bolts.
Remember the bolts hold your wheel in place but the hub locates them.

Whats the thinnest hub centric available?

I think our braking pilot came across some 5 mm ones when looking at options for my Works. :happy2:

I'm not sure we can describe a wheel falling off as lucky but you were really. Could have been a lot, lot worse that.
The wheels and rest of the car look simply stunning.
-
car looks awesome dude! i love it! can i ask where you got the exhaust tips from?
-
Cheers guys :)
The exhaust tips are from PowerFlow. Where abouts are you based?
-
Cheers mate, I'm from Bradford.. wanting to get mine changed over soon as i think the ones i have on now stick out too much and are a straight cut, unlike yours which are slightly cut to an angle? if you understand what i mean.

Small update.
Getting bored, taking care driving everywhere with the new wheels on. I miss my summer blasts down B roads.
So as a result I was FORCED  to buy some 17" monza's and the plan is to bash some legal sticky rubber on them :)
Might paint in a stupid colour/ design too, so get your ideas in!! :pomppomp:

Great car mate. Looks like you have the best of both worlds really with the LM's for show and the monza's for driving days. Easily changed if you have some decent jacks and tools as well. I might get some 17" fast road wheels with sticky tyres for mine at some stage and have the VZ's for show.
-
When you sell them... let me know... :happy2:
-
Well this evening I've been out murdering 99% of South Yorkshire's fly population.
I think it's safe to say, this is the first time I have actually driven my car as It was designed to be driven :surprised:, with surprisingly good results given the current set up.
If anyone knows the roads from Balby to Wadsworth thru Tickhill to Oldcoats, and back thru Rossington they will know how awesome these roads are. (National Speed limit, awesomely windy, perfectly smoothish B roads)
The 17" Alloys make such a massive, massive difference, despite the poor tyres. It is honestly like having a new car. The AP coilovers, which I was considering swapping for some KWs were flawless and the S3 brakes put up with some major abuse, not fading at all.
Dave's (PDT) stage2 remap allows you to absolutely tear up the road, whilst allowing smooth acceleration all through the rev range.
I'm not sure why I'm writting this, because all I have done is driven my car. But I'd certainly reccommend taking advantage of the good weather and get out there! :signLOL: :driver:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8144%2F7632270576_e90ceeea51_z.jpg&hash=751eb8bccb774ccf709a1a56100338f35299019f)

Great Route :driver:
-
Drives like that are just
-
So have you any plans to put decent rubber on the 17s?
-
I certainly do! In the dry, they cope well and give good signs when they will let go.
In the wet, they should be illegal, despite nearly having full tread.
Not sure what tyres to go for. I've always liked Eagle F1s but I personally found the wear rate terrible.
-
Sounds like you are loving how the car drives mate, which is what mods is all about!!!! improving the car!! loving the car keano, really is special!! :happy2: how would you compare the standard pescaras to 17 monzas?? i may give this a try myself when wanting a decent drive :driver:!!!!
-
I know those roads :innocent: ... In fact i did them on saturday night after filling up at the Shell garage on in balby. I went down to the tesco... loversall, Wadworth, tickhill, bawtry. Managed about 19mpg.
BWAAAAAAAP! :driver:

Hm. Can't quite remember the how different they would be as I had the big ass LM's in-between. I imagine the 17s will be similar, if not slightly better with overall feel.
One big difference I noticed with the large tyres on the 17s (225/45/17) it feels alot smoother
-
Possibly the shiniest red car I've ever seen!
-
Nice ride mate
-
You went so fast the plate fell off....must have been all them flies.
BTW I've seen Nick's car at PDT, so well aware he runs 'sans fronto platte'.

In a similar situation to Rich now! Still stuck on which colour. Thinking either a nice bright silver or anthracite. Hmmmmmmm.
Also still having hub troubles. Turns out that rebore-ing hubs isn't ideal. So guess I do need 2 more :(
-
White wheels look good on a red car :-)
-
keano- are you still running the ap coilovers?
just wanting to know have you taken out both of the rear adjusters on the rear? or just one of the adjuster rings?
mine is sitting a little higher than yours and now im on the LM's i wanna get it sat like yours for harewood

They are different rear springs mate. Bought them from Patrick from here. However both adjusters are out. I'm just using the OEM rubber spring holder thing :happy2:
-
Nothing's ever easy ha! Typical.
How do you find the ride with the adjusters out? Is it noticeable?

Using ap springs without adjusters are fine. The springs I'm using on the other hand are terrible

Ah right like that are they! We'll see what it looks like at vw harewood then. Did I see your name on the clubstand?

So I sat at the pool bar and ordered some FK highsport coilovers and a superpro gear box mount haha

How come your changing coilovers nick? Interested in seeing if the gearbox mount insert makes much difference :)
-
Few reasons really. I'm having an issue with something at the front end. It sounds like I'm driving with a ballast full of water sloshing about. After changing everything else it leads to a knackered coilover unit.
Its also getting increasingly harsh on the road so I presume it's on it's way out.
There is also a lot more adjustability with the FKs so it seems, so I'll be able to drop the front end more :)

Will you be selling ur all coilovers?
-
I have highsports and they are very, very good for the money. You will be pleaseed when you get them on :happy2:
-
I'd really like to get some coilys but there are so many things putting me off.
I love my H&R springs with the standard shocks but I really love to go a little lower.
I suppose I'm worried about the ride comfort and rubbing. At the moment with the H&R's the ride is great and there's no rubbing at all. I don't want to buy some coilys, have em fitted, then realise I want go back to the springs.

my friend has h&r ultralows on his mk5 gti and it rides way nicer than mine and ive got the same set up as you.

Really???
Hmmm, there's a guy on the forum selling some...I'm sooo tempted.

Really???
Hmmm, there's a guy on the forum selling some...I'm sooo tempted.
yeah very smooth and not crashy or bouncy at all.
I'd do them myself but I think my car looks to sit a bit lower than yours at the front so im happy with my stance at the moment.. and the ultralows are about £1k i think plus fitting and I wouldnt even run them THAT much lower than what i have now so complete waste of money for me.
If anything I'm gonna get the bilstein dampers next
-
Im in the same situation as you guys, running h&r springs on oem shocks, height and ride quality fine, but one of shocks on way out, trying get some funds together get decent set coilivers, really dont want hard trashy ride i have had it on precious car nothing worse :stupid:, seems to me wont get alot change out of £750-£1000 for decent set, and then you have no guarantee its right for you. Be interesting to hear how you get on with your new set keano ( fk highsport ) :happy2:
-
Has the gear box bush made much of a difference?
I have mine waiting to go on, but I've heard mixed reviews??
Need an edition 30 splitter in my life!!

Okay. Managed to have the FK Highsports fitted the other weekend. :jumpmove: After a weeks use, please find a small, unbiased write up....
For the people who said that the ride is just like stock, you clearly have underlying numbness in your back and I suggest you have it checked by a qualified doctor, as these coilovers are far from comfortable. However, saying that, what should you expect from a coilover unit that can drop 100mm and cost less than £400 brand new?
To compare them to the APs that I had on previously, I would say they are slightly softer, however, I guess the APs had some underlying damping issues from extensive use.
They absorb bumps in the road slightly better, but they do have a fair bit more body roll as a result.
The drop on these bad boys are insane. If you wanted to, I imagine you could have the front bumper pretty much sat on the floor, as I have about 2.5 to 3 inches further room to wind them down!
Price. Hmmm. I guess £370 isn't too bad of a price in order to set the car at what ever height you like. They are by no means top of the range, ding dang dooly, swing swong swishers, ping pong panger, ting tong tingly coilover units that could be used extensivly on track, but I suppose they are more than suitable for fast road use and getting down with the gangstaz at a show at the weekend.
Would I buy them again? - Probably...yeah.
-
Where can I buy some of these swing swash swishes, they sound the dogs. :jumping:
-
The look you get for under £400 is Amazing Keano but I feared that the ride would be harsh!
Air-ride sounds like your best option, but for the money, the FK's certainly score Very high in the looks department
The stance in the photo is Awesome :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
-

Haha. Special order only
Had some 215/35/18 tyres show up today for the front of the LMs :scared: :scared:

Ha thanks Rex :happy2:
Fitted the 215/35 tyres. They have gotten rid of all the rubbing issues on the front, however they look quite hilarious. Literally rubber bands so they mayyyyy need to be swapped again lol :innocent:
Surprisingly good ride though, I was expecting a much crashier ride...

Today I decided that it was time to reinstate the summer wheels with some added stupid rubber
Having been sat in the garage for a month (unwashed) my first task was to give them a good seeing to with some Iron-X and Gtechniq.

In hind sight, I probably wouldn't have put 215/40 tyres on a 9" wheel as the ride is garbage  However, I have managed to gain alot more rear clearance and wind the coileys down a touch :happy2:
-
Looking good mate! Nice stretch on the back now! Most will call it daft but its my cup of tea :happy2:

prefer those to the LM's in im honest :happy2:
-
Very good job! Surprised you did it with the tyres on! But looking good, still love the look of those lm's! But wouldn't want to run them in the winter either!
-
Cant wait to see the squared wheels on the car i was looking at them for my mk5, they are a good price too.
-
John from Squared called over earlier to test fit the SC1's. They are the first set to ever fit a MK5 Golf.
They weigh an awesome 10.5kg and are 18x8.5 in a 35 offset (others available)
These are the same wheels Jonny Cocker is sporting on his TTRS.
What do you think?

At a glance I'd have said they're 19x8.5 too, got a strong visual presence in the arches :pomppomp:

They look really good and love the colour of them

Nahh I was definitely speeding. It's that 40mph dual carridge way near Wickes/fire station/straight mile.
Lucky I wasn't going any quicker. :scared:

Ive blasted down there at untold speed before at night time.... will be more carful when im around there.

46 in a 40! They allow 10% and 1mph over (45mph), so you were VERY unlucky!

eeh, and how much penalty do u have to pay?

New wheels look good mate - what size boots...

Awesome ride mate, think im a little in love!
Painfully, I don't like the LM's on this tho, Squared or Prescara's look a million times better!
This is also probably the first GTi i've seen that looks better minus the tints... :happy2:
Good Work!
-

bbs always does the job!

Liking the wheels mate
-
Love the wheels mate, Was speaking to the squared guys at UD last year and the wheels they make are so nice.

Proper gutted for you mate, didn't you get hold of the little feckers? :fighting: :fighting:
-
Anyone got any idea on sump cost/fitting?
Excess is £500  :sad1:
-
Fitting wouldnt be difficult, its something that you could do on the drive at home with a jack and axlestands, worst comes to worst a local garage shouldnt charge anymore than an hour or 2 to change that, providing the damage is no further than just a sump
-
If its just the sump I bet its about £100+ for a new one.
-
PM damo sure he had to change his sump not so long ago, check his build thread
-
Gutted :sad1:
I had a new sump fitted last month by a vag specialist and it was £180.00 fitted (Using genuine parts)
Mines a tdi but i would think they'd be a similar if not the same price
-
Nick, I've got a sump in the shed but its got a pin hole in it. Could prob get it welded for peanuts....
You can have it for £50 :happy2:
-
I have a sump with no defects, trouble is postage from Denmark is very expensive :sad1:
-
Part numbers for you mate, may come in handy
06F103601L For the sump
D176404A2 VAG Sump sealant
N90813202 Sump nut
Id make sure for sure that the oil pump aint been starved, but I dont think you will find out till u box it all back together
Sump retails at £130 plus, if you know some one in TPS they should be able to sort some discount out for u, or if your local I dont mind getting you the parts organised

Turns out the debris was caused by 3 families of the
pikey twat travelling community having a feud. (Essentially just smashed each others cars/vans/houses up)
I had a call from a police officer this morning saying that there were at least 5 other cases of my nature that night and CID are now involved. However I can't see anything more coming of it to be honest. So I guess this time round, I'll foot the repair bill. (Again).
P.s. despite being a member for 8 years, the AA kindly requested £110 to pick me up. I kindly requested they cancel my membership.
Thanks everyone for the support, advice and part numbers :drinking: :happy2:

Excuse the possibly impertinent question but are your xenons OEM units? I've seen some after-market copies that I believe some people are fitting with HID kits.
I've been looking for a set of Xenons all year, been stiffed for £450 by a bent seller on Pistonheads (police investigation still on-going) and I know how much better they perform than Halogens and of course, look the dogs too. My search continues! Your car looks ace BTW.

They took a while to 'bed in' and scrub the initial slippery layer off, but yeah they're alright for what I put the car through.

The armrest is one of those things you think you dont need... but when I drive a car without one I really miss it.

-
Are they front mounted Andy? From what I understand, they replace the gti one that is situated behind the grotty radiator?
-
It is Nick but what i have read they are good for up to 500bhp cars--am getting one put on my sooty in may--There is the forge one that bolts to the front

Correct... but that is still classed as a FMIC. The S3 one is fine, and IMO better than adding a forge twintercooler.

The below link is mine, Didint want to post the picture up and spoil the build thread

Its a Autobahn88 kit with a uprated intercooler (the kit supplied one was fine but me replaced after a brick end hit it and damaged the cosmetics of it)
-
I fitted an airtec twinspec front mout to mine keano, it's black but you could get silver. Pics are in my build thread if you can find it mate :happy2:

:notworthy:very nice
-
Does anyone know how long it will take to fit this bad boy? :drinking:
-
Well if you plan to fit it to your chest, your looking at a complex operation, probably 4 Surgeons and a questimate of 8 hours in theatre. Then you have to get used to all the anti rejection drugs but thats another thread. :innocent:
If however you are fitting it to your car then about 2 hours + another 4 hours cutting the pipes to size. :pomppomp:
-
To fit mine and cut pipes start to finish was about 3 hours by myself. Take your time with pipes :happy2:

Thanks Dan. Any idea how to mount the horns without the relocation brackets? :(
-
It's only a little L shaped bracket so you might be able to fashion one up. Ill see if I've got a pic dude. What colour pipes you got?
Just looked and the passenger horn attaches to bracket already there and drivers side using a straight metal bracket. Got a pic of both. Ill post them in here for you when I get a min :happy2:
-
Put a little bit of effort into cleaning up the 2nd hand twintercooler.
I never realised what a pain aluminium is to work with!!!
I ended up polishing back the end tanks and top as best I could by hand with brasso and autosol. For the core, I removed as much tarnish as possible, masked off the shiny bits and sprayed with high temp silver paint.
Could be better. Could be worse.

:ashamed: don't worry Richardo, I have read one thread on a supra forum done extensive research into this.
It really is just a thin layer on the front core. I can't see it being a problem, especially with me using BHP paint! It should give me 100 boost powers for the wet bitches.

Not a problem, We painted the intercooler matt black before I fitted it on my Saab 9-3 Aero project last year.
IAT's where never and issue even after several WOT runs when we where live road mapping the car, Typically on a 10 Degree day the IAT's after the intercooler never went above 18 Degree's :)
It was a 600mm x 300mm x 75mm core I might add!
Cheers
-
The problem with the Twintercooler is the stone chips.

Wheels been sent off for Powdercoating in an über bright silver. :pomppomp:
Intercooler has made a vast improvement. Seems to pull a lot stronger at the top end and the chatter from the intake is twice as loud! :innocent: low end torque has been affected abit though, it's quite tedious not having the low down pull if you are in the wrong gear. I.e. breezing round a roundabout. :chicken:

Yeah that's to he expected, as you are increasing the volume of the boost system.
So the ITG must be deafening then? :signLOL:

Stunning motor :notworthy:
I done exactly the same as you have to the A4 rear bumper about 16 months back and it still looks as good as the day it was done, Plastidip is really easy to work with isn't it.
-
exactly how the edition 30 rear bumper should have come from the factory :happy2:
whats the specs of the wheels??
-
Wheel specs are:
18x8j with a 42offet :)
As I've always said to the mrs, it'd be nice if they were just an inch wider :signLOL:
-
if it was me id lower it a little bit more, camber the rears and stick a 5mm spacer on the back
car looks awesome for being red :signLOL:
-
Looks unreal on those BBS wheels !
-
What discs are those?
-
I'm in love :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed: What an asss :D

Looks good! Dibs on ed30 rear.
-
R32 rear for me
-
Ed30 for me as it just looks perfect but i would never sell the ed30 rear as it's rare unlike the common r32 but use both if it's an easy change over exhaust wise so best of both worlds
-
Did you come all the way down to EMP for the exhaust?
-
R32 for me, but to be different I would've got a different zorst trim to keep the existing zorst rather than an R32 zorst, still looks good tho :happy2:
-
Nick,
Your car just keeps getting better and better!
Matt
-
Pm'd :happy2:
-
R32 rear looks spot on!
Be interested to know if you did get the exhaust done at EMP because they're just down the road from me. Heard a lot of good things about their custom exhausts.

I know the main man and indeed quite a few of the people that work their/his mates. They do do quality work and have a contract with PowerFlex exhausts. Dave has just returned there aswell.
I hear alot of good things too, however also some bad. For some reason they seem to want to keep the Top Gear name - don't know why as the whole reason why it changed was because Top Gear had such a poor reputation. Just watch the money! They are good at what they do, however a BCS was more suited to my need.
-
Looks brill mate!! He had the exhaust done at topgear in Doncaster :happy2:
-
Few little winter bits:
Had some lovely Milltek tips fitted the other day
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.staticflickr.com%2F3766%2F11499208753_d76acf8cc8_c.jpg&hash=14d9e2df1ad62acfdecc23a975c7230421532501)
Also had a major leak on the rear shockers so I've replaced with some Bilstein b8s ;) :)

Looks lovely mate :happy2:! Out of interest where did you source the miltek tips from??Been looking for some for a while now.
-
A friend of mine donated them pal. He had some blue titanium ones put on his R32 instead.
Try emailing milltek themselves. :happy2:
-
Looking excellent Nick
-
Those that know me personally may know that I had one of my BBS centre screws fly off on the motorway.
After 3 months of being in a bad mood and scouring the interwebz for weeks -a genuine cap finally turned up from Germany today!
Now just to get it powdercoater and get the SuperSports fitted. :pomppomp:

PMd mate :happy2:
-
Mwahaha. I am back from the dead!!
Would anyone care to swap some Pescaras or VZs for my lovely BBS RSII's? :jumpmove:
-
If only they were wider!
New plans or selling up?
-
Heyup!
-
Hello Nick
good to see you back on here
-
did you only swap the rears to B8's? Hows the ride?
-
Hay Nick :happy2:
What's the size and offset of the RSll's and are they still in minty fresh condition?
-
Still minty fresh! you know me!
They are 8j x 18. Offset I believe is 45.
Not wanting to put the car back to standard - just fancy a set of pescaras or Vz's again for a change.
They come with all genuine BBS bolts, genuine BBS centre caps and genuine 3 piece centres.
-
Are you mad???? :rolleye: wheels look ace
-
