Can anyone help with this noise?
This is a rotational noise that only happens at slow speeds like parking/ backing out of driveway etc
The noise happens only when the car is moving and turning the steering wheel at the same time

Mine does this, but I'm yet to identify it. I'm hoping its the top mounts, and not the steering rack.

@neilw (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18518)
Mines been into a garage with no faults found.
I’ve since put new top mounts on and drop links.
I reckon its the rack, solid no play, but wanted some opinion’s

Hiya.. just listened to your video... the noise was different to mine. I didn’t get it while turning the wheel. Mine was more from uneven road sirfaces at low to moderate speeds. It doesn’t mean to say it might not be the tack. If all is replaced and all thats left is the rack its a big possibility.
Rip.

Cheers mate, interesting........the search continues but as you say it could still be the rack.
Anyone know any links to “how too’s“ on removal/refitting racks on mk5’s?

I'll start saving my pennies.....

Just for reference, my local independent quoted £600-650 for a new rack & alignment.

I've got a combination of this noise when turning.. the CV's clicking when moving at a full lock and when I press the brake pedal a louder clank/thud sound... i'll be interested to see what you guys find out.
Keep us posted !

The brake clunk is probably the subframe

I originally thought cv joint but garage said it was all fine.
Really annoying me, feels like I’m driving an old van
