Title: MC's R
Post by: MC71 on June 19, 2017, 04:22:00 pm
:pomppomp::pomppomp: :pomppomp:    VW Mk7 Golf R DSG  Lapiz Blue   :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

If you're sitting comfortably I shall begin, once upon a time.....

.......and after many MANY months of issues involving dodgy paint and electrical gremlins I now have the car I wanted in the first place. Nothing much has happened since I've had the car, re mods, due to these problems so just a few bits and pieces here and there so far.

As for the 7R itself, with all the choice within my £25k budget, did I make the right choice? IMHO yes I did. Even in its standard form with 300bhp it's such a great car, so easy to live with in town traffic, cruising on a motorway or having fun around the twisty bits.

Yes the 7R is a common sight on the roads but that made it affordable to buy but it's prevalence doesn't detract from it being an brilliant car and an all round, everyday car that ticks pretty much every box for me. There are peeps who say they won't own one purely because they're everywhere and the lack of exclusivity that brings...well good for them.

(DISCLAIMER:- I'm not counting anyone who has ordered/owns/or wants a GTI Clubsport as I drove one the other day and that was just cracking and on my list for the next cat.

              =====================================

A few problems!!!

I only had her a wee while before she was taken away for the first time with elecrical problems which showed up all over the place with random Start/Stop issues, EPC light appearing constantly followed by limp mode and even door module issues and a wing mirror housing that overheated and plastic part started to bubble up as if it were going melt ....go figure. VW fixed it all (lots of new wiring, some new parts inc every single part inside the door and a new wing mirror) but not under warranty (although they went above and beyond in sorting things) but that's another story.

Then during this time (if that were not annoying enough) paint started to peel from the car in several places. She'd been in the bodyshop TWICE but new problems with paint started to appear so In the end they decided the constant "fixing" wasn't working so a decision was made to give the car a full respray, only parts that were left were the roof and the boot, everything else was stripped back to bare and resprayed. I cheekily asked if they could give her a complelty different colour but alas I'd of had to pay the difference which was ££££ as she would need to stripped to a shell and added another 2 weeks plus to the process......(you gotta try).

To say I'm chuffed with their work and (to be fair) the response of the garage I purchased her from, and for their part VW, is an understatement. She's now better than the sh*t you usually get when buying a brand new car. After a full professional detail she will look the shizzel (as the kids say).

Ohh and they kindly re cut the face of the wheels, thry look like new too!!

As I've said before if all I have to worry about in life is a car I'm a very lucky man indeed......which I am.

Pics below of the 2 worst areas although there were more places with paint problems. Made me chuckle when a bodyshop guy said "f*ck me, look at that!"

Moving along and drawing a line under that lot.....

         =========================================

Bits and bobs and mini mods...

First off I bought some Black decals/vinyl stickers from Badgeskins ~~Clicky here~~ (http://www.badgeskins.com) and put those on the front and rear R badges and also the side blades, then the front and rear VW chrome emblems were removed and the backings were painted in Lapiz blue and then new Gloss Black VW emblems were added, still not sure about the front one with a Lapiz backing but it stays for now, will probably go back to black.

Then I de chromed the rest of the front end re grill and splitter with Gloss Black vinyl wrap. I also just had delivered a RIEGER front splitter and MAXTON side skirt diffusers so that's a job for my next day off (with help) Also swapped the chrome wing mirror covers and replaced them with Gloss Black ones.

I put a shortened number plate on the rear and still need to remove the front number plate plinth and have the holes plastic welded and painted over so I have a smooth front end (will use double sided suction cups on the number plate after that as I did on the Eddy) but I've had enough of bodyshops at mo so that can wait. I also put on Gloss Black Eyelids just to add a little extra Black to the party (as if I hadn't added enough ). I may also have the roof wrapped...not sure yet.

Gloss Black mirror covers (from VW main dealer).....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2FDCBB5571-7CD8-46D2-B272-4ED98D8FCE70_zpsgrm7t7ic.jpg&hash=dea1843082367314799b1301b2b5248bf188b967)

Gloss Black Eyelids (from Aliexpress)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2F3937ff2a53254c048d689cdf80e7e43f_zpssm5cxsml.jpg&hash=2e6b6a8f5d1609420e0f47ae02996a89d2d64d93)

and in place....

The front grill separated into its component parts, that's was a faff to do...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2Fd8c9e474f67f1d7046febf0aeca439ba_zpsejimjn8s.jpg&hash=fe7a9fa8326019fd3241a672d2c4b8d88cca07f6)

I bought a pair of Gloss Black front and rear VW emblems (below) from eBay, pretty good quality and cheap plus they fit so a win win win. Luckily the rear one comes with a separate backing plate so no need to remove the whole handle/mech (a PITA of a job) for painting.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2Fd972ae74414c26d4e654d975e0bd2ac9_zpsezmamkkq.jpg&hash=4ae1bd952f18a6560a29d7b78e2ee8ace30a0f3e)

I needed some Lapiz Blue spray paint for the rear backing sections for both the front and rear emblems so a trip to the Halfords special paint mix peeps and all good. Who'd have thought so many colours to make just one....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2Fffe43252ca228a757d933585ee3b9d88_zps3mgquvoz.jpg&hash=df72398bde8dbb7ab41b3f4613596804b89bc87b)

All put back together and the various bits wrapped and/or painted as required and badgeskin fitted to the R and new VW Emblem in place.....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs399%2Fmcaborn%2Fab1b52b7c0a31530cb312a2cca481b75_zps2cfq8jrt.jpg&hash=2f538bf8685a3b7008f5b5542823aa0aa50fc733)

Gloss Black RIEGER front splitter

I bought this from RIEGER from itectuning, link below (they do lots of bits for the Mk5 and Mk6 too if anyone's interested). it's just a single skin piece of flexible plastic, feels like a puff of wind will shatter it.......It cost £250 but considering the sh*t Chinese ones are £100 and the OETTINGER splitter is £750 (excluding paint) its about right. Now I have her back I can get this fitted.

MAXTON Gloss Black Side Skirts. (Link to their website below). Also not a lot to these, pretty flexible and another less than substantial item for £150. Also a fair few options re side skirt extensions/difussers.

Black Climair Wind Deflectors.

I always liked the ones I had on my Eddy so bought them for the 7R even before I picked up the car (link to their website below)...

How she looks now. I've replaced the Black VW emblems at the mo to the Chrome ones.....can't decide?

  ======================================

As for modding my 7R a stage 1 map is the next call with associated supporting mods, some decent wheels and a few other aesthetic bits and pieces then at some point I need to decide if I sidestep stage 2 and go to Stage 3 with a hyprid turbo due to the weak OEM turbo but will take advice from those who know. There seems little point spending £3k on a full sport TBE (or even a DP) and intercooler and not being able to wind up the power and torque for fear of the OEM turbo shredding itself into the engine........all thoughts for another day.

I've FINALLY re booked into AKS to get a few bits and pieces put on to aid air flow.....a VW Racingline R600 Intake, TT Inlet pipe, VW Racingline Turbo Muffler Delete and also a GFB DV+ and probably having a REVO stage 1 map and DSG map. May get a custom tune when/if I go stage 3 but REVO are now devolping one along with a stage 2 DSG maps so we shall see.

Any comments, likes or dislikes then please feel free to spam away.

Look forward to this one given how meticulous you were with the Eddy. Though that paint peel is absolutely shocking, especially for the top of the range model! :scared: Glad you got it sorted in the end though!

Shame you've had so much hassle Martin  but you've turned it around so 10/10 to you.

I do like your thread builds as there highly educational and honest and show great thought. I look forward to following it stage by stage, not for purchasing one, just the journey and the attention to detail, whilst still keeping it as a daily vehicle not a show piece.

So happy you've got the car back. What a nightmare you've had. Looking forward to the updates, based on your last car.

The bad fortune looks pretty rotten, glad you stuck with it MC  :happy2:

Surely be worth it now and further down the line...
It's certainly looking very worthy.

I could just imagine some black or even grey 19" Turini's on the 7R  I've only ever seen them on the latest but one Megane Trophy and it seemed the design was ever so slightly different to the ones we ran in 18x8, but the idea has stuck with me ever since  :drinking: Although no doubt, they'd only be available in Renault bolt fitment. Doh.

Cheers fella.

As for the wheels.......yes I've looked for 19" Turinis but with no luck in correct fitment. Wheels are the next thing that need sorting (along with decent rubber).

There's a lot of choice out there and I've narrowed it down to these 5 below in these colours. Budget is around £2k ish inc' tyres.

OZ Leggera HLT 19x8 ET45 in Gold, the Neuspeed Rse102 19x8.5 ET45 in Matt Anthracite or Hyper Black, VOSSEN CVT 19x8.5 ET45 in Gloss Graphite or the REVO rv019 19x8.5 ET45 in Gloss Bronze.

Only consideration really is at some point they will need to house a BBK and I fancy 19" wheels as they fill the archers better than the 18" and some slightly wider wheels will also help with stance etc. Leaning towards the Neuspeed due to the 8.5" width and they are very light at around 9kg IIRC but the REVO are also pretty light and the cheapest at £1200. Also love the VOSSEN a lot but not sure if they will happily fit a BBK within them due to their concave nature although I've seen pics of 8 Pot calipers fitted, not sure if that was straight forward or not.

I caught the back end of your ed30 thread when I joined. That was a sorted car - and no doubt gave quite a few people on here lots of ideas..

I've got to agree with you (just) about the 'yes, 7R's are everywhere, but...' argument. I think the anti-R argument holds more weight if you're comparing standard with standard. As in a standard R against a standard PP/Clubsport. Got to be a fwd car at ~300/300 or less.

But a well-modded R changes the rules. This is taking shape how I'd imagine I'd do things myself. It won't look like all those bog standard (mostly white) Rs that you don't even bother giving a nod to nowadays because you just know it aint one of us driving. It won't fall behind a tuned TFSI on the road either once you're mapped. Simple Stage 1 and you're up there. Hybrid and beyond... truly fast.

Anyway, my point is:

Standard 7R - hmmm.

Properly modded 7R - leagues above most 'normal cars'.

Final point, as I'm waffling. I like the fact you've done the eyebrows black. As in, you're not trying to make them look like part of the bonnet (Max Power Nova GSI flashback), but part of the headlights. I like this.

I liked your last car. I think I'll like this.

Thanks @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926)

I genuinely agree with on the "R argument". For me I had a list of boxes to tick and the cars that ticked them were the 7R, the new RS3 and (possibly) S3 but I love my Golfs so it was never really a choice. RS3 was, and is, a better base to start from but I'd of had to PCP it and it doesn't sit well with me modding it then.

As for the Clubsport.....I prefer their looks, really do. Plus it's a belter to drive.....possibly my next car.

The eyebrows? I love em!! A real marmite mod. I think they add a litlte definition to the lights.

The eyebrows work mate, definitely. Helps that the lights are dark. Adds just a tiny bit extra to the frowny look.

Will look forward to your updates!

Great to see you back Martin and all issues sorted.

Car looks great from the front, the eyebrow work well and give it some attitude. Can see the dilemma with the front badge the chrome seems to tie in nicely with the headlights.

Will keep watching with intrigue, think once you get some nicer wheels on it will transform once again. Keep up the good work  :congrats:

Can't decide on the front emblem or and its backing. So far I've gone from stock, to black on black, black on blue, chrome on blue and now back to stock....

All the other chrome trim has gone from EVERYWHERE so not sure if black on black is too much.

Revo wheels in Gloss Bronze  :congrats: :congrats:

Glad that the issues have not resulted in getting rid of the car!!

The shortened number plate - is it road legal as I can make some form details in the usual places. I only ask as I have a similar 6 digit plate which I have to change each mot.

^^^^ @Frodo-anni (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1034)

I'm warming to the REVO wheels......Gloss Bronze or Gloss Anthracite. May speek to @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) *cough cough* and see if he can get them any cheaper than I can.  :innocent:

I came close to selling the car (impossible as it stood) or trying to get my money back but it never came to that. I'm now completely up to date on consumer law....is all I'll say!

Yes the shortened plate is legal, as long as the digits are the correct size, they are spaced correctly, has correct space around all edges (11 mm from edge of plate to outer side of digit in any direction) and the plate carries the correct legal BS marks a (which mine does) then all good....

Hey Martin,

It's about time you started a thread on this one. The R's looking AMAZING! I'm glad you stuck with it - it looks all the better for it :)

I still remember when you took me and my cousin out for a ride - what a machine! I can only imagine how much quicker / fun it will be when you're done with it!

Thanks,

Hope all's well with you. May see you at a meet sometime.

I'm hoping for a big step up, in both performance and fun, once she's modded and mapped to just stage 1. My stage 2+ Eddy was 360+ bhp so I'm still 20% down on the old girl there but the 7R feels as fast with only 300bhp and is a lot more planted and sure footed thanks to the VW 4WD system..........and all with the sh*tty ditch finder tyres the previous owner had fitted!!

Great to hear from you Martin,

Sorry to hear of the difficulties in your Mk7R ownership - that paint is truly shocking! Glad to hear it has been sorted to your standard in the end. There is an R in Lapiz blue just round the corner from me. Looks nicely understated under clouds, and then when there's sun - what a belting colour!

As for the wheels - I do like the design of the Revo wheels, but the Oz's look best to me. Pretoria like, but subtlety better...  Clio Williams look is great - it may work very well on the R, but I'd be a wuss and go with anthracite or bright silver. So many choices...!

+1 on the gold on blue Williams look. Needs to be a subtle gold though.

Thanks @Dave J (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6566)  :happy2:

Yeap, got there in the end. The Lapiz is gorgeous (and IMHO the only colour an R should be) and the new respray def has more flecks in it....looks amazing in full sunlight.

Agree with you and @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) with the wheels.....I've been pinging a few emails to VMR (velocity motoring) in the US of A about a set of their 19" v701 wheels in either a custom finish of Bronze Burst or Sunken Treasure (both very similar to each other) as I've always loved them but needed the right colour car to put them on. Looking like a faff at the mo but you never know....patience is my mantra after recent events!

Found a few VMR distributor in the UK, all are BMW tuning/aftermarket parts companies. Even though the VMR wheels are direct fit for both BMW and/or VAG there appears to be no UK dealer for the VAG fitment wheels....no biggy. I've Requested a price for the 19" v701s in my specs in standard Gun metal and both the custom colours above (for comparison) so you never know.

That would be a great stable....6R and a 7R. That'd be a hard choice which one to take out for a blast....1st world problems though!!

She's had her 1st wash since returning from the bodyshop after the respray.

Only a hand polish with Zaino Z-5 PRO Show Car Polish and only just 1 coat of Dodo Juice Blue Velvet Pro Wax so far......the paintwork looks great and the flake in the Lapiz Blue really pops so should look amazing after a proper DA polish......

Gorgeous. I know photos don't really do Lapiz much justice, so I can imagine this is stunning in the flesh. I like how it almost goes purple in lower light, too. Undoubtedly the best 7R colour!

Looking forward to the wheel updates. I've always liked the y-spoke VMR wheels, like the 710, but on a mk7 - if you fill the space behind the spokes with big enough brakes - designs like the 701 really work.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with my car....just a pic of my latest grandson, Oscar.

.......(although kinda car related) Mrs MC told me to buy a car seat for the little fella for when she is looking after him so £270 later I have the Recaro Guardia Car seat with ISOFIX Base (sold seperatly, the money grabbing buggers). Lots of different colours available so able to get one that matches the interior of my R.

This is going to be a annoying with a 3 door, thought I was over all this hassle years ago, DOH!!!  :signLOL: :signLOL:

New wheels, tyres and bolt covers all turned up over last few days. Decided on the REVO RV019 (19" X 8.5" ET45) in Gloss Anthracite, I bottled out on buying gold wheels.  After a few coats of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant the wheels, and the paint flake, look immense so I'm happy with the choice of wheels and colour.

Apart form looking good and being pretty light for 19" rims (10 Kg) the REVO wheels will give 16mm more poke over the OEM Cadiz wheels so a much better stance and loads of room for a BBK when I get round to that.

As for tyres, for years I've run Goodyear Eagle tyres but after many peeps praising Michelins I bought a set of 19" Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for the new wheels. Not the cheapest tyres I've ever bought though!

Will post a few pics of them on the car at the weekend once fitted along with (hopefully) the Rieger front splitter, MAXTON side diffusers and MAXTON rear spats/splitters.

Yeap a BBK will be along as some point. The current 7R front calipers will ok for stage 1 so no rush there, as for lowering.....its on the list somewhere but not the top.....a smidge more power next.

As for the wheels......I'm just not brave enough!  :sad1:

My brother has some (well and truly) used 18" TD 1.2s that im going to take and use when I do track days so will get them refurbd in a bright lary colour, maybe gold.

That's a great update - I must admit the Revo wheels do look good in that colour. Very distinguished. Would still love to see how a light gold looks, but it's different when it comes to actually doing it on your own car, I'm sure!
Good to see you're enjoying the R - what does stage 1 bring?

^^^^ Cheers!  :drinking:

I had a good look at the Clubsport S today, they've one at a local performance car specialist just down the road from me....Bramley Motor cars. Bloody gorgeous and has a real presence, looked stunning in black. Only 150 in the UK and the few that are still for sale are around the £40k mark. It's a FWD, 2 seat track car with many upgrades over the Clubsport and only available in 3 dr manual, most without air can too apparantly...all saving weight. I think I'd be after a more track focuses BBK personnally, not sure why they didn't go the parts bin and bolt on the TTRS calipers.

If I had £40k to spend and was after a 2 seat performance car which I could take on track would I buy this.....not a chance!! I'd be disappearing down the road in my 2nd hand 911.

I looked at the RS5....amazing car and that 4.2 engine with 440bhp on tap and that sound...WOW!! I couldn't justify the extra £5K+ over mine (for a semi decent example) but if ever I see one I think "you lucky barstewards".

I was having a nosey about there the other day and although it's probably a bit more bland, you can get an '14 Audi S3 nearly full spec (no sunroof) for the same price as a 7R Both 14k miles both £20k. Very tempting considering it's looks.

There's a load of examples of the E92 M3 (cheap ones automatic, more expensive manual) and the noise of those V8's with the M performance exhaust and an intake is next level, but will deafen you on cold start if you stand outside it  :rolleye:

Fitted the front Rieger Splitter, Maxton side diffusers and also the rear Maxton splitters/spats.....all Gloss Black. Am happy with how it all ties together now. I'm nearly done with aesthetics, just need to decide on which roof spoiler and a bit more vinyl wrapping on front to do.

Everything you just posted was worth it

 :happy2:

(Also, back to your CS 'S' post, can't help but think you'd just get the regular Clubsport and remove the rear seats then weld some sort of custom bar, too  You'd save about £10k and although the resale value will be just like a normal MK7 GTI, at least you could get DSG  :innocent: )

Thanks.

Completely agree re the CS S. As good as it is it just not worth the money IMHO. I'd def have the Clubsport, add a little power, swap the discs, remove seats/spare wheel, and et voila....a SC S (well nearly)

Update

....a mixed bag today.

Visited young Mr Kerr at AKS (the usual 200 mile round trip, which I do even for a minor service...find someone good, STICK WITH THEM I say) and had fitted a Racingline R600 Intake, Turbo Tecnics Inlet pipe, Racingline Muffler Delete, GFB DV+ and changed the oil to some nice new Millers CFS nanodrive 5w40...all good. R600 is quiet as hell.....not like my old REVO CAI or ITG MAXOGEN days but that's cool and in combination with the other bits seems to give a smidge more (quicker) response on WOT but that could be a placebo effect....who knows. Should also add a few more ponnies to the stable!! Woohooo

Alas I didn't have the REVO stage1 map or REVO DSG map done today as we found a small (seems to be intermittent) leak from the coolant system, probably the water pump so as the car is under warranty I'll get that sorted first before any maps. A delay of a month or two but no rush as this is a long term project.

I've now a better/clearer idea of the direction I'm taking now re future mods, which Hybrid turbo, maps and and also which BBKs to consider for my needs.

I will add a few pics of the fitted mods (and my filthy dirty engine bay) once I take some!!

But for now, the mods......

Turbo Technics Inlet Pipe..

Description (sounds good if nothing else ).....

Free the flow.

The Turbo Technics Large Bore Intake hose for the MQB 2.0TFSI equipped vehicles such as the MK7 Golf GTI, Golf R, 8V S3, Leon Cupra & Octavia VRS replaces the restrictive factory hose.

The Problem:

The factory intake hose has a restrictive diameter and restrictive turbo inlet. Resulting in restricted performance.

The Remedy:

The Turbo Technics Large Bore Intake Hose features a larger diameter from the air intake down to the turbo inlet, with a specially machined from billet bellmouth with a venturi type funnel design to increase airflow velocity into the turbocharger inlet. All of these features result in proven and tangible performance gains.

Simple and quick to install this intake hose will greatly improve the driving experience of any 2.0TFSI equipped MQB car.

Advantages:

Proven Power & Torque Gains on Stock & Remapped Cars - Late 2015 DSG Golf R Stage 1 APR Gained 13TQ & 12HP @ 5000RPM
Less Turbo Lag
Compliments any performance aftermarket intake, but also fits on the stock intake.

Racingline Turbo Muffler Delete..

Link to their site....

~~Clicky here~~ (http://www.racingline-performance.com/vwr-turbo-muffler-delete)

Thier description.....

The VWR Turbo Muffler Delete is a simple and cost-effective upgrade for any MQB-platform car using the 1.8T and 2.0T EA888 TSI engines with the IHI turbo.

Our VWR Turbo Muffler Delete is a sleek single billet design which replaces the restrictive, power-robbing OEM part with a smooth, turbulence free air path exiting the turbo.

What does it do? The standard part is located on the outlet of the turbo compressor and is simply designed to reduce engine bay acoustics. Whilst it subdues the harmonic noises generated by the turbo, it also adds in disruptive turbulence to the airflow right where you don't want it.

By replacing the standard part with our VWR Turbo Muffler Delete, you’ll replace this restrictive section with a straight, uninterrupted piece.  The result: better boost response giving a little more power, all the while being able to actually hear your turbo working.

In my humble opinion and only you can decide, an all-black VW badge will work well because it looks unified with the black grills.

But also black with blue background works visually on your lovely new 7R (I'm not jealous... much!) because there is not a great degree of contrast between the blue and the black - It is more subtle than if there was more contrast (such as red and black for example). However, any two-tone treatment of your VW badge is going to suggest that the owner has been doing homemade mods < It's up to you whether that matters or not.

If I was to swop my highly modified Mk5 GTI for a new car the choices would be very similar to yours : Mk7R, RS3, or Mercedes A45 AMG < Those are the only cars which would offer me similar practicality and performance. BUT I wouldn't get much change from £50k and I don't think that would be wise to hit my savings as an OAP as much as that! So my plan, like yours was, is to keep my throbbin' red chariot. Now I am 70yo it makes more sense to me - I will never drive a pipe-and-slippers car though!

Thanks for your thoughts Robin. I have a set of Gloss Black emblems, I'll put them back on and have a wee look, post a pic and see what peeps think.

If I had your car I'd absolutely keep it (and as you are doing) I'd maintain in, update/replace parts if/when needed and enjoy the hard work you've put into it. There's still not a more sorted Mk5 on this forum.....and driving in your slippers sounds like a good idea!

I reached a point with my Eddy where I had to decide to go all out and have a 4 wheel drive conversion, Big Turbo or Hybrid, coilovers, a bigger big brake kit etc or buy what I ended up buying.
From where my 7R now stands with its new mods on board all I need for a bonkers Stage 3 monster, re parts, is a downpipe, intercooler and Hybrid turbo....THATS IT!! Just so much easier to get how I want with so much less hassle. Won't be cheap but will be fun once finished.

So......

The Engine bay is now clean...that took some time  :ashamed:!! I want to fill that gap at the front in the bay so I've ordered a lower engine cover thingymabob from AwesomeGTI and have also ordered some stickers/decals from Badgeskins for the engine cover emblem and lettering. Once those bits arrive I'll decide on paint for the engine bay bits.....Gloss Black with Matt Black 2 tone combo or just Gloss Black or possibly the lot in Lapiz Blue....hmmm. Also put the Forge caps on...

Trying out some a new snow foam, DoDo Juice Apple iFoam, and it smells lovely. I need to make it a little thicker next time so it sits longer but seems good and did remove a fair bit of the crud and dirt. Also put the Gloss Black emblems back on so will live with them for a while and see if they grow on me....

I love the details that have been added - the spats, splitter, & sill extensions look just OEM, but even better to those of us in the know!

Look forward to hearing about the performance mods once the coolant issue is sorted. Can't believe the space in the MK7 bay compared to the MK5. Does it feel like a bigger car to drive than the MK5?

Re power? As with my Eddy I'd like a usable high powered car. Ideally I'd like a Jekyll and Hyde.......nice and friendly while pottering around town or on a daytrip with my precious grandkids or (when the fancy takes me) as brutal as Mike Tyson on PCP. She won't be near the chaps now running around 600bhp but somewhere between stock and there will be cool.

And the REVO wheels are growing on me, I really like them now. I REALLY wanted the VMR wheels but the specs I was after are no longer in production due to lack of demand....Ho hum. The REVO were a decent price, are light as any other wheel around and have enough room inside for a BBK and to swing at cat....all at the same time.

The Mk7 feels bigger to drive, feels bigger in the cabin and looks a fair bit wider parked up next to a MK5 or Mk6. One thing....the Mk7 R seems to have a shocking turning circle, 3 point turn or more is becoming the norm now while doing a 180 or getting out of tight parking spaces with cars behind you...grrrr.

Tough choice. The Eddy is an epic car. I was told my old Eddy (the Red Mistress) is up for sale......if I could justify having both...
