Title: Retro fitted xenons and aftermarket ballasts..problems
Post by: Gmac on June 10, 2018, 09:10:01 pm
Evening folks..

I’ve put xenons on the car but didn’t come with ballasts, so I got a aftermarket ballast and hid kit off eBay.

I’m now have problems with the dipped beam..sometimes they work sometimes one doesn’t.  Now i’m Thinking it may be down to the ballast that I’ve used.. it’s a 55w one.  So my theory after doing some reading is that perhaps the wiring loom isn’t handling the extra power, as I think oem is 35w?, and this is the reason for random not workings.

Anyone had experience with this sort of scenario?

Ebay hid kit would explain it all tbh, cheap for a reason. If they're genuine units put the genuine parts in, may be expensive but they'll work. If you want to go aftermarket get a proper set up from HIDS4U or emtuning for either xenon or LED conversion.

I would say 35w is best..........and believe you have to update a VCDS setting for having xenon's without shutters or something similar.

Cheers for the replies folks.  I’d like to invest in the genuine ballasts, but would like to know if the randomness of the working/not working is down to the cheap ballasts or the wrong ballasts first.
