Title: Jedi-Knight's Tornado Red 'fully loaded' OEM+ GTI - FOR SALE
Post by: jedi-knight83 on September 22, 2011, 11:55:34 pm
Its funny.. The 'fully loaded' thing was what actually made me look at the advert but to show my friend so we could laugh about how someone else is describing their car as 'fully loaded' when it just has DSG or Nav and nothing else... This one really is fully loaded though.

Anyway.. Hi I'm Nathan and I'm newish. I've posted my car history in the welcome section but though I'd start a thread on this beauty as I get it as perfect as I can and then subtly modify bits.

My previous cars...

Also still got this...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv453%2Fjedi-knight83%2FCar%2520Stuff%2Fth_IMG_1923.jpg&hash=d96d098d7b41cdeb4ab41c00558d10f78b432c15) (http://tinyurl.com/c8fj6t8)

So I picked it up from Glasgow yesterday... and today I spent the whole day cleaning it :) Although it was well looked after by the previous owner it needed a lot of tar removal and inner wheel and arches cleaning.

Before and after of the engine bay
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0693.jpg&hash=9de933d8015931e697b639e8b8a155743c52a0ae)

Wheels before
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0695.jpg&hash=1dfacd2b613f0d1bafd17c8f7b91eb22b45a3931)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0702.jpg&hash=77bf62ddda84f4841e3912ad5f0425720aae7f4c)

During.. with the old tyre dressings and dirt bleeding brown out of the tyres..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0703.jpg&hash=640f82e2c541f806de96de551f5359d69f483501)

And after (note the wheel weights will be removed once the wheels are taken off when I get chance)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0714.jpg&hash=b49da7d9c0afe6cac2cd052d060ceb654a482178)

Car covered in the pre wash detergent which was then pressure rinsed before shampooing and drying.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0705.jpg&hash=528a767c51d005ddfaafcb78a7a041dcac7bdc48)

Now it was clean as in if you wiped your finger on the paint, no dirt would come off.. but there were still lots on bonded contaminates.

See the tar...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0707.jpg&hash=0140af3c44f1d1b5bcba347260814ac5a0ad2328)

Now see it disolving..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0709.jpg&hash=650df083592a24b629261065ce4f15c42db36049)

Car was then given a mild polish and wax. It really needs a full correction but that will have to wait till I have more time..

Exhausts before
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2FDSC_0700.jpg&hash=6f63b9c730115f879884e5b5b2818cdc2ce88c88)

And after

Gonna have the wheels refurbed in anthracite and keep those on over the winter. Will have it remapped too and it needs a bit of paint work too which I'll get done over winter.

Then in the spring it will be on H&R coilovers and 19" BBS CH or CK again in anthracite. A bit of carbon garnishing on the exterior and interior. Talking to someone about a interior retrim as well with either alcantara for the seat inserts or the ED30 cloth.

I used megs de greaser and a bit of APC and then rinsed and dressed with Autoglym supersheen.

Ed front spliter is different and the rear lower section is normally all painted but this has black on the diffuser section which I much prefer

Had all the wheels off today to properly clean inside and also cleaned up and repainted the brake calipers and the hubs and stone guards.

What size spacer you got on the rear there ?  15 or 16mm ?

Chris.

The winter pack would have been heated seats (but they were already there with the full leather) and Headlight washers (but they were already there with the Xenons) so actually all it gave me was heated washer jets and washer fluid low warning light.

The Luxury pack is just elec folding mirrors, auto dimming drivers door mirror, rear reading lights.

The foam is a pre was solution that you spray on the car to start softening the dirt. Its left for a few minutes and then pressure rinsed off. It gets most of the dirt off before you then shampoo the car which minimises the risk of inflicting swirl marks.

10mm on the rear. There was also 10mm on the front but I didnt like the stance it gave the car so I removed them and just run them on the rear.

HAHA thanks... its funny as the only reason I looked at it for sale was because its a pet hate of mine when people call their car fully loaded and its only got 1 or 2 options lol... but this pleasantly surprised me :)

Shh... its going to VW this afternoon to discuss the rust issue ;)

Sits nice and central and not too low which is pleasing. Will keep an eye on it once it's warmed up and cooled a few times to make sure it doesn't slip.

Fitted a revision d diverted valve today. Old one wasn't split but wanted a stronger on there after the remap

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2F6cea47db.jpg&hash=796c8cbb1c34107f09c2ea3f381906b9974bf3f9)

Swapped out the fli trap 12 for an infinity basslink to give a bit more boot space. Ultimate plan is to do a fibreglass build on the left hand side

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2Fa0a22440.jpg&hash=04e616741389402d8dbd318050911b2e8d236865)

Then gave the car a quick wash :)

Latest little goodie :) and RCD510 DAB

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FCar_Stuff%2FGolf_GTI%2F7b3c3d89.jpg&hash=dbbaaa5f7f62eaf055ff59b90c8a2ba9439b0b92)

I've found a great supplier of used / refurbed VW units now at good prices so if anyone needs a new headunit let me know. I'm getting prices on the rns510 but they have loads of the rcd510 and rcd510DAB for around £230-£250 and LOADS of the RCD 310 and RCD 310DAB.

couple of tiny updates to be fitted soon...

Got an aux in kit from Eddie NL :)

Mine doesn't have the pre cut hole on the arm rest so will install it somewhere else

Also got this alpine pdx-2.150 amp. It's going to go under the passenger seat eventually. But waiting to get the rest of the bits first.

Still loving the car. Rubbish MPG though. Most trips long or short, Eco drive or blitz end up about 25-28MPG

Also finally fitted the can gateway so my rcd510 now remembers where i was on the cd card / cd and no battery drain and all the buttons on my MFSW work with the head unit again (not can bus related... i just re coded the head unit while i was doing the canbus)

Hi mate, no I didn't buy it new, I bought it from an old bloke in Manchester, he had a lot if tacky sh*t on it when i got it, chrome headlight covers and door handles, he thought it was great, but I pulled it all off straight away! I must see if i still have a pic of it from then to show you for a laugh! Really cracking car though, I tried to buy it back from George last year, but the import taxes into Ireland made it too expensive at the time, if you are ever selling, let me know, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat....
It was only here in Ireland for a few months and George came over and took it back to Scotland!
Good luck with it, and remember when/if your selling, let me know!

Did it always have the xenons on it too?
I think im planning on keeping it for a while now TBH... at least until a Mk6 :R is cheap enough for me to upgrade to... but will def let you know first if and when I need to sell.

No mate, the car had the quad milltek and skirts etc when I bought it,
As far as I know the car had xenons from the factory, I only had the car a few months when i had to sell it, I had this and an Audi s3 at the same time, had to sell one of them, had both advertised and this sold first unfortunately! Looks great with the ed30 kit, I can assure you it was a well minded car from new, the lad I bought it from kept it meticulously, so did I and then George minded it like a baby too,
Enjoy it, talk to you next year when i come over to buy it!   :happy2:

The mod's you've fitted are exactly what I'd love to do to my car.  Im just worried about the ride quality as its a daily driver.  Has it been affected massively by the improvements you've made.   I don't want to alter the character of the car just improve road holding of the car and reduce the "lean" as you attack a corner

Why didn't you fit a front ARB if I may ask?  I really like the look of your car it looks very nice.

Dont know if your near cambs but your welcome to test it.

Its very slightly stiffer over bumps that standard. but today driving it to be honest it feels like ive already got used to it and didnt notice the extra stiffness.

I think the biggest difference is actually the WALK and the added traction and sure footedness. Its amazing. Car feels far more stable on hard acceleration both straight and around bends.

I didnt do the front ARB because i still wanted a little bit of front roll. From what I read and got from others... front ARB was really only of benefit for track days etc. The WALK up front has improved traction and front end hold round a bend.. no more feeling likes its about to let go and shoot you wide now.

The rear ARB is quite a subtle improvement but an improvement non the less and there is definitely less roll.

Very happy with the upgrade and apart from probably changing a few more of the OEM bushes in the future and MAYBE swapping to the Bilstein B8 dampers... I probably wont play with the suspension anymore now.

So coming up for 10 months ownership and still loving the car. Done about 9000 miles in this time.

Mods list by previous owner (very lucky to have all these bits on already :) )

Ed30 full colour coded body kit with black front splitter and rear diffuser detailing
Ed30 BBS Pescara 18"alloys
Ed30 red stitched handbrake handle
Ed30 gear selector with red stitched gator and 'golf ball' knob

Mods list so far by me:

Milltek cat back non res exhaust £300
Motech Stage 1 remap which was then changed to an R-Tech Stage 1 remap £290 (read here http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,36417.msg572115.html#msg572115)
RCD510DAB headunit £230
new CANBUS £75
AUX 3.5mm input £25
Infinity Basslink Sub £had this for ages
Apline PDX2.150 amp powering the front speakers £150
H&R lowering Springs £300 fitted
H&R rear 24mm Solid ARB £200 fitted
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit £120
MK6 GTI DSG Multifunction red stitched steering wheel £300
'CH' steering controller £115
OSIR GT metal DSG shifters £45
ITG maxogen and new cold air enclosure £350
Genuine BBS CH 19x8j on budget tyres and in need of a refurb £500

Ouch thats £3035 on upgrades  :surprised: :surprised:

The set of BBS CH026 alloys are in the shed at the moment in need of a refurb and tyres. Not sure if I'll end up fitting these or selling them and keeping the Pescaras. Quite like it on the 18s actually.

Only things left that I really want / need is an intake of some kind. Preferably an ITG but i'll settle for a twintake. Would like some ED30 rear lights. And then the paintwork needs doing. Front end respray with rusty arches fixed, boot rust sorted and a few other bits tidied up. And if i see an Ed30 interior I'd like to swap the full leather for the half leather one day too but its last on the list of things to do TBH.

A couple of pics or the latest mods though...

Annoyingly the Mk5 dsg paddge and the Mk6 dsg paddle are a different part as they plug into a different location so I had to strip the mk5 one down to get my OSIR paddles off it and fit to the mk6 bits rather than just swap the whole module over as I was hoping to do.

What a mission getting the downpipe off. How people do this on their drive I've no idea.

Pre cat now knocked out

So coming up for 10 months ownership and still loving the car. Done about 9000 miles in this time.

....And I'm betting that if you still have the car in another 10 months time, you'll still be loving it.  :drinking:

The Mk5 GTI/Ed30 is simply a great allrounder and one of those rare cars which the manufacturer got right, and that's before any modding!

Test fitted my BBS CH026 tonight. 19x8j et50 with 235/35/19.

before

I like them but will pretty much definitely get them painted in the same colour as the ed30 wheels. Id also go for 225/35/19 goodyear f1s
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv453%2Fjedi-knight83%2F82801c12.jpg&hash=43eed438598a8d9672ce9d79d9dd9576ed59c2c7)

unfortunately they arent proper black editions with the polished lip.

someone before me had them refurbished and then painted a silver lip.

my plan is to refurb them in the pescara colour.

If the rear is too stiff you end up decreasing the grip at the rear... it can get messy

not really. you cant get points unless its repeated offence and they prove your doing it to avoid speeding fines.

otherwise its just a £30 fixed fine.

Ive seen someone using suckers before and that worked well.

I run my car with the suckers on the back of the plate, works fine.
Also, I would not advise people to run their car without the plates on the front, firstly because it is illegal, and secondly, because your number plate is there for identification purposes. If your car was stolen, ANPR would not be able to ping it if the thief used the motorways.

I also find that when I see cars without the numberplate on the front that I think how chavvy it seems, that the owner prefers looks over function.
Plates off at shows, and for photoshoots then fine, otherwise,  :fighting:

(sorry to hijack your thread) (Also hate people referring to police as 5-0 )

First run. No map changes. Just pre cat delete.

244bhp 293lbft.

Up 10bhp and 10lbft

Second run. Slight map changes

242bhp 299lbft
yes the bhp dropped at peak but its higher through the midrange as is torque.

the amp is under the passenger seat (its a bit wider) and the LOC is under the drivers seat but its pretty small so could go up under the dash somewhere in reality.

I think I'm pretty happy with the interior now and apart from replacing like for like on a few trims that have a few marks on them, I'm not sure i'll change anything else.

Cant wait to get the paintwork done and then I can polish it properly as well.

I'm still 50/50 on what colour wheels to have. Keep the black or go for a more OEM silver look?

Anyway... a few photos...

Jez man, that is looking amazing, love the interior! I'd refurb the wheels in silver or anthracite, I'm not a fan of black wheels.
Great work, don't forget to let me know when you get bored with it!!!

I've actually got some but I'm not sure I like them.

Hated the cheap crappy red tape behind them so if I mount them you would just be able to see the grey plastic through lettering.

Yes. My car already had the cover under the drivers seat as my car had the FM signal booster / switcher there for the old style headunits (the newer 310/510 series have it built into the headunit.

Then I bought the passenger side one. Its from a golf plus and I had to modify it a bit to get it to sit back far enough on the amp and its just velcro'd in place but its more to hide the  amp from anyone looking in that anything else.

Picked it up from ebay with an airbag for £300 (which was a bit of a bargain). Its a genuine item. VW make the MK6 with red or grey stitching. And then i just needed the 'CH' steering controller (£115) and a new 'G' revision cruise stalk (£50)

Is a VW dealer doing the respray or an Independant garage?

Are they using VW's own Tornado red, as it can be an absolute balls ache to have a perfect match on Red.

To be fair i'm paying £760 to have the bonnet and bumper painted so its the least they can do :)

Yes VW Chelmsford and I've banged into them the importance of the colour match (which is why im paying to have the bonnet and bumper done there even when their quote was about £260 more than the next most expensive)

They are refusing to blend the wings to the doors as part of the 'good will' repair but if its not right then I'm not going to sit back and accept it lying down.

To be fair... when I bought it I knew one of the wings had been painted (checked it all over with a paint depth gauge) and the colour match was actually excellent so fingers crossed they can do just as good of a job!

I've got fears of it coming back multiple colours though. My first car was a 1990 honday crx in rio red. It was lots of different shades or rio red though so I had a full respray in milano red and it looked awesome.

Ok I don't have steering controls so does that mean I won't need the ch controller and do I need to buy a new cruise control stalk?

updates on what?

Ive not really changed anything on it for a while now. Still trying to sort out a fuelling problem although its running beautifully now from a power point of view... just using too much fuel.

Changed a bit on the ICE as well. Now running an Audison Bit Ten digital processor. Sounds amazing.

Loving the car.

Front plinth filled, smoothed and wrapped
Rear VW emblem colour coded black and red
All machine polished and waxed with the £2350 Zymol Vintage wax :)

Sorry... not been on here in ages so just looking back at the progress and feeling pretty happy with myself :)

Recognition needs to go to R-Tech for many hours helping to sort out the remap as it had a few problems after my first map with another company, and also to Ed at APS for sorting and fitting the suspension which feels awesome.

What a difference 20 months and £5655 makes  :scared: :surprised:

Anyway also looking through my recent posts and I have put bits in other threads so just copying a few pics here so its all in one place.

Due to the fact I was a bit bored yesterday and because I'm thinking of selling so just getting all the bits together and in order, I actually worked out the cost as new and what the cost of all the options were... (yes I know... I'm a geek!)

Spec and price as new.

Basic car OTR, 3dr DSG GTi - £20,982

Respray bonnet and bumper and wings (wings replaced under warranty)- £650

Power and Handling
Milltek cat back non res exhaust - £300
R-Tech Stage 1 remap - £290
H&R lowering Springs - £300 fitted

JL 10W3V3-4 Sub - £150
Custom Sub Enclosure - £160
Misc ICE wiring and sound deadening - £100
Audison Bit Ten - £180

Total - £5655 (Although to be fair i sold bits like the pescara wheels, leather interior, oem steering wheel etc so hasn't actually cost me that much in cash... but then getting the ED30 bodykit bits with the car FOC prob saved about £1k)

Finally got my wheels refurbed lol. Been meaning to do it ever since I bought them second hand but just never got round to it. But after hitting a big pot hole recently and bending one very slightly I decided to get them all done.

Just stuck with the same colour / finish I already had. Satin black with a silver rim painted on. Painted the bolts satin and bought new bbs centre caps as well :)

Thanks to my mate for lending me his spare monzas while mine were away. Actually grew to like the look of them

Awesome car!

I must ask though, why did you swap the LC6 for the Bit Ten?
I'm trying to collect together all the parts for an audio install but I want to keep my RNS510 so I have been told to get a line out converter. Then I was told to get an LC6i and now a dealer has suggested a Bit Ten. Or, to put it another way, I have 3 options, one is £50, one is £150 and the Bit Ten is £300 so is it worth it?

In a short answer.... the bit ten is much better than the LC6i.

The bass is much deeper and more natural and you can set up time delays for the speakers with the bit ten.

I spent a decent amount on new speakers and amps etc but they didnt really come alive until the bit ten was installed.

Thanks for the reply.......as luck should have it, I managed to win a Bit Ten one on eBay for £126,  so I'm more than happy with that as long as it turns up that is.
I'm planning on installing everything at the end of next week. I want to put my amp under the passenger seat, so I need to find a place for the Bit Ten.....will I need access to it or can you do everything remotely with a laptop?

My bit ten was also about that price from ebay.

I put the bit ten under the driver seat and the display in the ash tray. Once set up you dont need to get to the main box so under the seat is fine. The extra display is very handy as you can adjust the sub level.

Yeah, I did think about putting the Bit Ten under the drivers seat but my BT hands free kit is there, hence why I need to find somewhere else.
It's not a problem, it's a challenge. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Plus, I'm with Maxitrol, how does the sub sound?

Yes is work and sounds fine. The enclosure is the correct air space volume for the JL 10" sub.

Its not crack the windows, competition winning levels of sub bass but its exactly what I was after.

Hello. No real update other than to say the car is still running like a dream. It lives in the garage a lot of the time now but when I do get to drive it, it still brings a smile to my face.

2 and a half years now makes this the longest I've owned a car and I'm not looking on pistonheads wanting to change it so I think that says a lot about the car really.

Now the wedding is all paid off, I'm looking at it again wondering what to do with it next :) Any suggestions? I think I'll do the dampers this year (still on the OEM ones) or maybe go for coil overs and I'd like better brakes although the NQSB or whatever its called with the Porsche calipers doesnt fit without spacers and put off by the weight of the S3 / R32 set up. Also need to get a bit of paint work at the rear sorted to keep it all perfect.

Hiya I'm pete, big poster on corrado.net.

I've bought a mk5 gti and love it but the hifi is awful. Looking at the focal a3 someone on here said they don't fit, then I came across your build thread.

Do the hsk163s fit into the doors with no hassle or were they tricky to fit? Also how do you find they sound.

I'm looking for sound quality and ease of install.

Cheers,
Pete.

I fitted the focals to mine and the mid wouldnt fit. It fouled onto the inner door but i couldnt get a spacer in there as the door card would have been rubbing on the speaker. I would avoid them if you can and buy something else

Hi

The Hertz fit but you need to make your own brackets for the tweeter and mid and you can get the autoleads adapters for the woofers. TBH even with these fitted just running off the standard HU there wasnt much difference in sound. The biggest difference came after I fitted an Audison bit-ten sound processor and hooked it all up with amp and sub etc.

Hi I ended up going for a set of JL C5.653 speaker which fitted into the doors, and I've got a Sinfoni 45.2x waiting to go in when I change the head unit.

The 4"mids went in but wouldn't fit into the screw holes in the card so used pro installer hot glue to put them in (I bought them from a top end car audio fabricator who had them in part exchange for some Morels, he helped me fit them).

So having gone through a long phase of not doing much with the car other than pottering around in it... I've recently found the love again and wanting to continue the project.

Gave the calipers a bit of a refresh with some fresh paint. Also cleaned up the inner wheels and removed the old wheel weights myself ready for the new tyres..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F11%2F03%2Fa9126000df91fde38670b5c7015ae6dd.jpg&hash=d045f91198b5cd225e73afcd7862bb56f62795d8)

New Super Sports have squarer shoulders than the conti's so seem wider even though both are 225/35/19. They are loads better than the Conti SC 5p. much sharper turn in. I'm getting a sharp and brief metallic rubbing noise occasionally now though when on turn in and it hits a bump. Cant see any contact in the inner arch at all though so not 100% sure its the tyre. Wondering if the top mounts have just happened to go at the same time??

After playing around with a few different bluetooth modules and head units I finally got the bluetooth streaming working as I wanted with the track names coming up on screen :) Had to swap the RCD510 from a A revision to a G revision and install a 7P6 J revision Bluetooth. Now works seamlessly with my my iPhone 6 bringing up all the contacts in the correct format and shows track names with bluetooth music streaming.

Its still pulling like a train... in fact I have to change the DV recently and it feels stronger than ever now. Would love to put it back on the R-Tech rollers as I think its pulling harder than when they first mapped it!

I've got a new wishlist now though .. although already ticked a couple of things off :)

Wishlist
Mk6 red halo highline clocks - ordered
Mk6 Climate controls - ordered
MK6 Bilstein B8 Dampers or Bilstein B14 Coilovers
New bushes all round. Maybe Superpro and replace WALK with Superpro
R32 brakes in red all round
Chrome tipped light / mirror / window switches
Replace scratched inner door grab handles
Respray rear bumper
Skoda Fabia VRS LED running lights wired so they dim at night
Wire up genuine DAB tailgate antenna

MK6 rad halo clocks ready for Eddie_NL to fit. I think these will look pretty sexy!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl483%2FEddie-GT%2Fgti2_zps4eabc84f.jpg&hash=3252e1dd32b2187c49ce91c29d51c88fb65423d2)

Bought the MK6 Climate panel and need to get the MK6 facia and then obviously a few wiring changes. TBH i prefer the look of the MK5 one but with changing the clocks the blue light on the MK5 temp display will be the only blue light left and will look out of place... OCD??
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2F00%2Fs%2FNjI5WDk1OQ%3D%3D%2Fz%2Fp80AAOSwnDxUlgmF%2F%24_12.JPG&hash=eb82b92a3f5b65d0f593cffc311229c6878f2c91)

Also I might start another thread asking this but...

Suspension question
I've currently got H&R springs on OEM dampers and the ride is pretty good i'd say but i'd like to replace the dampers as they have now done 85k. I think the springs have sagged quite a bit from when I fitted them and also with the new wider tyres they might be rubbing slightly on turn in although I cannot see any contact points at all.

I also want to keep as comfortable a ride as possible!! Shall I go for the MK6 Bilstein B8 dampers with my existing springs or B14 coil overs giving me the ability to raise it slightly if indeed it is the tyres rubbing.. although I'm wondering if its worn top mounts causing the noise.

Are the B14 much stiffer than the H&R / B8 combo?

Bushes question
Again as its on 85k I'm thinking i'll refresh these. I've got a WALK on there but it was a used from from AKS and I see people are tending to go for the superpro one now.
Which bushes are most important to change. I haven't got a bottomless pit of money unfortunately so if its pointless doing some bushes I'd rather leave them for now.

Also which bushes for an improvement but again without giving me a solid rock hard ride?

Finally anything else I should look at given its age and mileage? Engine mounts? I can't say I ever drive it and think "boy that engine is moving a lot" but maybe its an essential mod and I don't know what I'm missing??

Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for any advice / comments.

That's a nice back drop there Nathan.

MK6 rad halo clocks ready for Eddie_NL to fit. I think these will look pretty sexy!

Looking tidy as f*ck @jedi-knight83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4296)

The wheels couldn't suit Tornado red any better. Performance & new DV sounds good too, looks like you're enjoying it from the ace shots  :happy2:

Also, PSS tyres  I've got some PS3's on the way after grabbing a bargain but I'll get another set of PSS soon, you've reminded me  :happy2:

£240 fitted for the clocks and £140 for the climate / loom / facia. More than I wanted to spend on this but it looks nice now.

I'm still not happy with how the mk6 clocks look in the scirocco surround but thats the only way they will fit ... for now

Plan is to modify the mk6 ones to fit the mk5 dash

MK6 for reference.

not yet. I've got the mk6 surround and just need to find time to test fit it. I've got a friend at a model making company who can then try to modify it to look OEM.

She's getting old now. 89400 miles. Little things starting to break.

Replaced the passenger side door lock today. Bit of a mission removing the door skin but it ended up looking scarier than it was in reality.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F09%2F30%2F2e52b35265565fd116b6e3a52b8ab2b3.jpg&hash=26845494107199d6e70d3370337c62ef070f1984)

Wiper mechanism seized and snapped as well. Apparently common on quite a few VW. Another £100 down the drain.

Still loving the car though and not planning to sell her yet

An epic car you've built mate! So clean only thing similar I have is the bbs in black with a silver lip but they're 18"s!
Wondering where you got your bbs centre caps from as I've struggled to find them!

Neither. Back to standard air box set up. Both of them made the car feel less responsive low down, confirmed with a dyne run which showed it actually reduced the torque. It added a little bit top end but I prefer the early surge of the torque.

Also both were way too noisy for what I wanted.

ah right i see, thanks for the information as i was thinking of changing to an induction kit and I've got a stage 1 remap by niki at r-tec but think i won't bother then and keep the standard air box.

Cheers for advice mate.

Talk to R-Tech again and see if they concur. But OEM airbag for stage 1 was the decision we arrived at when I spoke to them last and ran a couple of different set ups before.

2015 Mk7 Golf R Brakes. 340mm. Apparently 3kg lighter than the R32/S3 345mm options.

Been wanting to upgrade the brakes for ages so quite happy its finally happening :)

90000 mile present to my car today. Hit 90k on the way to the garage

The stone guards don't fit annoyingly. Will have to get mk5 r32 ones?

There's no point in the stone guards, they do very little and normally rust and fall off causing issues. Better off without them as they more of a pain than they're worth but I would expect R32 ones to fit should you desire them enough. Perhaps paint them red to match the calipers to add some extra colour behind the wheels... :happy2:

Brakes felt mega on a 800 mile trip around the Cotswolds. Very very happy with their performance.

A great alternative to the 345mm r32 brakes.

Disc weight
MK5 GTI 312mm 8.25kg
Mk7 R 340mm 10.75kg
MK5 R32 345mm 12.12kg

Car was very dirty after the trip and its been a couple of years since it was last properly polished so I've been detailing it over the last few evenings (the benefit of having a garage at last!) so it will be back to its shiny brilliantness shortly :)
