Title: Mk5 GTI Pirelli Build/Progress Thread
Post by: Pirelli_Reece on April 30, 2017, 06:31:57 pm
Hi all,

I've recently bought a pirelli edition GTI. It's a 58 plate, 6 speed manual in reflex silver. I'm going to use this thread to document everything I do to the car from servicing to mods.

Someone p/x'd it at work (I work at a VW dealership) and I had to have it.
Being a member of staff I got it for an absolute steal.

Here's a picture of it in the car park at work before I bought it.
And the inside
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170430/309f74d83ecc5b2524bc2246ff247be7.jpg)

It had full main dealer history up to 2013 and then was looked after by a VW specialist. It's been well cared for and only had 55,555 on the clock when I picked it up.

The first weekend in my ownership I gave it an oil change service and a pollen filter. Didn't bother changing the plugs as they were only changed about 4K miles ago and when I came to replace the air filter I found an aftermarket filter already in place.

When I got it home I gave it a little TLC.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170430/3e5080cecec7385cf4904d8ab3d6d6f0.jpg)

I love how shiny the Milltek comes up! Also noticed that the front bumper is plagued with stone chips. It could really do with a full paint decontamination but I just don't have the time at the moment.

So after about 2 weeks of me owning the car, someone clipped the back wheel while it was parked up and I was at work.
As you can imagine I was not happy!

Here it is parked on the road with the mrs's car while we were waiting for the drive to be finished.

And here they are on the finished drive!

Still haven't managed to convince the mrs that she needs a VAG car (I've only been trying for the last 4 years...)

I got one of the guys from work to replace the cambelt and water pump for me. (I can do some stuff, but that's a bit out of my skill set haha)

Gave it some more loving last weekend (23/04/2017)

Then this weekend I finally swapped over my private plate.

And I had to get a quick pic of the beading from the rain (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170430/a9d47fa157ba6452c9ffcde07e0985bc.jpg)

That's just about everything I can think of to date. I'll post the full spec a bit later on.

That's a great car - don't think I've ever seen a Pirelli edition on the road.
I test drove a 5-dr manual Pirelli before my ED30 - drove very well, but one of the door locks was screwed - not what you'd expect on a main dealer forecourt car. Or maybe so! I can't believe the price you paid for your car - amazing!
Look forward to hearing more in future!

It was the first one I've seen on the road too. I'm really happy with how it drives.
It's funny you should say that because mine has a passenger door lock fault which I need to sort before it fails completely. I priced up the part from work the other day and even at cost price it still costs more than my cambelt kit and water pump, something like £128.

Apart from that there's a broken coil spring which I need to sort out and then I can move on to mods rather than maintenance!

Takes those mats in it  :happy2:  ever thought of painting the grab handles yellow either side of the gearknob?

Hadn't thought of that no. Not sure it'd be to my taste.
I did see another Pirelli at early edition last weekend which had been fully trimmed in alcantara to match the seat inserts though, which I thought was awesome

Small update!

I was having a clear out of all my car parts earlier and I found the polo aerial which was fitted on my Up! Needless to say it went straight on the golf and it looks loads better.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170602/6f6bebf8fe965021952546ab6ef8bf96.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170602/e3111541dd3fc655f228acc1210b40a4.jpg)

Yeah, it's those little things that make all the difference to the look of the car. Quite often the cheapest little mods are the nicest touches.

Haha, yeah, on night shift so gives me time to catch up on all the posts I missed by sleeping during the day.  What's your excuse?

Very nice looking golf Reece, you were very lucky to snap this up indeed.

It must feel good to have a limited edition model!

Here's a couple of snaps of how clean she was before the 100 mile trip to GTI International.
(Yes, I'm aware my photographic skills aren't the best and most of my photos look the same haha)

Update!
Cars been in the workshop at work, had to have an ABS control unit. It's back on the road now and it feels so nice to be back in my own car rather than borrowing one from work every night!

Also ordered some AP coilovers on Sunday night as I've got a broken coil spring and an MOT coming up next month so I thought I may aswell fix it properly! Pics to come once they've arrived and been fitted.

Fitted my coilovers this afternoon! The only casualty was the drivers side top mount, luckily there was one in stock.

It doesn't feel any less comfortable than standard and they're wound all the way down at the moment.

Had the MOT yesterday passed with no advisories!
I need to wind the front coilovers up a little bit though as the driveshaft appears to be catching on the anti roll bar intermittently

I absolutely love the interior and the wheels on these  I also have a very soft spot for a fellow Reflex Silver GTI  :happy2:

Sits miles better on the coilovers and it must be common for the drivers top mount, I had the same issues  :scared:

Not been on in a while and the car isn’t getting much mileage now due to having a company car. Took her for a spin yesterday and got a quick snap at work (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171105/6379b7b3cbfd6b4448d222b820a110d1.jpg)

Little update,

I’ve barely driven the car since my last post but here a couple of small upgrades I’ve done.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180325/c5023a57987a98f76a10362e55ef3bc2.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180325/82ee90b04a947e0972f6ba24834aee7e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180325/44a2addef2b647b99d9da25dff7e4f81.jpg)

RNS315DAB fitted, just need to get round to wiring up a microphone and getting the DAB working.
Also fitted a black screen wash cap and latest generation black coolant cap to freshen up the engine bay a little bit.
