Forge engine caps
on May 20, 2018, 04:46:40 PM
Anyone know where I can get these caps in chrome? I saw them a few years back before I got my Edition 30 but I've spent weeks looking for some and can only find ones for the mk7 GTI.

Any help appreciated.

No it's fine.  It's still a direct mechanical connection to the tie rods like old school steering racks.  You just have a motor for assistance instead of a hydraulic pump.

Nice work.  Certainly a lot of weight removed from the roof!  Approx 15kg with the glass panel?

Re: Another Oil question
Last Poster: Pudding in Mk5 General Area on Today at 09:35:10 AM
I've been using VW 502.00 spec oil for about a year now - Mobil 1 0W-40 FS in my 2005 GTI (115k) and its been running great for me. It's actually a lot smoother on startups (especially in winter) and I don't need to top up that often compared to the VW 504.00 5W-30 longlife oil I was using before.

As yours is an early car, VW probably changed the design after your car was built.  Google the part number.  You can see the suffix has changed 4 times.

Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope, especially on the areas you've worked on recently.

Is the noise there constantly and varies in pitch with engine revs, or is it only there at idle?

Re: Gearbox
Last Poster: Pudding in Mk5 General Area on Today at 09:18:32 AM
Yeah I was indeed way off on the gearbox price!  Is it an 'X' (rebuilt exchange) suffix part number?

If there's one small consolation to ease the pain of the price, you will get the latest revision (with factory fitted end float shims) and steel shift forks  :happy2:

Mk7 R with APR badge and loud crackly exhaust in front of me today. It pulled, but not ridiculously. And I'm only on a baby k03 with a couple of tweaks. Although on wet roads that thing would have left me standing. Yep, still happy with my old mk5, still don't covet the mk7 R all that much.

The standard pump is enough for a stage 2+. Old pumps might need replacing but you can find lots of low mileage pumps on eBay for cheap prices.

3" Turbo back r32 style exhaust

Im after a 3" full turbo back exhaust r32 style. On my old one I had the precat removed and backbox delete and liked the sound but could have been a little louder. So after a decat this time too but want to keep a resonator.

How do you find out if there’s a repair kit that’s compatible?

Backs could drive that low as nothing is touching the front drivers side sits on the driveshaft so couldn’t drive at that height

If your esp light is on. It can be your rear drivers side bearing needs changing. Very easy to do if you have tools. The reason this happens, the magnetic pick up for the speed sensor erodes and cannot read anymore. Tey type in the error number into Google.

The error has noth

My BLX engine config seems to be running the 228mm diameter clutch unlike BWA's 240 which should be the same as the S3 :(
So will try and find flywheel and clutch for this and hope it fits my crankshaft

Any idea if I need different driveshaft on the transfer case's side?

Last Poster: Octoparrot in Mk5 General Area on October 16, 2018, 07:30:39 PM
I wouldn't go for the toyo's with winter on the way. With that level of power in a front wheel drive you're always going to struggle putting it down, if you really want trackday type tyres then I've read favourable reports about Pirelli's Trefeo tyre.

Last Poster: minty7815 in Mk5 General Area on October 16, 2018, 02:47:49 PM
Got a new exhaust from Getract on ebay, admittedly it's not the last word in quality but it was £91 and fits just fine. Will take it for a hoon and let you all know how it drives. If it gets me through winter and the rest of the restoration I'll be happy. Then I can get a custom SS exhaust done next year.

RacingLine intake kit - Edition 30 / Golf 6 R (Can also fit K03 with a small change)

A bit of a long shot, but does anyone fancy a Racingline intake? :)

A year old and barely any use, so still in excellent condition.   The guide plate for the grill has been adjusted slightly to fit wider S3 / aftermarket intercoolers, but will still fit cars with a standard intercooler.

My engine is back to standard so it's surplus to requirements.  In spite of the well documented fitment issues with this kit, it does add noticeable power and is quiet.  Racingline are working on an improved version, but there is no ETA.  It may not even happen, so this is a chance to grab a kit £200 off the new price!

I also have a TT-S engine cover available if someone wants a package deal.

This kit will fit K03 engines too if you block off the diverter port.  A cheap bung from ebay will do the job.

    Price includes postage.

Genuine coilpack (07K905715F): £25 (always kept one in the boot just incase!)

Single DIN stereo facia & wiring: £10 (Connects2 stuff I bought to install a single din Alpine stereo, but then chose to go OEM. Includes a stick on DAB ariel. Used the power cable once to test the stereo, but beyond that never installed/used any of it.)

I’ve owned the car since April-18, and it’s been a fantastic car in that time. The only reason this is for sale is due to the fact that I am going from 2 cars to 1 car for personal reasons. The car has spent the past few years being looked after by AKS Tuning, so has been in good hands during that time, and you will see from the extensive full history, receipts & clean MOT history that the car has been looked after.

      • Red
      • HPI Clear
      • Full Service History. The car has been serviced with a stamp every single year since new. (Service at Nottingham independent Lindleys on 22/9/18 for an interim service)
      • 4 previous Keepers
      • 67,000 Miles (6k miles per year. Previous owner since 25,000 miles)
      • Spare key
      • MOT until 4/6/19 (Take a look at the MOT History to show this car has been looked after. Only 1 MOT in 2013 with advisories due to covers obscuring, and slight tyre wear).
      • 3 x Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tyres / 1 Dunlop Sport Maxx all with 5mm+ tread, not Budgets.
      • Golf R Suspension from a 2012 car fitted by previous owner, so newer.
      • Wheels were powdercoated at a cost of £312 back in 2014
      • Cruise Control (great on the motorway)
      • Folding wing mirrors
      • Rare Armrest. Catches inside are broken but these are £100 second hand, doesn’t detract at all from the use of it.
      • Climate control is ice cold
      • Cambelt & Waterpump changed 29/5/15 @ 35,515 miles
      • Cam follower replaced in 25/4/16

      • Genuine Fuel filter fitted 1/1/17 - £27.35
      • Drop links changed – 06/18
      • Rear right caliper replaced 2018 - £138.30
      • Brake Fluid Replaced with Brembo 5.1 DOT 3/2/18
      • All discs and pads still have plenty of life on them.
      • Recall at Seat completed back in Aug-17 for the replacement ABS/ESP Control Unit.

      • SPS Controller - £99
      • Helix Organic Clutch with DMF fitted at AKS Tuning with receipt for £1,000. This now handles the power, and don’t have to worry about your clutch as you would on most others.
      • Pipercross Panel Filter (I haven’t used a proper filter with this as don’t like the noise), so standard airbox - £30
      • Full Milltek Turbo Back Exhaust with Sports cat (Flew through the MOT with this on) - £600
      • Golf R Intercooler - £100
      • Golf R in tank Fuel Pump
      • RS4 Fuel Valve - £47
      • Uprated Diverter Valve (GFB DV+) - £97.80
      • H&R Front Anti-Roll Bar - £160
      • SuperPro Anti Lift Kit - £166.80
      • Uprated Osram side lights and Phillips racing vision lights (09/10/16) - £31.56
      • HEKO wind deflectors all round
      • Wing mirrors and Bottom lip on front bumper plastidipped black to align with the facelift models.
      • Front and rear calipers painted black with Hammerite to tidy up appearance.

The body work for an 11 year old car is generally in great condition. The front end does have stone chips due to the soft paint on these. The main mark of notice is on the Passenger front wing, there is a slight dent on the swag line, which should be able to be pulled out, and you can only catch in certain light, but wanted to mention. It has never bothered me.
The Alloys were powdercoated at a cost of £312, but front left wheel, does have kerb marks on it, so if being picky could do with refurbishing. There are a couple of smaller marks on 2 of the other wheels, but they still clean up well. Again this has never bothered me.

I have a folder full of paperwork with the car, including the service book, and lots of receipts for work carried out.

Due to the mods, and having had the money spent on a decent Clutch, to support the power, I believe the car is fairly priced. Looking for a quick sale.

£4,199 ovno. Please do not message me asking what my best price as you won’t get a response. Feel free to pick up the phone or arrange a viewing.
