Question for those that have had their sills replaced
Last Poster: Marticus in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 12:01:22 pm
Hi all,

It'#039s time to replace the sills on my golf as they'#039re both showing signs of rust, I'#039ve got a quote for the work and booked in for a month of so, but one question that came up was about fitting the sideskirts.

I told him that it was a standard setup (with the sideskirt carrier bolted into the sill), the problem is that when I look on ETKA I can'#039t see

I too had a superchips remap done on my car a few years ago now. I wasn'#039t after max power figures I just wanted more oomph in the mid range for overtaking and that'#039s exactly what it provided. It was a really noticeable difference. On the rolling road it made 236bhp with everything else completely standard, but it'#039s the mid range torque that really matters for every day road driv

Re: What hose is underneath the vacuum pump?
Last Poster: nm in Mk5 General Area on April 08, 2024, 11:50:47 am
That is a coolant hose coming from the heater core in the car if I recall, and it connects to a plastic hose junction on the block. nbsp It usually leaks (mine included) due to the rubber seal becoming hard and flat with the engine heat cycles. nbsp

Easy enough to replace with the vacuum pump

Last Poster: mjmallia in Mk5 General Area on April 08, 2024, 08:27:03 am
Did you check the cam adjuster seals as they can crack, wear or break off completely.

They control the oil pressure at different rpm stages. nbsp If one fails it could cause a rattle at idle, mid rpm or high rpm......I had the first and last issue over the years related to these rings. nbsp Last one related to wear when I got the car and the first one from when the cam chain w

Checked with VCDS for errors?

Worth checking the pedal travel values on VCDS, as it is drive by wire and may be faulty.

Re: Are Japanese lightweight 17” Monza wheels a thing?
Last Poster: mjmallia in Mk5 General Area on April 08, 2024, 08:11:00 am
The genuine BBS Monza's also have to have the metal tyre valve due to the hollow spokes........you are not able to fit the standard rubber valves.

That is an easy tell off pictures.

Common of the early Mk5 GTI's as I have my original set in the garage.

No change in drone, sometimes it leaks some (nice) sound to the cabin under hard acceleration, but normally sounds the same. It'#039s most noticeable from the (also nice) rasp your hear with the windows down, makes my stock exhaust only a little bit louder.

Glad to hear, that

Thank you, how easy is the fix for the wiring loom and do you remember how much it was.

Putting the number plate on the lower grill is just going to block off more air to the intercooler.  :stupid:

LOL well probably, but I'm no boy racer and it's coped ok so far.
I guess for yourself it wouldn't be any good 💪😁

Re: Metallic sound from engine, possible timing stretch?
Last Poster: OllieVRS in Mk5 General Area on April 04, 2024, 02:20:19 pm
There'#039s two places to check before determining it could be the timing chain: Left circle is the tensioner for the auxiliary belt, right circle is the Evap Purge Valve (N80). Both can make a metallic noise. Put your ear to both and see if either is the source of the noise.

Hi,

In the end, it was a vacuum issue. nbsp The only parts that were replaced were a vacuum hose and a breather valve and it has been fine ever since.

I am told that the EA113 engine is very sensitive to vacuum losses (as can be seen by the number of threads on this forum :signLOL: ) which can throw all manner of fault codes. Given the age of our cars hoses, pipe

Re: installing a new canbus
Last Poster: mjmallia in Sat Nav and Car Audio on April 03, 2024, 08:27:33 am
It will need coding with VCDS or similar.

You need to take screen shots of the original settings and then replicate them on the new canbus, as the module numbers/locations will differ.

Without coding, there will be a lot of issues with stuff not working.

Location: West London
Collection Only

Hi all,

For sale is my 2008 Volkswagen Golf GTi Edition 30 (DSG). I am the 2nd owner from new and have owned the car since November 2021. The car was near enough stock when I purchased it and I have upgraded it in my ownership.

- 5 door.
- DSG.

- 76,000 miles (will rise as still in use).
- FSH - last serviced December 2023.

- Heated seats.
- Highline MFD.
- Arm rest.
- MFSW.
- RNS510.
- Folding mirrors (heated).
- Rear parking sensors.

In my ownership I have had the following maintenence completed:

- Serviced 3 times (2 full services, one oil and filter change).
- Cambelt and waterpump.
- Thermostat replaced.
- DSG service.
- Genuine cam chain and tensioner.
- Genuine cam follower changed at every service.

- Whole car has had Powerflex bushes installed in December 2023.
- Super pro anti lift kit - fitted December 2023.
- AP coilovers (top mounts replaced all around at the same time), fitted December 2023.
- All rear control arms replaced (December 2023).
- Geo By Luke fast road alignment (December 2023).
- Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres all around.

I've just spent circa £2.5k on the suspension components refresh.

I have spared no expense on ensuring the car is mechanically sound.

Being honest, the car could do with the wheels being refurbished. There is general wear and tear on the car which is expected for the age, the car is approaching 16 years old. There are some minor dents and scratches. The front end does have some stone chips. The inner sills have some slight blistering to the paint. The MFSW buttons work intermittently but I have bought the new control module but haven't had this fitted yet. The cruise control is also intermittent and I have purchased a new stalk, but haven't fitted this yet. Parts will be included in the sale, or if I have time, I will get them installed before sale.. Front and rear dash cams & pioneer double din are not included in the sale.

If you are looking for a well sorted car which mechanically has been looked after well, this is a good car to purchase.

I am in no rush to sell, only considering selling to upgrading. No part exchanges please.

The pictures are prior to the installation of the coilovers, I will upload new pictures once I have detailed the car.

I'm looking for £11,495.00, I paid just under this when I bought the car stock.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Kind regards,

Sharif
2 x Mk5 Gtis being broken, West Midlands
£0.00
Location: Walsall, West Midlands
Postage: £0.00
Delivery or Collection

I have, in annoying and frustrating circumstances, ended up with 2 Black Gtis that are both dead on my drive, both for engine reasons, so I couldnt even get away with making a good one out of the two, and have had to replace them both with an R32!

I will start pulling them apart and will list stuff separately as I have the chance, however, due to lots of stuff that is going on at the minute, that may take me ages, so I thought a general post about both being broken may be helpful for anyone who is after specific bits etc.

One is an 05 5 door, block and head are totally scrap.  Was in daily use until a couple of months back when the engine lunched itself.  Pretty much all standard.  Of note off the top of my head has:

- Heated Leathers in decent condition
- Standard Grey Leather Gti Steering wheel
- 17" Monzas with decent Tyres
-  Midline Clocks
- Generally things are pretty tidy, so anyone who needs standard bits like engine cover, trim, light covers etc etc etc, they might be of use to you.

One is an 06 3 door, with a few more tasty bits and pieces on, but that has been sat for longer.  Again, engine itself is lunched.  Again, from the top of my head there is:

- Heated Cloth interior in not bad condition
- Black MFSW
- Cat Back Stainless, although the cat itself was getting borderline on MOT passes, so maybe just the backbox of use
- 18" Monzas
- Neuspeed Intake
- Twintercooler Setup
- Reversing sensor setup rear bumper etc
- Highline clocks

There will be other decent bits on both - As I say, I am working a bit off memory at the minute.

I just need the cars gone, so once I get started, really I just need it all out the way, so not especially bothered about getting top dollar for bits, I just need the space back, but know that the bits on them both are too good to let go for scrap.

I am based just outside Walsall in the West Midlands, but work in Cardiff, so go there most weeks, and am happy to take stuff there (or meet people in between).

Shout if any questions, and as I actually get stuff off I will get pictures up, but if people want me to get pictures of anything specific, let me know and I can do.  I am actually listing this right now when I am away from home with work for a few days, as thats the only way I actually get time to, but feel free to send me questions etc and Ill answer best I can, then send pics when I get back.

I dont love posting car bits out - There is too much room for stuff to get damaged, go missing etc  - I would much rather collections, or meet you somewhere etc in an ideal world, but it can possibly be arranged on some stuff.
