Re: breaking a car - How do you do it?

A garage will help to store some of the bits you have taken off. As once you remove a door or 2, the elements will get in as well as maybe animals.

Last Poster: slix in Mk5 General Area on Today at 07:24:24 AM
Surely the extra weight of the tyre/wider alloys will outweigh the benefit of more rubber on the road for grip. More inertia will occur.

Remember lighter wheel and tyres combo will keep the wheels planted better and will have less rebound from the suspension to keep them touching the ground quicker.

Stereo with compatible canbus revision
Last Poster: Dave_d in Sat Nav and Car Audio on Yesterday at 09:41:31 PM
Ive just bought a new stereo off eBay (see picture)

It states that I wil need a new canbus gateway as mine is revision F, found this one  on the internet  that is a Q revision. Is it fairly simple to code the Q revision gateway to my car? I have VCDS at my disposal.

Re: Someone crashed into my car - Insurance advice

Update, received an email from esure customer relations today to be told they will increase the offer from £2970 to £3170 and this is the end of the matter. They have taken circa £500 off the valuation as my car had some previous damage, some rust on front wings and small amount on leading edge of sill.

I've been informed the cheque will be sent within 7 days..

Last Poster: Shoduchi in How to Guides / Troubleshooting on Yesterday at 05:16:14 PM
A track day friend and dyno tester gave me bad feedback about Quaife LSD. Told me that he knew a few cases needing repair. Being more expensive didn't help its case either. :slap:

Forged over milled steel sounds good. I can only find good feedback on American forums about this LSD so that pretty much made me go for it.

Re: Black smoke from exhaust when accelerating?
Last Poster: Pudding in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 01:57:20 PM
Step one - Open Bonet
Step two - Check engine cover says FSI not TDI

 :signLOL:

I've never noticed any smoke from mine, although my exhaust tips do get a bit sotty. I had to top up about 500ml of oil after about 4000miles. So I guess it burns 100ml per 1000miles ish

Re: What did you and your MKV do today?
Last Poster: Shoduchi in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 01:03:01 PM
Ya....drilling and some nutserts.  Personally I would tack weld the nutserts in.  I've had one of these braces before (a Unibrace) in my MK4 and the nutserts can end up just spinning on themselves, causing a rattle/squeak noise.

That's why I jumped on the Tyrolsport one.  No nutserts  :s

Hi all,

Ive had my gti for a month now and love it, its had all the usual failures replaced since i bought it (cam follower due to be done this weekend) however I try to avoid wherever i can but where it is unavoidable whenever i hit a "substantial" pothole, the throttle becomes very unresponsive and jerky then the engine cuts out. I turn it back on but no better. If i

            Hi guys,

I purchased these coilpacks from AKS about 3 months ago when I was having a misfire issue (Documented on my build thread) - it turned out to be a faulty injector instead. But unfortunately my car has been written off so I've removed these and have put them up for sale.

EDIT - Reason for sale is that the car is hardly ever used anymore and the money would be a big help for work on our house.

£6995 or make me an offer.

So I've finally decided to sell my cherished GTi... I've owned the car for a little over 7 years now and its wanted for nothing. The bulk of the modifications listed were made by the previous owner, so I've had the luxury of enjoying it over the years.

It'll be a sad day when it goes as its the longest I've ever owned a car. There is just something about the Mk5 which I just really enjoy, so I'm hoping the next owner can enjoy it as much as I do and is equally well cared for.

I dont know if this price is too high or about right... there looks to be a few poorly spec'd cars around at the moment on Autotrader for similar money, so let me know what you think or make an offer.

              Bad points

Being completely honest, all cars have there niggles and this one is now 10yrs old so it shouldnt come as a surprise there are a couple...

Slight scrape to rear bumper on the drivers side corner where a kind soul demonstrated their lack of driving skills - its only minor and barely noticable but I know its there... I actually tried to get some photos of this but I couldnt get it to show up in the light there was at the time.

Passenger door lock intermittently not unlocking on the central locking so need to unlock from inside the car - I've priced the part to around £150 plus fitting it, I may get this sorted before it goes though. This actually only just started to occur but from looking in to how to fix it, it seems to be a common "feature".

Three of the four Monza wheels are suffering with "white worm". I've had the cost of a refurb for all four priced at £350 by Pristine Wheels for the same original finish with diamond cut so this is taken in to account with the price.

              Hi guys,

I've recently had my car written off and so I'm selling my Revo intake. I would keep this but as this was my second MK5 GTI I have decided it's time for a change.

I purchased this from AKS for just under £300 a short while ago so this is a fair price though I am open to sensible offers. It comes complete with all jubilee clips / bolts & the heatshield.

This is ready to collect & fit in your vehicle.

              Thanks for looking,
