Title: PCV
Post by: pandaman on July 13, 2018, 01:09:52 pm
I've done a fair bit of searching and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Sorry if this has been answered 100 times!
When replacing the PCV with the latest revision (R), is the rear breather tube with a check valve necessary?

I swear I read that it is, but can't seem to find the post that said it, and I have more recently read that perhaps the revision R does not need the new check valve.

I'm a bit lost as to whether I need it or not... also do I have the right part number for the rear breather?: 06F103213N
I have an 05 plate GTI if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Part number is written on the underside of the PCV, you’ll have to take it off.
With the part number of the current one in hand you can then be sure whether to change rear breather or not.

You don't need it. The 'P' revision was the problem. The previous N and the current R do not need the checkvalve

It's easy...if there is a check valve attached here on the current PCV...then, ther should be no check valve in the rear breather tube. And so, if there's no check valve attached here, like the one in the pic, ...then there is a check valve in the rear breather tube.

Ok so like Dan said you don't need the rear check valve on a revision R, so I'm guessing it has one where you pointed, and I don't need the new rear breather.

Right. PCV "-R" has two check valves in it, so the rear breather has none, and so the rear breather would only need replacing if it cracks. if you decide to change the PCV to a "-P" or one of its future revisions...then you need change the rear tube from pn;06F103213N to pn;06F103215B.
