Guy at work who has a Mk5 TDI has said he's had a letter from VW asking him to bring his car in for a check on the ESP / Stability Control as there may be a fault.
Has anyone else had a letter? I've not, and I can't find anything online (i've used the recall checker on the VW site - but I think the above isn't an official 'recall')
-
Don't bother with it as it's bollo*** I've not had one but after 12years plus why bother now?
-
Because litigation. If you have an accident which was found to be directly caused by a software glitch in the ESP system, you're going to sue VAG. Multiply that by XXXXX other claims and it's potentially ruinous for a car company.
Strange attitude to have imo. It's a free update for your safety. I think the real concern here is people losing their remaps.
I think it only affects 2008 on MK5/A3 platform cars anyway?

Yes I recall Toyota having brake related issues with I think the American version of the avensis was it?,
Unless they've already been sued for an accident involving brakes failure on certain I don't know
-
Yep, all those crazy videos of American pensioners driving through shop windows
I think some of those cases were carpet mats getting stuck under the pedals, and/or bottles of drink rolling under the pedal. Some people are just too dumb to deserve space on this planet.
-
Not those videos :signLOL:
These were actually serious when the brakes did fail but can't remember as it was a fair few years ago!.
-
Hard to recall as Toyota USA have had so many recalls :signLOL:
-
if you got a recall letter it mean means your ABS possible needs a software update. some have crashed when VW tried to update the software which means replacement apparently.
Book it in

I have a MY2008 Ed. 30 and other than the free replacement of the coil packs I don't think it had any other recall. I've asked VW if it had any pending recall in the system when I bought the car and there was none at the time. So far I haven't received any letter too.
My 1.9 TDI GT Sport is a MY2009 and it has the newer ABS pump MK60EC1. I've bought it from VW from new and I remember having a recall a couple of years later. So that must be it.

A chap with an 08 S3 posted his letter on the FB group the other night. Does a GTS if the same year have the same controller? If yes, perhaps they are just doing the letters in batches to avoid people flooding the dealerships?

Posted July this year - http://www.thedrive.com/news/12186/volkswagen-recalls-766000-cars-globally-for-brake-issue
Only affects May 08 to August 10 cars.
My ESP works fine, so doubt I will get a letter!

I got my Golf MY2009 from VW in Nov/2008. It must have been built in late Sept or Oct.
-
Cheers for all the replies. Looks like mines not effected as its an 07. Chap at work must have an 08 (has a private plate, so don't know when it was registered)

Basically they've now covered their :booty: so if something goes wrong and you haven't got it touch with them to have the recall done it's then all down to you if something goes wrong.
