Title: My Pirelli
Post by: gixerben on January 11, 2015, 02:44:06 pm
Hi all, been on the forum a while so thought I would pop some pic's up of my Pirelli..

I have carried out a few mods since purchase with plenty more to come no doubt...

I started off with full LED interior bulb replacement along with yellow tint fogs up front.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FDSC_0078_zps9c3becfc.jpg&hash=c5d5b0e3a2abed97d0ae2edbb4c74fec0125a48b)

Then as I have always loved the R32 rear end I sourced all genuine parts and finished it off with a BCS R32 cat back system..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_3838_zps70b100ad.jpg&hash=f45ee6dfbb483984ead166ef75debdaffc0ffb7e)

And popped on some pressed plates..

Then Eddie came and worked his magic and installed Highline cluster (cheers V4rley)for me...great work and a massive improvement. And while he was playing with settings he coded my door warning lights..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_3840_zpsd4acd41b.jpg&hash=93d383740e0b37c0a814dcc1e7e11bf6b73bdf4f)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_3839_zps320bf4eb.jpg&hash=986598f3088acc5c143b965f07984441eb31c945)

I also installed a RCD510 DAB but will soon swap out for an RNS510 when I find a suitable replacement.

And fitted some new switches for the centre console for a little bit of fun..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_3841_zps78eb7bf2.jpg&hash=52b8cca686c3817ede27ef8c49fab2259248eaff)

Future plans are to lower her a little and possible remap (r-tech of course) R32 brake swap and sort the sound system out..

View/comments welcome..

Love a pirelli's that's why I have one.

Do the door warning lights require any wiring or just coding?
Title: Re: My Pirelli

plug n play for the door lights..power on port 18 and ground on 19 (free on mine) or 21 on my door wiring (thanks to Eddie for the info) and coding to activate.

Plenty of info on this site about it, hardest part getting the door cards off...

That's a real nice Pirelli, I'm really liking those. I think I may just have to look at my finances at latter part of the year.

I've been a tad slow with updates on what I have been doing to the Pirelli of late, what with a promotion at work and getting to grips with my new role I have been fairly busy.

Anyway back to the Golf, I always loved the Pirelli but was always and little gutted by the amount of toys it had or lack of as the case maybe. So I am always looking on line for ideas and things to help improve and deal with this issue..

So first thing was swap out the RCD for an RNS..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4249_zpsho0dkmra.jpg&hash=a632fbe01afdecfee5bb77f42b1496649d910dd0)

Then Eddie come over and coded it all up and fitted the MDI in the armrest along with the overhead mic to go with my blue tooth module under the seat!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4250_zpswvyy1w76.jpg&hash=ac9a8087de316fb9823d3df436c344a75334fcb7)

And one of the biggest frustrations was that my Pirelli never had a multi function wheel.... and as most of you are aware MF wheels for a Pirelli dont come up for sale very often, so I bagged myself a scirocco 2009 wheel and had it retrimmed to match the out going yellow stitched wheel..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4248_zpsrevjt56z.jpg&hash=a785690e4fe6195f2d1d2f76ef2d77f1bc1b1e8e)

I think that the wheel turned out fanatastic and even Eddie agreed (while he was fitting it) and the feel of new leather and smell got my going so I then sent off the gaitor to be redone in the matching leather.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4247_zpsovh8gkew.jpg&hash=b55708d1df13ddc49afc684331a47eb8873c7dec)
So with the interior just about perfect (in my eyes) my attention turned to the outside, and having had xenon lamps on my old Honda S2000, I really wanted them fitted to the Golf, but being a bit fussy I need it to be all genuine kit with auto leveling and with washers etc. So I managed to grab the bargain of the century and got a pair of genuine Xenon lamps with bulbs, ballasts and ingitors for £150!!
Once again Eddie come over and helped code them while I fitted the units and then come back later that month to help me wire in the auto leveling.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4251_zpsihlndsuz.jpg&hash=23bc3a40803674f2c5c827c2e5feafa015ed4a8a)

I'm currently trying to source the headlight washer kit, so if anybody reading this has any bits that will help do please drop me a message..

So a BIG thanks has to go to Eddie for all his time and knowledge helping me with the car, I really would have been stuck without him :happy2:

And just to finish of the interior mods, while we were busy pulling all the cables in for the auto leveling and bi-xenons Eddie coded me a highline conveniance control unit so I can play around with my settings, and coded in my cornering fogs.

An area that I thought needed to be addressed from an early stage of ownership was the lack of braking power, the brakes were always in great condition but I felt that they lack bite and power so I sourced a full front setup from an Audi TTS, had a little play with some Pirelli decals and on they went..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd100%2FGixerben%2FIMG_4253_zpsnuodvhtv.jpg&hash=460a5f44909d1c5f70a5d80286e1a81137dae2d0)
And what an improvement they are, and I have an nice black set of S3 rears sitting in my office waiting to be popped on the rear to complete the setup..

I really pleased with the car and how it has come on over the last few months, pipeline work is as stated before headlight washers, power folding mirrors and possibly and reverse camera badge, once my bank account recovers..

Thanks for reading guys and thanks again to Eddie

Why did you fit a different steering wheel? You just pop off the old blank plates and put the new ones with the buttons in. The buttons are the same on all post 2007 MK5 Golfs.

If only it was that easy......You can do it with a DSG wheel but not a manual wheel.

Yes you just had to change the steering wheel control module and buy a MFSW loom I believe?

Either way, car looks nice mate :happy2:

Scirocco wheels came in two forms, the MK5 shape and later (2010 onwards I think) in the MK6 shape. They went through some odd facelifts, with red clusters, then white clusters, MK5 climate control then MK6.

That's it basically, the 1st Sciroccos had their interior based on the later mk5s, then they received an update and the interior started being based on the mk6s interior.

Mk5 based Scirocco (2009-2010):

Mk6 based Scirocco:

Just to confuse matters further, I think that is the newest scirocco, Shoduchi. It has the MK7 climate control. Yet I think it is still based on the A5 chassis and not the MQB?

I've been looking at sciroccos lately and want one with the MK6 wheel, instrument panel and climate control. But for the price I'm looking at, some have the wheel and not the climate or they have the red dash.

The Scirocco's chassis remained the same, yes, but the interior was updated to the mk7's interior in the latest update (with changes in the exterior as well).

Mk7 based interior (2015-):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpreview.netcarshow.com%2FVolkswagen-Scirocco-2015-1600-19.jpg&hash=474296661968a3c35c00dbfb6bbe77586f11a0e1)

The steering wheel is a good hallmark, I think.

Like the latest mk6 Golfs, the Scirocco also received the mk7 climatronic panel before having the major restyle to the mk7 based interior.

So, a few more little updates for the Pirelli..
As stated earlier , after fitting the xenons and auto leveling I was on the look out for headlight washers to keep it as close to factory as possible, Ed contacted me and thanks to @golfman (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=351) I purchase some of the kit to complete the retro fit  :happy2:

It was a rattle can paint job on the covers which need a little bit of flatting back to bring it up to standard but looks OK from a distance.
I have also changed the grille strip to yellow but the jury's out and may go back to factory red?

I think it's subtle enough. But feel free to bang a few more pics up! I suppose if you end up deciding you don't like it it's not tough to change back to red.

It's tricky with the front end - making it stand out from a standard car without making it look obviously modded and OTT. I'm going to do all 4 grilles in gloss black at some point, maybe with a smooth grille and slightly smaller plate sitting more flush, just to see if it tidies things up a bit. Xenons are definitely a good look too!

Agreed. Xenon's change the front end in a big way, The grille mod has been done with tape so is a quick fix to return to standard.
didn't want to paint it and regret it..

Xenons are definitely on my list. I think my car actually had some fitted at some point in its life, as it's got the washers in the bumper. Someone obviously harvested them before they sold up!

That's the one. RE keeping it clean, there's nothing worse than putting in all that hard work and it then being dirty again within hours! Black looks great when clean but I can only imagine how painful it must be to live with

My car is just as bad 90% of the time. Where I work they dig out the cliff at the back of the industrial estate so it blows over everyday and then when in rains it makes it 10 times worse. I've been there 4 years now and used to clean it every weekend but it's lucky to have a decent clean once a month cos as soon as I clean it on the weekend it's ruined Monday morning.

it is becoming a issue, all the cars on the street my end are covered, and the contractor doing the work is going to compensate people effected with vouchers for the local car "hand wash" centre... :scared:

They will probably do more damage than the work men.

Love the calipers, just had my R32 brakes back from BiggRed, hope to get them fitted on the weekend.
My calipers are yellow with a black dust shield with the yellow Pirelli logo the same as yours, albeit a bit smaller.
Hoping the yellow will look good and match the other yellow hints throughout the car  :happy2:

I'll post some photos once the job has been completed.

Gorgeous mate!!

I love the yellow lipstick. I think it totally ties in with the Pirelli theme. Between the fogs and the decals on the brakes (and obviously the interior stitching) I think it really works :happy2:

Love your approach to modifying the car. I would love to do all the VW based upgrades as you have! I'd say it's cost you a good bit to get this far?

Who trimmed your wheel? It looks a top class job?
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks guys, I must say I'm pleased with how the brakes not only look but work, massive improvement over standard.
As for cost, yeah it's not one of the cheapest hobbies around, and as stated on another thread on here best not to tally up..

I must say tho its worth being patient on eBay, I have picked up some real bargains, MDI set-up for my missus EOS (see other thread) including the loom for £20! plus loads more for my Pirelli, it all pays off.

As for the wheel it was re-trimmed by www.royalsteeringwheels.com and what a fantastic job he did too.

The workmanship and leather is great and I think even @Eddie-NL (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2345) would agree  :happy2:

Definitely best not to tally up

Will keep eBay in mind. I usually only look on the forum. Need to spread my horizons :ashamed:

Cheers for the link to your trimmer. Some job they did :happy2:

So, its been a while since I have updated progress with the Pirelli, its still with me and running well..
I took the decision to have her remapped in the summer and Nikki at R-tech worked worked his magic to transform the cars performance from a healthy 240BHP to a very reasonable 300BHP with 340 LBFT of torque, I have informed by Nikki that it would have made more horses if it wasn't for being one of the hottest days of 2018!!

I'm very happy with the outcome and while 300BHP on this forum is main stream these days its a joy to drive and goes like stink.. would love to pursue more but noisy intakes and costs involved feel at my age it my stop here

Styling wise inside and out I have added some Pirelli badges to the standard mats to add the the Pirelli theme..
and also fitted some carbon fibre mirrors.

And with the help of Ed, we installed a MK6 reverse camera badge, great addition and being a fiddler wanted to match the newer badge on the back so fitted a Tiguan rear badge to the front to bring it a bit more and match the back..
And whilst updating the media side of things, I added a newer RNS with DAB to allow track titles and wheel control over the iPhone, along with a Polo DAB aerial to gain access to all those DAB channels.
Also added a Scirocco interior mirror, great improvement over the huge standard MK5 item. oh and just for a giggle fitted some replacement Pirelli door warning lights, a bit marmite but I like them for now!

The handling is next thing to deal with, the remap has showed holes in the handling department, a Superpro anti lift kit has been fitted and this has worked wonders, I have also fitted a Superpro insert but I may remove due to the increase in cabin vibration, whilst only slight it may tire and be removed, thoughts options?

have pictures but they won't load up, server not responding.. any ideas?

Just read this whole thread having not seen it before

Your car looks great and good to see it being so well looked after

I sold mine last Friday to my sisters boyfriend who also intends to look after it. They really are a nice bit of kit

I softened the blow of selling mine by replacing it with a year old Cayman S

They do go well with 300 bhp though

Sadly not, it was actually off a Touareg 2010 model 7P6853630AULM, I just looked for one that the same size as the front one.
I then removed the backing off the new one and bonded it to the original MK5 mounting. Not a huge task but not a straight swap.

It looks ok, it just has a very slight gap between the badge and grille, but I'm happy with the outcome and I'm fussy as!!

Installed some rear ambient lighting, kept the kids amused for 5 mins.. I used a Audi B7 led module I had previously fitted in a B7 A4 Quattro I used to own..
I like the fact the LED are sunk into the housing so can't be seen during driving etc.

with inners modded..just need to code the centres out of the outers and were good to go..

And a cheeky side shot, sporting her genuine open fog grilles, smoked sequential mirror indicators in full carbon mirror caps

Its been an expensive start to the year for her, I hardly drive it and after the remap the DMF gave up so a Helix kit has been fitted and then the thermostat wasn't doing its job, so both senders and the stat replaced and all is good in the world. fingers crossed!

I removed the gearbox Superpro insert, as the trade off in comfort outweighed the improvement IMHO.

Next up is probably going to be suspension, oh and I'm on the look out for some under seat draws if anybody has some?

Good buy mate. Still miss my Pirelli.

210KW ATW is possible with fuel pump and downpipe.

Mine had 186KW ATW with just an APR tune and APR Intake.

Managed to source some under seat draws, they maybe small but they come in very handy for the wallet, phone and Oakley's as I find storage a little short in the Golf..

A nice easy mod to install, although prices have gone up from the dealer, all in it came to around £180, so eBay search commenced and saved myself a good deal of money.
Just used the dealer for rivets and the brackets.
