So.. some more progress.. Maintenance first i brought some new Audi R8 red coil packs and some NGK iridium sparks plugs a week and half ago so i thought it was about time i got them fitted ...looks like just in time a know the sparks plugs were replaced by the previous owner in Jan 18 but one of the coil packs broke off and was still attached to the plug requiring long nose pliers to save the day.

Last of all was a black Friday Deal from EuroWagens which i could not refuse a brand new set of R32 rear light and we all know they are so much better than the standard gti ones ..I've been looking for a set of these from day one of getting another golf but these lights seem to hold crazy money on ebay second hand so thank-you Eurowagens for that cracking deal.
R32 lights have arrived

Can you explain what the for light mod is please
yeah sure where your fog light is... Their is usually a red disc for the light to shine through i have removed that and replaced it with my spare reverse light disc from my old lights so both sides of the lights are the same the only other thing to do is get a red bulb for the fog light....... One of the pictures shows the removal of the discs ....hope this helps
-
Thanks for that. I have those same rear lights so may give that a go.
How much hassle was the cherry hazard switch to do? The original one does look dated I think.

Not hard at all a 10 min job ..all you need to do:
1:Remove the vent at the top
2:remove the inner plastic tray
3: remove x2 T20 screws
4: ease up the top cover
5: unplug and remove the hazard switch by pushing x2 taps together and pull out from behind.
Job done!

So this happened today ....Decided to get the exhaust tips sorted. When i brought the car the previous owner had a custom cat-back exhaust made by Leadfoot racing . The exhaust is great a nicely made 3 inch but my only dislike was the exhaust tip's it had as they were massive they were so big they melted part of the lower valance and not only that they stuck out a mile too.
So to that end i have had the tailpipe replaced with something almost stock looking which is great i might even put some Audi A4 tips on it later after the edition 30 lower valance is fitted in the new year.

So this happened today ...decided to fit my ebay purchase. When i brought the car the previous owner had fitted a Ramair oversized intake to the car which is good ..but just not what i want for this car anyway been on the hunt on ebay for a standard airbox and managed to find a good one.

I must say i'm really happy with having the standard airbox back on the car but i do like the idea of having the Carbonio carbon intake duct might put that on my wish list.

How noisy was the ram air set up?
-
How noisy was the ram air set up?
Difficult to explain this one but its a lot louder than stock lots of intake noise from 2k RPM ..on a plus point it does feel more responsive. i had a revo intake on my last mk5 and this is louder than that.
lots on videos on youtube to get a better impression................................

update time this time in the shape of a new rear caliper as the old one was completely goosed ..when i brought the car the rear caliper had come up as an advisory on the mot as sticking ...To that end i thought i'd remove the wheel and have a look at it since i have not removed the wheels since buying the car.. OMG the wheel nuts were so rusty that they broke my wheel brace and after looking at the caliper which was in a sorry state and had no red Paint on it ..Anyway replaced the rear caliper and fitted new pads to both sides of the car the pads came with new shims and bolts which was great.
After that i inspected the front brake calipers and all good .. But all the calipers need repainting badly but that will be a job when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Also decided to replace the gear knob the old one was very worn so found this to replace it with it came from a 2014 Audi A3 S Line i really like the Audi stuff and like the perforated leather goes well with the perforated leather on the steering wheel also the gear gaiter is a better quality leather than the one you get on the mk5.

Time for another update.... This time in the shape of some more interior bits from day one of owning the car i have never liked the the exposed cup holders and the open lidless storage (compartment) so decided to get that replaced with the bushed steel storage compartment looks so much better ive been told they were on the very first Mk5 gti's but then they stopped putting them in due to cost.
Second job was to replace the open cup holders and replace with the much better sliding cup holder..what a difference.......
Started with this little lot.....................

Next on the list was the front grill ...once removed i found out that it's not a genuine item ..but a good quality after market part the only things letting it down was the red stripe that had turned more orange and the number plate holder was broken in 2 places ...my plan was take a chance buy a grill off ebay and swap the parts i needed over...also had to buy a genuine GTI badge as that's a must.

I agree, they suit the car lovely! I often thought about buying a set for spares, and if I fancied a change now and then lol

Are they are benefits to running those open fog light grills? Cooling the brakes or the engine?

They allow more cold air in......but more importantly they look so much better vw should have done this from the start

So this has happened ....decided to remove my side skirts for painting and in the process remove the 13 years of dirt behind them . To be fair they came off quite easy its just the glue from the tape thats the pain and takes time apart from that its straight forward...

Project looks great, I’ve just got myself a GTi and am going down a similar route.
My headlights look like your passenger one (that’s if I’m being generous).
What paper and compound did you use?
I’m thinking of having a go at mine after seeing the improvement you had with yours!
Need to get myself a new genuine grill and surround too as my grills have gone a bit milky looking.
Great looking car!

Hi OllieL sorry about the late reply .....as for the headlights
Try as use a higher grade wet and dry sandpaper as possible that way when you have removed the cloudiness from the headlight and come to use cutting compound to remove the small scratches from the headlight what the wet and dry leaves behind. It will be an easier job for you.
wet/day sandpaper 3000 grit to remove cloudiness from the headlights
4000 grit for fine smoothing of the headlights
use a cutting compound to polish till crystal clear,
Hope this helps................

looks wicked, and so does the bumper... how much you give for the spray job? have you been quoted on the rear bumper too? I want to get the rear valance too coz I reversed over a sleeper thing once and it had huge studs that fixed it to the ground, didn't know and pulled forward.. luckily slowly so I heard it pull, it ripped the mounting eye off the valance on the inside where it bolts onto the car and stretched the plastic into a point.. looks crap and screwed for weeks about it! but give me more of a reason to get an edition 30 rear valance ;-P

The body-shop gave me a good price £300 for the side skirts and the rear valence to be painted ...which i thought was really good considering the work so will drop that of next week for paint and should get it back in a couple of days..

Another update .. I have now fitted my Edition 30 rear valance the guys at the body-shop did an awesome job as always and looks so much better than the black plastic one it came with so really happy with that......

Another update ......This time in the shape of a WG MOTORPARTS short shift linkage. The item came really quick on a next day delivery. Which was great . As for the shift linkage itself I was really impressed at the build quality please bear in mind it’s half the price of a forge/Ecs/APR short shift and does exactly the same job and fully adjustable.
This time I decided not to remove the battery for fitting and you don’t have to. The jobs simple and only took 10 mins to fit ..but what a massive improvement with a 40% reduction in throw.

Another update .....This time some new headlights to freshen up the front end ...decided to go with some Depo headlights as they are tried and tested and one of the best aftermarket headlight brands going. And i was not disappointed the headlight came well packaged and with instructions not that you need them..The great thing about the Depo's as well as the build quality is the side lights go into the lower indicator section which is really nice ..I have put my osram night breakers in for now but i will be installing a 5000K hid kit soon and will also be replacing the high beams. I did put new led side lights in tho which look great . i hope to replace the front fog lights too to the projector type which will tie in nicely with the headlights.....

Looks great with the new headlights fitted!
I have the same ones waiting for me to fit on Friday.
I also have some LED H7 bulbs to fit, which you may want to consider? I was impressed with the ones I've seen fitted on youtube channels etc.
I can let you know what I think when I get mine fitted this week :happy2:

I fitted my headlights and LED bulbs (Can give you details, but not sure what the forum rules are?)
Only been fitted for a few hours, but I’m very impressed with them and the power/ intensity of light. Easily as good as HIDs - and they were just plug and play with the Depos.
I would 100% recommend.
I also passed my MOT this afternoon with them fitted in the projectors, so shouldn’t have any worries on that front.

Dean
Here is a link to the ones I fitted today
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123240620374
They were cheaper than the osram nightbreakers I used in my old lights!
I’m using depos same as you.
They flicker when you first turn the ignition on, which I think is when the canbus does a mini diagnostic on the car.
Had no errors and they are amazing in the dark (just went for a quick drive to try them out).

another update ...so first up is the new projector style fog lights this was a must for me to tie in with the Depo headlights i have just brought and to be fair i needed them one old ones were totally shot..Another great thing is these are Chinese copies so cost peanuts compared to Original projector fog lights ..Fitment was great and also came with new bulbs which was a bonus . But i have already decided i will replace with something else later on.

Now this next mod was something i was not sure about getting at first and talked myself out of getting a couple of times but going by the positive feedback from quite a few people i decided to get some dynamic mirror indicators and why not the old ones were faded and full of dead fly's so thought i needed an upgrade . First of all these are awesome the light output is 100% better than oem so much more modern.

Good decent upgrades that make the car look a little more fresh…
Also replaced my left headlight to a DEPO - however my car has original Xenon lights, and I must say that the DEPO leveling motor looks to be a more "wiggily" than the genuine one when car is holding in iddle. But will leave this be for now, since I will enjoy that I finally has to clear headlight lenses hehe..
Also not to shoot down the copy lens fog lights - but been there and done that, they will corrode in the back very fast compared to genuine ones.
You can buy genuine ones with H8/H11 socket and DE lenses if you take the partnumber from a Jetta. They will fit Mk5 GTI bumper perfect, I have this to my car.

Last of all i picked a replica Votex front splitter a couple of weeks ago i really wanted a edition 30 one but i was not going to pay £300 for a new one its not the first time i have had a replica splitter i had an edition 30 one on my previous golf and for £130 i can't complain. I do prefer this one to an edition 30 one. Also decided i was going to try spray it myself i don't usually spray big items like this but i thought i'd give it a go and if i missed it up i would give it to a professional to sort out ..But to be fair i came out really well considering it came out of a couple of aerosol tins of paint...
