Title: Steve D's Shadow Blue DSG
Post by: spwd on December 03, 2016, 11:29:09 pm
Finally got the car after some sweating and worrying about the guy buying my ST off me but I'm loving it and so pleased I asked them to switch the wheels off a 2011 golf they had, looks way way better and it's made me question if it actually needs lowering.

Few surprises getting it home, firstly I didn't realise it had full heated seats which are lovely and I would have missed having had them on my ST and 645ci, and when I got it home i found out it's got parking sensors which are always helpful and I also put it into S which was interesting.

It's a lovely colour and my first blue car even though it's my favourite colour
Also it's nice to have the option of the sunroof.

The leather is in great condition and the whole car looks better in the flesh, it's got 70k on with fsh and had a cam belt at 51k and tensioning roller at the same time apparently (what's one of those?), there's a few scuffs on the wheels but they're on the edge so not too noticeable.
The headlights are a bit misty(can you polish this out) and I need a new pair of door handles or whatever you call them.

I'll get some better pics soon but I'll post a couple.

Steve.

No bud it's photoshopped by a friend , I'm trying to pick a colour, the one above I think needs to be a bit darker and this colour needs to be a bit duller I think

I want something like these colours,

Got some daylight pics lol, decided it doesn't need lowering for now so will concentrate on basics like the cam follower and dv and performance, picked this intake up today  and got the cherry red hazard switch too (what do I need to take off to fit it)?
I need a new dsg surround or possibly wrap it , what do you think?
Also my headlights need sorting, if you check the pics out will it all polish out or is some inside?
Do I need bolts to fit the intake or are they already there?

Also need some damn mats!

I'm going to go with this colour for my wheels, looks fantastic!

Ordered some new GTI mats from vw today along with the dreaded banjo bolt, after they realised they'd been restocked, got some gti seat inserts from a nice man in China too :signLOL:

Hopefully get some mfsw buttons soon if I can find some.

Bit more info on my cam follower with the dreaded banjo bolt it wasn't too bad, managed to get in with a 3/8 drive triple square fixed socket and a knuckle joint adapter thingy but I found a ten mm ratchet spanner and that fit over the actual m8 triple square bit so tightened it up with that.

One thing I did notice is that you need to push the banjo bit up when trying to get the bolt in, I believe this is perhaps how people cross thread them occasionally.

The cam follower wasn't in terrible condition but it was up for replacement, so glad I've changed it now and the car seems better  but that's probably just in my head, there was a bit of creamy gunk in the pcv, is that something I should worry about ?

Might fit my Forge TwinTake tomorrow if I can be arsed.

Thanks to everyone for their help and info  :happy2:

Took a few pics of the twintake which I carbon wrapped the two intake parts to go with the rest and fitted my new number plate low down, think it looks loads better and that's the standard grille too with the holes covered up, top grille needs painting I think.

Looking really good . Nice update, how long did it take you to do the whole centre console ? Inspired me to get a move on with my interior mods now

Fekcking ages but I'm a perfectionist   :signLOL:, I tried a few bits over the air vent direction buttons and around the actual air vents  to decide how best to do it but got there in the end, doing the dash ends and the steering wheel insert now  :phew:

I can tell everything looks like its been dimension'd correctly. What other plans do you have for your car ?

Already done the dash ends and steering wheel badge and need to finish passenger side air vent, and trying to get the panel with the light unit out but struggling at the minute, and bought a carbon look ignition surround and fitted my DSG extensions, sooooo much easier with these on.

The car is in the garage tomorrow for a check up and pre-map service including plugs, oil, oil and fuel filters, coil packs, new dv and gfb dv+ pre-cat delete and resonator delete and fitting the VWR lowering springs, luckily ordered these before I found out my left front spring had snapped, should be fun when I pick it up tomorrow

Also looking to get an mfd2 soon :happy2:

Yes everything looks alot better with carbon for some reason  :signLOL: what stage map are you going for ? Your car will feel way smoother when you pick it up after, you won't recognise her

I would probably have done the carbon anyway but the Dsg surround was scratched so I thought I'd buy enough to cover the whole car just in case  :signLOL:

It's not booked in for the map yet, I'm just doing all his so I know it's good to go when I do book it in , probably called a stage 1 I guess or 1+?

Yeah I think stage 1 is just a map and stage 1 with the exhaust bits is a 1+

Looking good mate.
Also wrapped my centre console with 3M black brushed vinyl as I had to make a custom facia to fit my new climatronic panel

And I did use about a hour to do the top part at first try.. This time is with taking the piece out of the car and wrap. Wasn't satisfied with the wrap so did it over again.

Still isn't totally satisfied with the cuts along the vents - didn't had the time to take it all apart when I did it :D
Think I'll redo all the pieces when it's summer again so that the wrap will get a chance to sit before it's minus degrees in the night time hehe.

Yeah I took mine completely to bits and also managed to get the vinyl to sit in the dip where the dial is, looks better than trying to trim round the hole.
Hope you can see what I mean on this pic.

Yeah can see I really need to do this when it's the weather is better :)
Haven't wrapped the side vents yet, only the front centre console has been wrapped along with the grey plastic panels there's in the doors.

Let me know if and when you figure out to put some red light in the dash piece as in newer cars :D - Would really be this coolest upgrade of this interior hehe..

Red light in the dash, what's that then?

Got the car back and my god, what a difference, mechanic said the dv wasn't split but deformed but now I've got the dv+ on, pre-cat delete and res delete and service it sounds nice and goes like it's a new car, unbelievable!

Not got any pics of it lowered yet though.

The only thing that it was missing on my criteria was xenons, but 3dr DSG Shadow blue cars are rare so you got a good buy  :happy2: cheers John

Yeah it's got a good spec, not sure what else was available other than the lights.
Also having them switch the 17"wheels to the 18" wider bbs  ones made a big difference to me :happy2:
