Interesting article - I agree with it all save that I prefer to DSG (which I have)

The Top gear "Expert" is not really getting the Edition 30/Pirelli BYD engine (and vast power potential) thing tho, is he?

No perhaps not, but in fairness the article is about the standard GTI, which is what I have, well apart from stage 1 and turbo back sports exhaust!.  He does acknowledge that  the standard car will cope up top 350bhp  without too much drama!

Interesting read.  It's a properly good looking car in white, 3 door and Monzas.  I wouldn't describe the manual as "slick" lol, recalcitrant more apt I think.

On face value not many folk would get the ED30.  30hp more and a few cosmetic bits, but obviously we all know what potential hides beneath  :happy2:

Decent article.

Has anyone came across the door lock issues?

I do agree the MK5 GTI is my favourite car I've owned it's currently been alongside a C63 mapped and diff'd.. But still prefer the golf..

yes a good article , thanks for sharing that, agree with the comments above about edition 30/pirelli specs  though - could have mentioned the engine differences its surprising how many people do not know about these.not just about extra shiny bits. 33million plus sold .. should be ok for spares in the future then...

Me too - it's quite odd?
If I had a Mk 5 with that mileage on, I wouldn't be lending it to top gear, that's for sure!
Anyone know who's car this is?

I just assumed the pictures were "old stock" possibly from their magazine or something back when the mk5 was new.

It would be a shame if that gti has only been driven 1300 miles in ten years!!!

I think it's a VW heritage press fleet car or some such. I'm sure it's the same one that was used in a comparison test a little while back in Modern CLassics magazine.

It is correct mileage you can do an MOT history search.

So the man from TG actually drove it...now...then?

Wonder if they have a similar "museum standard" Eddy?

Enjoyed the article btw, thanks Oldy!
