Title: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: RBS on December 28, 2015, 01:10:37 am
Hi everybody

First of all I want to thank all the guys who made this fantastic page possible!! Respect!! :happy2:

As promised in the new member section:

Now it's time to the fun part

I've been collecting parts over the last 10 months or so thanks to the mods section here but I hadn't time to mount all the parts yet. Some of them still have to come from oversea & other european countries. Once all of it has come home I'll make this thread nice & ordenly! :innocent:

I'll post some pic's of the parts that I've received so far.
Hope you will all enjoy it.
Here we go  :jumpmove:

I made up my mind to see first which way I would go with the Ed 30. Since I had it in my garage, I started to search what was possible with that engine. Boy was I in for a treat!
Specialy with the BYD motor! I gave it a big thought what I would do. In the end I said : what the h... : let's go banana's! You only live once!
So now I hope get all the parts for the engine in January-february. Then start to build it up slowly :innocent:
Next would be the dyno & map. After that suspention & brakes! Now on the brake part, I'm still having a dillema : would I go for Porsche 6 pot or audi R8 8 pot?! I don't think the 8 pot would go under 18". I had the old 993 turbo calipers under the Rallye and they were fantastic!!
I've read a lot of good reviews here on the forum about the 6 pots!
So this is a little thinker but no rush

Really nice collection of parts you've got there. I hope you can get all with no delays.

As for the brakes, personally I wouldn't go for the R8 8 pot, you'd need to change your master cylinder for the RS3 to really take advantage of their power. TTRS or Brembo 6 pot are more than enough with R32/S3 rear brakes. It's just a matter of getting better pads for those calipers if more braking power is needed.

I'll be following your build thread. :drinking:

PS: I have a friend with R8 front calipers and they fit under some 18'' wheels.

Hi and thanks for the great advice :happy2:
I'll do my best to get it all done. It's just always the waiting for parts delivery which is the most time consuming.
Have you got a picture of the R8 setup?

@ ShoDuchi: thanks for the link mate.  :happy2: I'll read it tonight.

I just received my wintermats  :jumpmove: It was a pain to find them over the last year!!
Here in Belgium they are absolete!!
Was looking on the web and found them but at silly prices :stupid:  A buddy of me told me there were some sets left in Holland. So I called the company  and they had them stil in stock! I jumped in my car in the afternoon and drove 200 km to collect  them. :signLOL:  I'll post some pics tonight.

Did these also come with the oval fitting? If not can the circle fittings be replaced with the oval ones from some old mats?

Hey dazza, what do you mean with oval fitting? I just checked them. The fronts have indeed 2 clips wich can be removed. But I have round clips in my car. Is there a difference in them??

Older cars like mine have an oval anchor like the pic below.
I've just sent them an email so fingers crossed.

You'll like the brakes. I also got the rears from the R32 using the TRW references. Much cheaper ordered from the ebay. :happy2:

R32 TRW references:
-Caliper carrier rear left -> TRW BDA690
-Caliper carrier rear right -> TRW BDA691
-Caliper rear left -> TRW BHS938
-Caliper rear right -> TRW BHS939

In the meanwhile I've made an appointment with a doctor :innocent: so step 1 is to clean the intake and 2nd to put it on the rollers. Curious what it'll give after 50.000km completely standard?!
That's about it for today

Your list of parts is really impressive display of parts.

Can you make a list of them? I'm not familiar with the name of some of them.

I had a really big pile of parts and I made 200 miles (320 km) to my mechanic's shop with the car almost completely full.

I remember well wanting to have all of them fitted as soon as possible to see their improvements. :driver:

Where did you get these grills from? I want to get a set but most of the cheaper options don't have the air duct/diffuser parts, for the brakes, mounted to the back of the grill.

What engine pan is that?

@ ShoDuchi : Ok mate will do that  I'll do it next weekend! Because it's a huge list!

@tommygti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5865) : The front air ducts are original VW parts. I'll post the nr's next weekend.
The second picture is not an oil pan but a Golf Bluemotion rear axle lining. It improves the aërodynamics of the car. It sits right behind the fuel tank.
There is an exelent review of it in ShoDuchi 's build thread! The original vw nr's are also mentioned.
Hope it helped  a bit

It was a great day today!!!! Went to do a intake clean
and a dyno run. Result : on 50.300 KM 237.4 PS! Completely standard, no tuning parts
mounted.
Now I can concentrate on doing an oil change, oilfilter, sparkplugs, cabinfilter, diverter valve + relocation, R8 coils, Forge catch can, new camfollower, DSG oilchange + filter.... Stuff like that! :happy2: Oh AND almost forget : CTS intake + heat shield for now!
Next up will be cambelt change and 034 motorsport engine mounts. First I still got to receive them from the states!  :sad1:

Mine needs a to do the diverter valve relocation too. My mechanic only realized that it can be easily done after I picked up my car. :\

You have to remove the intake manifold to really clean the intake.
Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: RBS on January 23, 2016, 12:23:03 pm
@ Shoduchi: Yes you're right mate !
But in my case, the engine was just driven in so it was not nessecery to do this. Only if cars have 100.000KM or more it is better to remove the intake completely. Then it is a more efficient cleaning.

Now back to bussines  :drinking:
Received a couple of new packages: :jumpmove:

Now only a couple of packages left! Finaly
Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS

Since your mechanic will have to take the front of your Ed. 30 to fit the IC, it's not that hard to do the intake cleaning. With the front out is much easier to replace the fuel pressure return valve too.

Look at mine with 57.000 km:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FShoduchi%2FOficina_Mario%2FUpgrade_49.jpg&hash=ecdd739018cce9e19f18a24c619413cde3e67426)

My mechanic and I weren't expecting that it was this bad with so few km... :sad1:

It made 243 BHP with all that gunk in the valve stems...

I'd also recommend replacing all thermostats (your car has 2) and temperature sensors (I think you have 2 as well) because they're not that expensive parts, are prone to malfunction and it's the labour to replace them that can be a PITA.

DSG   thermostat: 4E0121113
Engine thermostat: 06F121111H
Engine thermostat seal: 06B121119B
Temp sensor: 2x 06A919501A
Temp seal: 2x N90316802
Retention clip: 2x 32121142

Your build is awesome! :notworthy:

@Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) :  :surprised: WOW! That's a lot of debrie! For only 57.000KM!?!
Ok I'll check it again when I'm instaling the intercooler and hoses, the front is than out anyway!
And thanks again for the info about changing thermostats & sensors! :happy2: Will order them and replace them!

Oh and I forgot to put proof of the Dyno run! Here it is :

Those brake adaptors are new to me, I only saw bolts as adaptors for the Brembo 18Z calipers. I think my mechanic would prefer that kind of adaptor over the bolts that I got, although the bolts have been doing the job well so far.

The kind of bolt adaptors I got for the Brembo 18Z:

Do you have a link for the shop where you got yours?

@ Shoduchi : On First look they are the same! :happy2:
The only thing other than the nuts is the bracket which is threadet,  so this is a bit stiffer I guess?
I orderd these brackets with the German company called Epytec. Www.epytec.de
They have many brackets for different types of brakes for different cars.
Good company & excellent service!

There went the budget for this Month!!
I didn't realize that this mod would be so intense!! I've got to crack open the intire side & boot of my eddy!!  :surprised: Not to forget half of the dash
But the positive side is : I can finaly use my phone in the car! :jumping:

Always with great updates!

Those 3 small wires that come out of the camera after 3-4 years will break from the use. Try to make to reinforce them and to change the wires position to make them move less when the camera engages. It should at least prolong the time without giving trouble.

@ ShoDuchi :  :happy2: Thanks mate!! I'll do that!
Got no idea if the RNS is compatible with the cam :slap:?
Normally it should be but I think  an update for the RNS is needed!
But the instal is for a later moment.
Next to do will be the THS intercooler with CTS piping & all the sensors (on your recommondation  :happy2:) And finaly the BCS exhaust will be mounted.
Then hopefully in july the complete suspension & brakes.
Still a long way to go....

It's about time I posted some updates here

Been very bussy in my garage, inspected and changed the camfollower after 55.000km.
Had a little bit of ware but nothing special. Put in a new one for peace of mind.
Next up were the innerline protection guards at the front.
Took them out and found a lot of dirt and leaves hiding in there!!! :surprised: :surprised: So cleaned them out too.
Then thought, why not put the tyrrolsport brake bracket support in too. Took the induction kit and battery out. Cut a piece of the battery tray out to insert the bracket. It's a well designed piece of kit which prevents movement of the master brake cylinder.
By the time everything was almost done I managed to drop a torxbit right in front of the engine bay
Looked with a lamp into the compartement but couldn't find it!!!
That ment one thing:
Take off the complete front of my Eddy and finally put in the THS Intercooler along with the CTS pipes and hoses!!:signLOL:
That was a BIG job!!!
What a giant intercooler it is next to the original!!! Same with all the pipework!! They look gigantic comparing it with the stock oem charge pipes!! :surprised:
After the complete front was out I finally found the bit hiding next to the AC compessor!!  :jumping: :jumping:
But all this means nothing without pictures so here they are

Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: RBS on October 10, 2016, 06:16:48 pm
As promised a little review of the parts wich have been mounted on the Edition 30 so far.

First up is the THS intercooler with CTS piping:
What amazed me was the amount of torque & revs it had!! :surprised:
It pulls even harder than before! It's like it would go faster and harder!! Even my kiddo who was sitting next to me stared with big eyes!! :jumping:
I think the intercooler in combination with the bigger CTS piping does improve something!

Now for the TyrolSport master brake bracket:
What I felt was better & precize brake handling!  The pedal was not spongy!
Ofcourse After some couple of hard braking I felt the brakes fading! But in combo with the Brembo 6 pot calipers I think it's a good marriage!

That's for now

Next up will be the complete suspension.
Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: Shoduchi on October 10, 2016, 06:33:31 pm
The IC does make some difference. After fitting my THS replica IC from Darkside Developments, a Loba HPFP, had the inlet valves and injectors cleaned my Ed. 30 started making 270 CV with the stock map. Before with the BCS Powervalve it made 243 CV. Something restricts the stock map to making the same power as the S3. Get it tuned, you'll unleash a lot more power and torque.

I might get the TyrolSport bracket in the future. Now with my front pads almost at the end of their life my brake pedal takes a bit longer to become hard. The braking power is the same, just have a bit more brake pedal travel now.

Hehehe
I can't wait to get all the other bits mounted!!
On the other side I enjoy the progress on it!
I took some pics today of how it looks now before I finally get it a bit lower to the ground.
Still no document for H&R prings :sad1: Hopefully I'll get it this week.
When my foto's are uploaded I'll post them :happy2:

Really nice spec! I'm sure you can't wait for the remap!

You managed to fit the SuperPro adjustable ball joints with the Brembo 18Z without them rubbing the discs on hard cornering?

But I haven't mounted all the parts yet :ashamed: still working hard and
almost no time to work further on my car!! Next weekend is also booked for friends & halloween  :signLOL:

Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: Shoduchi on October 27, 2016, 10:31:45 am
With the steering wheel straight the ball joints don't rub, it's just when you turn the steering wheel 90-120º at higher speeds. I noticed it doing small roundabouts at +50 km/h. It's also more noticeable with the windows open.

After a lot of trying I ended up removing them and returned to stock ball joints. Consider that before cutting the outer part of your SuperPro ball joints to try to make them not rub... :sad1:

I've been  these last couple of weeks about :
Instaling RS4 injectors and an Integrated Engineering intake manifold
Is there somebody who has this mounted?

My current setup but exhaust not mounted yet :

BCS 3" Powervalve
THS Intercooler with CTS Turbo piping
Loba hpfp
CTS air intake

I think with those mods 300+ bhp is possible after a dyno.
Now I'm considering of buying the intake manifold and injectors. Is this a plus or not necessary.
Some thoughts of you guys :happy2:
Thanks

Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: Shoduchi on December 01, 2016, 10:35:48 pm
Don't get the IE intake manifold or the RS4 injectors. You'd only need the RS4 injectors for +400 BHP.

With your current setup and 99 RON petrol you can easily get +350 BHP.

Hi buddy

Yes, completely. With WMI you can get 400 BHP with your K04 turbo and injectors. If your LPFP doesn't pump enough fuel you might need to upgrade it but that's it. Don't need to spend so much money on the IE intake manifold.

It's pretty but from what I've read on Facebook it doesn't flow properly. Just works well with IE remaps. Niki Gower from R-Tech had a car with one fitted and tested it. It needed some interior adjustments to improve air flow, so not that good for the price. If you want a bigger intake manifold you can consider one from RPC Motorsport: https://www.facebook.com/rpcmotorsport/posts/894297794033941 (https://www.facebook.com/rpcmotorsport/posts/894297794033941).

This is the kind of info that I needed! I coulden't find anything about it!
Only a couple of youtube vids and the info on IE's site.  Now I know! :happy2:
Also thanks for the info about RPC Motorsport  :notworthy:
It looks like there is a lot to improve on the intake. So no IE, HPA or other intakes for now.
Found RS4 injectors in the states and will keep them for now. I won't mount them yet.
I'll go for the upgrade with the parts I got and let the intake for now.
Title: Re: Edition 30 powered by RBS
Post by: Shoduchi on December 03, 2016, 09:44:03 am
You'd benefit more of the intake manifold and RS4 injectors if you were aiming for +400 BHP and fitting a bigger turbo or a K04 hybrid at least. I wouldn't go higher than 420 BHP with the stock internals. If you say what is the power that you're looking for, we can try to help you with the parts needed.

That's the thing! I only wanted a small gain on power! 300bhp was the target :drinking:
I think with the parts I've bought I'm well over my target!
But that's the problem!! Once I started I couldn't stop or help myself :rolleye:
I was out off vw's the last 10 years. Once I bought the ED30, the virus came back!! :jumping:
It is such a great car! And a lot of potential to improve on the engine! I'm not saying it's under powered
but you can play with it like Lego  :signLOL: This is why I love it so much and I think we all do here :drinking:
This is just the engine and suspension which I started on, the interior is also to be modified. But only minor things like switches, led lamps and a touch of carbon.
This I why I love this forum! Changing idea's and receiving input of other enthousiasts! :congrats: :congrats:

thinking of doing the VIS motorsport oil sprocket conversion or the 1.8T oilpump conversion…. Not quit sure which Way I should go?!

Not done the conversion, but my findings into the 1.8t pump conversion is that it looks like a good solution to completely delete the balance shaft, with less weight, more oil capacity - some vibration - but the issue is blocking off of the oil gallery for one of the mount bolts is difficult to swallow - this then also requires conversion of the oil filter housing to 1.8t too...
But this kit solves the issue with an oil pressure relief valve + housing:

Not cheap, but fixes everything in one go

@LC5F (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49808)  Thanks for the info👍🏻

The oilpump I ordered has allready the oil presure relieve inside the oilpump and needs NO driling!! Ordered @ MIK Motoren in Germany I looked it up on their site and it looks quality stuff…
Now you’re right about oil & vibration!! More oil is better but vibration means more nock on the pistons also! So it’s a good idea to retune the engine after this setup.
Had a long and very informative conversation with a very nice chap who has a lot of engine nolidge👍🏻
I’ll see how it develops…

Anyway…. It’s good to be back “schraubing” on the vdub

@RBS (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11390)  - Thank you for the information on the kit from MIK Morten https://mikmotoren.de/products/olpumpe-update-ea113?_pos=12&_sid=f5cd350ff&_ss=r (https://mikmotoren.de/products/olpumpe-update-ea113?_pos=12&_sid=f5cd350ff&_ss=r)
First impression was very expensive, but after watching the you tube video despite having minimal German it seems to be worth the money.
The chain retains the existing TFSI pulley, split chain also means you don't have to remove the timing belt, reduced pulley on the pump changes the oil pressure and the stand off to avoid blocking the oil return is simple but genius!

I saw that video a while ago, and it makes a lot of sense.  The oil pressure gains over the stock unit are impressive.  I don't know how the EA113 even runs with the crappy amount of pressure it dishes out at low rpms.  Having said that, maybe it's not an engine that NEEDS lots of pressure?  Nissan GTR guys who fit uprated oil pumps end up flooding the cylinder head with too much oil.  Hope that isn't the case here.

I’ve ordered the kit a while ago… still waiting to receive it :sad1: hope to get it in the following weeks…
I’ll let you guys know more when I get it :happy2:
So far I know, nobody has mounted this kit?? The company MIK Motoren has mounted and sold hundreds of those kits mainly in Germany… Here in Belgium, nobody has it!?
Most kits are from Bartek but they need to be drilled & threded…
I guess I’ll be the mule  and give my thoughts about it :happy2:

I am looking forward to hearing about this kit getting installed.
Also, the tube your oil cap mounts on is able to be removed... to reveal a lower oil cap thread - this is mine ripped off:

Yes! You’re right! It’s actually not the enginebracket but the bolt from the timingbelt
Cover!! That little piece of s**t is hard to reach!! It’s on blind sight and feel to get a bit on to it!! Once it’s loose… it’s party :jumpmove: remove the cover first then
rise the engine completely up!!! And then at last whigle the bracket out… :jumpmove:

Maybe a tip : when putting it all back together… I used the old roller to tighten the belt and check timing. Then I removed it and marked the belt… whigled the bracket and cover back into place. Then I put the new roller on (tightend it to 25Nm).
Tightend the timingcover bolts (7 of them to 8Nm) and then the enginebracket. I think it was 3 x 45Nm for the bolts.
The rest was all simple 😁

It depends what your brake pedal feels like after you've installed them.  Some people fit the TT-RS master cylinder with brakes that big, which makes sense to me.

Hi everybody

It was time to get back in the garage…

I thought it would be a 3 - 4 hour job… boy was I WRONG!!

So next step was to change both themostats and temp sensors…
In the whole process I also changed the aircon compressor, DSG gearbox mount from 034 Motorsports (Density) and put in a new Varta battery.
The hole taking appart went fairly smooth until I came across the 5mm triple square which holds the coolant line that goes to the big themostat on the engine block  :slap  that was a real nightmare to get loose/off 😡 but in the end it surrenderd!
In the whole changing out proces I forgot to take some pics
In the end I got to change all of that stuff :jumpmove: BUT!!! It took a whopping 10 hours to do all that!!!
Also a wake up call to reality for me… I AM NOT 20 years anymore!!! My
Body is a wreck today😵
But anyway a couple of pics show the stuff I did…

Yeah - why on earth the decided to use those 5mm triple square bolts, they are really annoying.
I suppose they do get used in a few more places on the top end of the engine.

When I changed my thermostat it was something like a 7 hour slog in the rain - I can only dream of a subterranean workshop/lair like yours!
Despite studying the pelican parts guide, I also had to dremel a groove in one of mine after thinking it was a torq.
Can't believe how rust free everything is on yours too!

@LC5F (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49808) thanks man :happy2:
I can believe that working outside is even harder! :notworthy: respect to all!

Why everything is rust free ... well it stood still for nearly 2 years! Changed work and didn't had time to fit all the parts I collected...
Example : the exhaust, I bought that in 2016! And a lot of other parts...
I bought the Edition 30 in 2015  with 38.000 km and was all back into VW  Bought & collected lots of parts but never got to fit it!! A bit of it I mounted but lots of it was still waiting on the shelve to be put on...
End of 2017 it changed all, new work, new house (Croatia) and not more me time! So that's why the Edition 30 is (rust free)

It's all itching to work on the Ed 30  But I have to wait for parts again for the hpfp and some nuts for the downpipe.
Also got a new A/C pressure switch with o ring, will install it hopefully friday. Got some troubles with my A/C.
Bagus helped me out with it :happy2: Went to get the system recharged but my compressor would not engage / turn on :surprised:
So friday after instaling the new switch, it's take 2 for the A/C...
Also got a closer look on the pressure relieve valve under the intake manifold, to remove it for a RS4 one.
That's also going to be a pain to switch
The exhaust is next and then the oil pump. So still a long way to suffer  :rolleye:

Here’s what VCDS shows for the A/C. Everything is ok and
system should be recharged

Loving the work done!  :congrats:

You're replacing the whole oil pump? Any problems with it to need changing?

I want to replace the timing belt and timing chain this year, and install the balance shaft delete kit from VIS Motorsport.

@Shoduchi (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) : Hi buddy  Loooong time no hear! How'z life? And still enjoying your lovely Ed 30?
I'm finaly geting to install all the rest of the parts  :jumpmove: Hope to get it all done by the end of April... Then give it a little more jucy Hp! :happy2: Finaly!

As for the oil pump I searched more info about it and after a good chat with an engine "doctor" , he told me that it was not nessecery but it couldn't do any harm to install it. Especialy with the TFSI engine! The balance shafts are known to fail... My first option was also the VIS balance shaft delete sproket  (I bought one) but then I got in contact with MIK Motoren and they got a whole oil pump conversion kit without having to drill in the oil shaft and the pump is set to 6.8 bar.

The timingbelt change is not such a stress as long you follow the procedures, the only difficult/hard thing was the engine mount to the block removal and the little bolt from the timingcover which is behind that engine mount... all the other steps are quiet easy if you follow the instuction manual
As for the timing chain, I didn't change it. Put VCDS on it and all was safe :happy2: but I'll replace it in the future when it's needed.
Enough about me now! How are the trackdays?  Still enjoying it?

Hi buddy! :drinking:
Life's going ok, the pandemic hasn't helped doing everything we like. Still enjoying the Ed. 30 on weekends on mountain roads, mostly. I've sold the diesel Golf and bought a Skoda Octavia vRS mk3 2.0 TSI DSG estate for family duties and I've finished upgrading it recently. It's almost as fast as my Ed. 30 but much cheaper to run after fitting a LPG kit.
I haven't done any track days since late 2019. I plan to return this year after doing a big maintenance to the Eddy. My timing chain is still spot on but I'm going to replace it because the chain plastic guides get brittle due to age.

I hope to see your lovely Ed. 30 running sweet with more power soon. :driver:

Thanks :happy2: will do my best!

Now I’m having a dilema :
what size are the exhaust nuts which bolt on to the turbo?? Are they M8x1,25 or M10x1,25?
I got these N 102 861 08 I think they are M10?
After some research I think I need these N 911 308 01 (M8)??
I think my exhaust plans have been postponed… :sad1:

I think you need these for the turbo’s exhaust manifold: 5x N90894601. They’re M8.

Also this exhaust manifold gasket: 06F253039F.

I need the 4 from the turbo to the exhaust/cat direction. I think they are also M8?

For the downpipe you need 4x N10286108. They’re M10. You have the correct ones. You can also fit new studs: 4x N0445203.

We live in Betina on the island Murter, it’s the lowest island of the Kornati islands… and yes it’s a lovely place :happy2: I recharge my batteries over there even if I’m just for the weekend there…

Other than the antenna you should only need the same coding as any RNS-510 retrofit requires. You already have one, so it should be a straight swap and fitting the antenna.

  Thanks bro
Will dig into it a little deeper when we’re back home… Source a DAB antenna
and get it installed. The seller wants 400€ for it, is that a fair price?? He showed
me some functions and told me it has a V17 for the roadmaps & speed camera’s
(Wich I think is more important) :innocent:

Does this thing need a latest update?? If so where and how do I install that?? :fighting2:

The maps are up to date. The new version should be available in a few months, I think.

The firmware seems up to date as well.

:happy2: Thanks for the info mate ….

Friday evening we came back home after a nice week in Valencia :pomppomp:
Yesterday morning called the person who’s selling the RNS… and yes, he sold it the day before :fighting:  :fighting: Ooh well… better luck next time I guess  :slap:

Then I distressed myself and went into the garage… Tought a bit of what to do and
went on with it 😁
Gathered the complete BCS exhaust and went to work…

Checked the play on the shaft of the turbo… all well NO play :jumpmove:

After taking out the old exhaust ( which came out fairly easy!) with the help of WD40 :happy2: all the nuts & bolts surrenderd !!

You'd have to upload it to Youtube, for example, and then link your video here using the forum Youtube link feature: ["youtube"][/"youtube"]. You just paste the last part of the Youtube video link between those brackets.

The oil pump can be the last bit, since you have to change the oil while doing it.

Thanks guys  and like Shoduchi says… it “protects” the resonator😁
But I don’t think it stiffens the body because it’s only bolted with 8 nuts to the chassis. It’s more for the eye when the car is on the ramp
I did figure out this weekend how to put a vid on Ytbe… I think 😅 so it’ll be on here soon
For the rest it was actually a quit and relaxed Easter weekend with family :drinking: cracked some boiled eggs,😁🎊🎉 enjoying the nice weather and did also a couple of kms with the Eddy😍 REALY enjoyed the ride & sound of the BCS😍
I hope to put the Loba and cam follower with the pressure return valve this week…
Pic’s will also follow

Keep an eye on the cam follower with the Loba pump.  The stiff spring wears the DLC coating down faster than a standard pump does!

And yes… I drove all the way back from Madrid to Antwerp.
A 1600 km trip😁 with no hik ups!! All went smooth & easy❤️
Just turn the ignition on and drive😍👍🏻 Waisted a 30€ flight ticket back to Belgium! With NO regrets :pomppomp: :pomppomp:
The 20 Years was purchased by an ealderly dame in 1996 in the Madrid VW garage.
Was always maintained and serviced there till 2017!!! The last 5 years She took it to an local garage shop which did an excellent job in maintaining the originality of the GTI!!!
I saw pictures and movies of the 20 Years which her grandson took and was sold!!
But when seeing it in real life… MY JAWS DROPPED!!!! 🤩🤩
This GTI 16V “20 Years” is like new!!! It had covered 89.400 km in it’s 26 Years and when I opened the door… the original VW smell came to me😍❤️
The interior is like new!! Only 1 minor thing: the rooflining is starting to get a bit loose… but I was thinking if this is all…
Then Alberto opened the boot, all the doors and it was immaculate!!😍
Piece the resistance was for last… the bonnet popped open and🙈
All of the bolts, connectors, leads… the whole enchilada looked like new!!!
I didn’t even argued over the asking price!!
Now the best bit comes…. Driving!!! The clutch, shifter, suspension and wheel ALL
felt like new!!!!😳😳😳😕❤️❤️❤️❤️
After explaining to Alberto and the family that I could not wait to take it to Belgium and then to Croatia… they agreed to let me drive the GTI back with the original numberplates and insurance until I get it all sorted in Croatia!!!❤️❤️❤️👍🏻
I’ve made friends for life in Madrid….🤩
Now some first pic’s and driving from Madrid to Antwerp😍

Wow that is mint  - I used to have a MK3 16v - ABF engine is good fun
A dry environment will suit those RX2 BBS wheels they love to corrode here in the UK.
I seem to recall the only issues I had with mine was idle control being problematic and the ABS sensors burning the solder in the ABS unit.

I’ve got other stuff on my mind now… preparing to go to Croatia 🇭🇷 on Friday 🤩

Interesting, the UK anniversary had standard GTI seats, but with a "GTI" fabric in the centre panel, yours are the uprated Recaro's - much better support, used in UK Colour concept cars, but leather
The usual anni fabric is:

Those Recaro seats look amazing   Not the red, grey and black chequer board ones, the others

@LC5F (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49808): you’re right about the fabric and the seats…
If I can remember the 8V had this “GTI” fabric in the standard sport seats and the 16V had the Recaro seats here in Europe… but correct me if I’m wrong😅
There is also a difference between countries… example Germany had the red striping all around the GTI where in Italy AND Spain only the front and rear bumper got the red striping… also interiorwise there are differences… the German version got standard all electric windows (front and rear) and back headrests, the only real options were sunroof and climatronic.
Now I know from mine that it was ordered and bought in Madrid and it didn’t come as standard with rear electric windows and back headrests (not that I mind)😁 and I also don’t have a sunroof and climatronic… just manual airconditioning (works just as fine) I had a comfortable ride to Croatia 🇭🇷 ❤️👍🏻
I’ll open a new topic about the GTI “20 Years” with the underside inspection also👍🏻
Afterall it’s a mk5 GTI forum 😇🙈

UK always seemed to be slightly different spec to the continent we missed out on a lot of specials, but to be fair we got a few of our own.

If you want to add the missing items-
The OEM pinstripe is regular stick on type, just stuck on-top of normal rub strip.

Rear headrests can be retrofitted, they do improve comfort for rear passengers - its been a while... seem to recall you get the head rests, the guides and seat internals with screws all from 9N polo -the UK cars commonly had back headrests. the internal metal frame of the Mk3 has the screw holes already pre-drilled - all you need is fabric from Gti front headrests and you have the entire kit.

My 16v used to be my daily, it happily did 76 miles each day commuting.
But it did end up like a roller skate on coilovers - just missing the Hella twin head lights here:

But first... whaaw what a nice Mk3 :happy2: I love the color!  was that blue  a standard color in the UK?  :happy2:
As for the parts for the 20 Years, they are on the way  Next weekend I'm getting some extra set of BBS RS 722 and get them refurbished in original color and polish :happy2: Maybe on the way back home I'll stop by a 20 Years shop / collector who has many other stuff for the GTI😉
Maybe I'll find a back seat with headrests too
I'll put some pic's on when I receive all the other parts too

Thanks, Yes - it is Fjord Blue LR5V
Be careful with the wheels - a lot of them are 6.5 inches wide off Mk4's and are wrongly sold as Anni ones, but genuine Anni ones are wider at 7 inches and not easy to find.

Now for an update:

I took my Ed30 to Croatia 🇭🇷 to swap it for the 20 Years… long story short…
I can’t register my 20 Years because of a stupid law here…🙄 so I have to take it back to Antwerp, register it there and have to wait 6 months before I can take it back to Croatia and then register it onto Croatian numberplates…😵‍💫🙄
It keeps me bussy😅
Now some road pic’s…

@LC5F (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49808) 😘❤️ Thanks buddy👍🏻

Had finally some time today to swap the hpfp to the Loba one and also install the RS4 fp regulator valve… and to my surprise the original one looked identical to the new one!?!🤔 Realy weird??!!??
Have you guys with your ED30 also this style of fp regulator valve mounted as standard?? Just realy curious 🧐 about it…
To my surprise it all went quite smoothly 😅 just took me 2 hours to swap the valve, the new hpfp and a new cam follower🤩😎 did a little test drive and check up afterwards… No fuel leaks detected  :jumpmove:
Didn’t take a lot of pic’s but you all get the idea…

After a loooong time I decided to go with the VIS setup…
I actually mounted the MIK motoren oil pump first a couple of months ago and tested it out for about 1000 km. Nothing to complain about only the engine in idleling was shaking a lot😒 when I drove it, everything was fine…
So I got thinking again and went for the VIS sprocket…
I sadly don’t have any pic’s from the MIK motoren setup!😩 my phone fell into the
oilbucket😫😭 NOT happy!! Result-> new phone🤓 It was a rollercoaster these last 4 months🤪 The engine sump went off 3 times!!! I had to put on a new crankchain because I cut off the old one for the MIK setup🤓 and a new timingbelt & co…
Luckely a good buddy let me use his shop with a 2 post lift to mount all of the above back👍🏻👍🏻❤️ We also refited my old balance shaft/oilpump setup back… Which was all cleaned the 1st time I took it off…
Now after a couple of months I went back into my cave and changed the balance shaft sprocket for the VIS one…
The engine in idle is not so shakey any more👍🏻 Much more relax, still a bit shakey bit not so much as before😍👍🏻
My plans for this summer were all different 😁😁 but I guess that’s life….😅
Pic’s are comming👍🏻

Last couple of months were very busy…
Mini was sold and bought myself an UP!…GTI😍❤️ Love the little nugget ❤️ Was preparing all stuff for the renewall of my mums appartement in Croatia…
My Edi also finally went on the rollers  :pomppomp::pomppomp: put a healthy 367 isch horses according to the Dyno😍
I REALY feel the difference now!!! I didn’t have time to test it well because I had to drive to Croatia the next day!!😅 I actually was a bit scared, the first kms slowly driving 120 isch km/h was on the Belgian highway…,till I came on the Autobahn…🫣😵‍💫🥶 the needle flew towards 270+ km/h and above 😅 I got sweaty hands!!! Like a beginner😅
LOOOOOVE IT NOW!!❤️ Having tested for 1600km+ and still my hart beats a bit faster behind the wheel 😅❤️
Next up are suspension & brakes!! The last one is REALLY necessary!😁
Edi is now waiting for his Croatian membership… if everything goes smoothly, by end of November everything Should be ok🤞🏻
Now for some evening driving shots…

Good to know! :drinking:
Mine is doing well.  :happy2: I've finally had some little issues fixed, a big maintenance and a few upgrades done. I've also done two track days this year.  I hadn't driven on track since 2019...

A lot of things are still to change on the Edition 30 😁
But now from last October hibernating on the Island till April… then it’s comming back to Belgium with me as a “Croat”👊🏻😁 & numberplates are waiting….
Then it’s finally going to be lowered, all chassis mods will be done & brakes with new wheels 👍🏻❤️
For now just a little drive on sunny roads 😍 and a nice night drive…
