Been on here some time with my mk5 GT TDI which had just clocked up 200k mls so I decided it was time to update the daily.
I was originally looking for a mk6 GTI 2dr with DSG which would of meant I had some money to modify it but I started looking at 6R's and the more I looked the more the GTI just didnt look mean enough.
My only requirements were that it was 3dr and had DSG and leather would have been nice.
So after spending time looking about and getting the missus to agree to up the budget a bit I missed one in my local VW dealer in Norwich which had the lot.
The next nearest was 3 hours away so I waited and this came up in a Kia dealer not to far away.

Its a 2010 standard and not the highest of specs but it has the required 3drs and DSG so I'm happy.
Mods/updates so far are:
Replace RNS510 with a RNS510DAB
VW bluetooth kit
EVOMS
Replaced the HPFP follower
I have a set of 19s to go on it but need to get them refurb'd first
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv251%2Fboraboy%2Fwheels_zpslzghidri.jpg&hash=687f96adb29594ab9993943654e5862607b8577a)
Next will be stage 1 and a downpipe or full turbo back exhaust
-
ooh very nice
-
Looks lovely!
Hope it serves you well
-
Get a HPFP before an exhaust, they make for better and smoother power delivery on these cars. I ran a HPFP on a stock map and the difference was noticeable.
-
Beautiful car mate!
You not a fan of the stock Talladega's though?

Its not that I dont like them but I would of preffered them in 19s then these wheels came up at £130 for the 4 (and they're straight) so I ripped his arm off.
I'll run them and see what I think, will keep the talladega's though

But exhaust noise!!!!

Finally got round to buying a pair of adapters to trial fit the 19s, could only get adapters with a 5x120 & 72mm center bore so had to turn them down to 65mm for the toureg wheels.
Fitted a 235/35/19 tyre to one wheel and fitted it today
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv251%2Fboraboy%2FIMAG0002_zpsmaseu7ai.jpg&hash=6cf196620a37ede75c0bcf04e794cfb9c72ff48c)

According to the internet a 9" rim doesnt fit a mk6 without body mods, these would be ok if I dont lower it and were to keep the tyre size fitted which gives a stretch.
Hey ho, they'll be for sale soon
Still, I did find that the lockers fitted were wrong and had a straight chamfer and not the domed head,
Luckely I had a set from an old car in the garage so I changed them

TBH you could run that wheel quite happily if you add a touch of camber (which would happen if you lowered it anyway).
That wouldn't rub.
Although on the front if may be a bit tighter..
-
Been a while since I updated this.
Decided against the wheels, sold them and gonna find some others
But heres a few pics from the weekend

Had to drive to Gatwick last week, and guess what, the misfire is back :(
I had ordered some R8 coil packs from AKS, so fitted them but that did not fix it.
After doing some more checking on the TFSI facebook page, I was told that a misfire doesnt always show as a fault code
I checked measuring blocks 15 and 16, live misfires and there it was on cylinder 1.
So here is how it looks now
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv251%2Fboraboy%2FIMG_2029_zpsgzxvfuh7.jpg&hash=406175d010019645b5102ae86eeb104c2355839a)
Although, I did think about selling it as a non runner whilst trying to undo this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv251%2Fboraboy%2FIMG_2028_zpsok9nudgg.jpg&hash=f434d45f01b1a10f8270b2b09429b9995b4113f3)
Bloody manifold support bracket
So, it looks like emerald (a local tuner) do injector cleaning and checking so I'll give em a call tomorrow
Does anyone know how the date codes read on the injectors?
Mine show as 09 10 15 which could be ddmmyy and therefore were changed last year or they read yymmdd which would put them inline with the build date of the car

Bit of fun today, fitted some Eibach springs
Was alot easier than I thought it was going to be, no seized bolts, the front struts came out without any problems.
Then once I'd realised there isnt much movement when you disconnect the rear strut and you only need to remove the lower arm bolt to get the spring out all was good.
started with an arch to wheel center of F-345mm R-360mm and ended up with 330mm front and rear
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv251%2Fboraboy%2FIMG_2047_zpsw2pcnzfk.jpg&hash=1517e107bf2351c22902d46886c8b9434aaa1829)

looks a lot better now its lowered
-
And added some new wheels into the mix.

Very very nice I like them :happy2:
-
That's a really nice drop for springs. Looks like a bit more poke with the new rims too?
Are you sticking with standard dampers?
-
What's rims are they?

Thanks.
Sticking with standard shocks for now, I've read they are the same eibach springs that VWR use and say can stay on stock shocks. If/when they fail I'll look to upgrade
-
What's rims are they?
They Rotiform blq reps, 500 of ebay but look to be half decent quality
-
Looks spot on. Low enough to 'look low' if you know what I mean, but I'd imagine not impractical.
I like the little splitter too.
Wonder if you can get one for an ed30 front..
-
I'm on H&R Springs and that looks lower than mine.
I'm 335mm centre to arch. (Just checked)
This looks way lower than that to be fair.
-
When I fitted then 2 weeks ago they measured 330 arch to centre, may have dropped a bit since
-
Looking good. Alloys really suit the car :happy2:
What's the quality of the wheels?
-
Lovely looking car :happy2:. If you're still thing about getting a down pipe id recommend the Relentless 3.5". They're £245 delivered and are a good quality item.

Thanks,
Will be looking for a downpipe but will want one with a sport cat (sas I know, but I cant be bothered with the MOT hassle

They do them with sports cats as well but I'm not sure on the price. They're easily the best VFM dp's on the market. That thing will fly at stage 2 :happy2:

Excellent, I'll take a look
-
Did you get the misfire sorted? I'm having similar issues, hoping an R8 coil pack will resolve it!
-
Been collecting part for while and picked up a downpipe today to go with the milltek, just need to fit now

How did you get on replacing the VWR Springs?

How did you get on replacing the VWR Springs?
Havent done it yet, was waiting to see how low your went before buying another set of VW racing springs.
I need to decide weather to go with them or H&R but I think the H&R will sit a bit lower

Pictures of mine can be found on my build thread, Mine is literally a -5/10mm drop over standard.

Yeah, saw them but would really like 20mm over standard, it currently dropped 30 but I think it looks a bit to low at the rear, may have to save for some coilovers
To be honest it rides ok at the moment now I've played with the adjusters on the shocks but you can tell its to soft compared to the standard springs

Appreciate what you are saying about the drop on my car but that is just how I wanted it, So easy to live with everyday but you get all of the benefits.
I know I keep harping on about your Springs but I really would be removing them ASAP, They are the wrong Spring for your car and adjusting the Shock Absorber's wont get around the fact you are running FWD Springs on a 4WD car and the Spring Weight Ratings are very different which is why you have got a 30MM Drop on a Spring that is only rated to give a 5/10MM drop!

Finally got some different springs, even though I dont agree with what you say, the rating for the springs on it are only a few KGs lower than standard and as they run lower ratings in the states then it isnt a problem, just sits lower (and dont forget they are progressive so get harder the more compressed).
And lets face it, your springs are very different to those designed for the original car ;) . Thes OEM springs are always a compromise to allow for different peoples tastes, you can go softer or harder depending on how you want it as long as you dont go to far.
got these to go now.

Couldn't really care less if you agree with me or not, I no longer own my 6R.
You fit what you want on your car :happy2:

That explains why it looked lower then! Wrong springs.
